Only a particular type of person can rock Elmo scrubs. To have Disney princess characters gummed onto their stethoscope. To have random colors of pee and goo stained onto your clothing. To get an IV taped onto an arm so invincibly. To mastering the art of diaper changing. To work with babies—to small children—to adolescents—to young adults, it takes a special dose of generosity and muscle to care for him or her when they’re sick. My magnitude and absolute desire to pursue slipping on Elmo scrubs, or in other words, becoming a pediatric nurse is because it’s a part of my character.
My passion in pursuing to be a nurse in pediatrics started when I was just 11 years old: my first babysitting job. That being said, through the years of caring for children and making some sort of profit through enhancing my sincerity, my aspiration has only grown. I remember having to stop in the mountains at one in the morning to put chains on the tires. He drove for a very long time through heavy rain and snow all because I begged him to be there for Jaylen’s birth. So finally walking into the hospital, following the little cranes, and repeating, “Ghostbusters!” in order to enter room 410 just to see an eight pound and thirteen-ounce newborn baby boy sleeping in his hospital crib was such a blessing. Being an older sister to such a tiny, innocent human being ignited my sole want for his good health and safety. I took helping my mother of now three, caring for Jaylen until I had to retire. Through this personal experience, I was able to help provide hands on care towards him. I knew his signal for hunger or sleep was crying and his facial impression when he needed diaper changes.
