The Skateboard Park – Conquering the Half Pipe – 2
I slung my backpack over my shoulder, grabbed my skateboard and helmet, and headed to the park. The weather was perfect and I knew this would be a great day to ride my skateboard.
The skateboard park was only a few blocks from my house, surrounded by a safety fence. A heavy metal gate was adorned with a larger-than-life cutout figure of a lone skateboarder, flying 6 inches above his board. Inside the gate, the amazing concrete street park was equipped with more than a dozen obstacles including two quarter pipes and a risky half pipe.
I strapped on my helmet and strode through the gate. As I stood on the deck of my well-worn skateboard, I stared in surprise at the number of skaters scattered throughout the area.

I paused for an instant and stared at my favorite local skater. His skills were so advanced compared to my simple abilities that I was sure today would not be the best time to try a kick turn on the half pipe. I wheeled my board up and over a few
harmless ramps and mini slopes. As I was approaching one of the curves near half pipe today?” I turned around to see who had asked that question. My mouth fell open. It was the local expert and he was looking straight my way.
My knees began to shake. My heart was pounding. He was actually talking to me. But how did he know I wanted to try a kick turn on the half pipe? I hadn’t told anyone, especially not the town pro. He skated my way and stuck out his you conquer that half pipe?” Now my nerves really began to get the best of me. What if I tried and failed? What if I couldn’t make it all the way up to the wheeled over toward the terrifying incline and motioned for me to follow. He began to balance at the bottom of the pipe and I followed his lead. Without a word, he made his way to the top of one side and teetered his board over the edge. “Ready! Watch how it’s done!” he exclaimed. I was glued to his
He scooted forward, extended his throwing-arm, and released the solid grip on his device. One friend zipped over to the other side of the stream, or at least he planned on it.
Then there were a lot of obstacles. They kept getting in my way. A stone fence was in my way and when I tried to go around, I fell. When I was close to the end, I fell. I made back to where I was.
I rushed up the ladder and stood on the castle wall. I gasped and my eyes couldn’t believe it. I had my hand on the wall and the roar of the enormous monster greeted me.

I was so scared to respond, and get stuffed into a locker again, so I didn’t say anything. Which obviously was not the right choice because he picked me up by the shirt collar and he exclaimed
He ignored it and keep going after a while he started to get tired and decide to setup camp he turned
If I'm in...I'll be All-In. While I'll be the first of family and friends to attend the University of Colorado, Boulder and unsure of the challenges within the campus community, I know myself. I am at my best when I fully commit.
The solid ground had come up to meet me, as I squared my foot up to the start line. My arms
You place your hand down and feel around the board, you grab the edge and once you grab the edge while holding on you drop. You are handing there but then you drop,The board was about 10-15 feet up in the air,so you tried to be careful.
It was the day the junior high volleyball girls played Madison Grant! They were the only team that we lose to last year.We were going back and forth and back. It was a really good game. Who won the biggest rivalry in Frankton JH?
As he was about to explain his what the game was about we heard a knock on the door, we smirked at each other and we both knew instantly who is was.
The cars continue to zoom by me as I begin to cry. The acrid smell of burning tires and exhaust fumes fill my nose. A horn honks, prodding me to cross, but my own indecision forbids me. My tears only make seeing harder, and now I’m crying both at that fact that I’m immobilized by fear, and at my own futility. I’m a chubby, little eight-year-old girl standing at the edge of the curb, trying cross the street. I am at the final intersection before my school, but all the crosswalk guards are gone. Earlier that morning I woke up late, so I had to ride my bike to school. The cars seem to be going at an impossible speed and veering toward me. I stand there for five minutes, contemplating whether I can cross, before I finally give up and walk back home in shame.
It was the summer of 2014 when I toed the line at my first trail half marathon. I wanted to run this race so that I could try something new, something different from the 5 kilometer race that I ran twice a week during the cross country season. After the season I realized that, although I loved cross country and the team atmosphere, I also loved racing through trails and running longer distances. That’s why every weekend during my training, my dad and I would be outside along the Appalachian Trail.
I just stood there replaying the moment in my head. I could've gotten hurt or be dead. I stood by the curve for a while just thinking. After that I just went back to the pool. But I couldn't really have as much fun because I was still replaying the moment in my head.
I quickly point out my house, feeling slightly disappointed as he came to a stop in the
