Thanks to my lack of interest in reading, sitting down are reading a full story has become a difficult task. The stories that captivate my attention and hook me in have to be full of action, mythical creatures, and relatable characters. Rick Riordan’s book “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief” really hooked me in as there was a lot of description and he was able to bring Greek Mythology to the modern world. For example, Percy Jackson, the main character in the novel, goes on and adventure with his friends into the underworld to meet Hades, a Greek God. As I was reading I was able to picture his journey and the setting around him. Riordan also made sure that there were lessons to be learned in the adventures Percy Jackson was going through and he implemented these lessons by using symbolism. I ended up reading the whole book in a week. Not only did I read that whole book, but I continued to read the rest of the six-book series. In addition, I also enjoyed reading “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins because I like reading about the struggle and conflict the Katniss Everdeen, the main character, had to go through, and how she was able to solve said struggle. Katniss had to become an adult early in her life because she had to take care of her sister and she had to lead the people that lived in her district. In a way, “The Hunger Games” was kind of like a coming of age novel, which is another reason I enjoyed the book. I was able to relate to the basic
The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins delineates that there are times when people believe that all hope is lost but only those who are strong will persevere through their darkest moments. Suzanne Collins portrays the theme throughout the novel with the main protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, as she struggles to endure her daily life and the annual Hunger Games. Collins displays the prodigious amount of persistence of Katniss Everdeen and her comrade, Peeta Mellark, which allows them to survive throughout the Hunger Games.
Now if you have pre teens or teenagers. The diary of the wimpy kid By: Jeff Kinney is a great series for the more experienced young reader. As well as The Percy Jackson series By: Rick Riordon. I personally have read these books as well. They are very entertaining and fun to
The Hunger Games, a novel by Suzanne Collins, is the story of 16 years old, Katniss Everdeen, who fights to death for her district. The Hunger Games is an event hosted every year by the Capitol of Panem, where a randomly chosen boy and girl both need to represent each of the twelve districts that the capitol is composed of. When Katniss little sister, Prim, is chosen to be the representative for District twelve, Katniss volunteers to take her place and fight along her male counterpart, Peeta. The reason I choose this book for my book report is because Katniss is not your typical 16 year old girl. Not only is she her family’s provider but she’s also skillful, strong, rebellious, and unsentimental heroine. These are characteristics that society would mostly link to a 16 year old boy rather than a girl.
In 2008 Suzanne Collins published a book that took the world by storm with 23 million copies sold as of 2012. Why did the novel get so much attention? Was it a new story that people had never heard before, or maybe just a retelling of an old tale that excited young readers with its action contents? The ancient Greek myth of is retold in the contemporary story of The Hunger Games as Katniss’ trail at the games is a modern rendition of Theseus’ battle with the minotaur, and both characters are defined by their success.
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins is good book about how Katniss Everdeen goes through her life on the run from the Capital. After the second Hunger Games, Katniss gets pulled out and brought somewhere she didn’t expect. In District 13 Katniss is along with the rest of the rebels inspired by her. All of her friends that were in the games with her got rescued all except Peeta. Katniss is heartbroken and wants to go back to save Peeta and kill President Snow. Snow is the one that created the games and put her in all of this mess. She wants her revenge. Later on in the book they successfully save Peeta, but he is not what he was. He has been mentally changed in the capital. With Peeta in this state Katniss is hates Snow even more. A friend
A book is something that opens the door to our inner minds and shatters the boundary between our imagination and reality. The book that I read is called The Sea of Monsters has been a trail of adventures and laughs as the characters soar through obstacles and triumphs. Percy Jackson, might seem like an ordinary kid that goes to an ordinary school along with his ordinary classmates. But, Percy is a little special himself. His very father is the god of the sea. This book told a tale of Percy and his companions, rescuing their beloved camp, and also Grover, an old friend. What I love about the book is that each of the characters have different and fascinating personalities that made them unique to each other. For instance, Percy and Tyson with their good hearts; Polyphemus and Luke with their obsessions with revenge; and the monsters who tried to annihilate the Camp Half Blood.
Is there any possible way to get out of this darkness?Imagine that the greek history legend had disappeared from their books texts and came into your real life!! What they really did. The came into the real life of Percy Jackson. Percy has learned that his real father is Poseidon, the god of the sea, which means that Percy is a demigod - half human, half god. At the same time the gods are into a war because Zeus the god of the sky thinks that Poseidon stole his lightning bolt and which mean Percy Jackson must prepare to go into an adventure of a life time. Percy travels into a special world that he never traveled before called Half blood where he trains and also discovered that others demigods has became his friends with 2 other
“My nightmare nightmare started like this.” This was said by Percy before he explained this vision of Grover being in danger. The camp is in trouble and Grover found the one thing that could save it but he was captured and can’t escape without Percy’s help. He sends messages to Percy in his nightmares hoping Percy will listen to them. Soon percy will go on a quest with his friends Annabeth and Tyson to rescue Grover and get the Golden Fleece from the Sea of Monsters to save Camp Half-Blood from destruction. The Puritan would protest Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters due to the women playing a strong role in the quest, lack of family values, and its support of unnatural beings and multiple gods.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins was the first dystopian book series I read. I loved it and it sparked my love for mystery novels. Collins allowed me to feel everything with Katniss and the other characters. The idea of turning children against each other for the public’s entertainment still leaves me speechless.
My original thought when comparing Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the Lightning Thief the movie and Classical mythology was that there would be many more references to the myth of Perceus than any other myth throughout the movie in its entirety. That’s where I was wrong. After watching the movie again and researching the different hero myths my opinion has changed. My new thoughts are that the movie is not influenced by the myth of Perceus any more than other hero myths. The movie ties together many different heroes’ stories and mixes them together to make a wonderful story about a young boy. The movie was based on a book series written by Rick Riordan.
Have ever been amazed when 4 teenagers [demigods and monsters] enter a magical labyrinth from the times of the ancient Greeks. This book Percy Jackson and the battle of the labyrinth begins where Percy Jackson goes to his new school to begin a new school year. Then Percy is attacked by 2 monster cheerleaders on his first day of school. Percy Jackson goes to Camp Half Blood [A camp for demigods] while he is there he discovers many thing threw his dreams and other people in camp half-blood one thing he discovers is a magical labyrinth. In ancient Greece it was believed that the labyrinth was a built under the castle of King Minos the ruler of ancient Crete this was thought to be designed by Daedalus. When Percy and the others play a game Anna Beth and
Choosing a good book to read may not be an easy task at times because we tend to choose a book by its cover or abandon the book if we don’t like it. My advice is to pick a book that catches your eye, read a synopsis or perhaps even a book review to see if it’s of your liking. If you enjoy reading Greek Mythologies and tales of a brave young boy whose life had completely changed when he found out he was son of Poseidon-God of the Sea, then I would strongly recommend this book –The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The Lightning Thief is about a young troublesome teenager, Percy Jackson who discovers he’s the son of Poseidon which turns his entire life upside down. He was taken to a camp made for his kind where there are children called “Half-bloods” who are also sons and daughters of many other
My favorite book series is Rick Riordan's Heroes of Olympus. Those who have read the series know the books well, and probably love them just as much as me, if not more. The books introduce the reader to an imaginary world hiding within the real world. A place where the Gods of old still exist and the struggles of their children, the demigods, are still real. The series makes you feel, emotionally and physically, what the characters feel.. Through their struggles, the words make you feel and live through the characters struggle as well. If Percy, one of the main characters, was feeling something, I felt it, too. In one of the books, Percy slipped into a deep mud pit and could not breath. The wording made me hold my breath. I felt like I could not breathe either.
In my junior year, I went to boarding school in England. For my literature class, we had to read a book each month and write a review about it. I chose to read all of the Harry Potter series for my first seven months. In the exact moment, I started reading the first book, I fell in love with reading all over again. J.K. Rowling has a way of writing that wraps you up from the very first sentence. I could not put the books down. After Rowling's impact on me, I started reading the basic teen novels ‘The Fault
Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief is book one in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Published in 2005, the series has since grown to include multiple spin-off series, many of which tie back in to the Olympian series. Many of the readers of Harry Potter would also be interested in this series, as it also involves magic, previously unknown parentage, and adventure. It differs from the Harry Potter series however, in that it is written all from Percy Jackson’s point of view.
