Have you ever wondered what it would be like to go hiking with some friends, and have them tell you to walk off a cliff backwards? Well, that is what happened last summer when I went camping at Capitol Reef. It was a Monday morning when my friends and I met at a neighbor's house. After everyone stuffed all their bags into the truck and grabbed their snacks we all piled in the vehicle and started off towards Capitol Reef.
When we finally got there we started to set up camp, and out of nowhere it started to rain. We had to try to find a spot for a tent where it wasn’t super muddy or covered with cow pies. Once we found a spot for the tent and had it all setup we realized the tent we had was not big enough for the four of us that were sleeping

Would I splatter and look like grape jelly on the ground or just a pile of broken bones. I watched as Dalton went down in front of me. The worst part of the whole thing is waiting backwards on the edge before my turn. I had to wait for Dalton to get the bottom before I could even start to go. As I stood on the edge of the 200 foot cliff they wanted me to take a picture, so I had to put on my best smile and I wondered if they could tell that my knees were shaking. Having shaky legs as you are trying to walk down a cliff backwards can be really scary, especially if you want to be sturdy and avoid slipping and falling to your death. When I finally reached the bottom after what seemed to be an eternity I just thought to myself that wasn’t too bad, and I got really excited for the rest of the trip. I had finally conquered my fear of heights and all it took was a little 200 foot cliff to rappel down. It was awesome to think that I was able to do something like that. Plus now when school starts at the end of summer I finally have a cool story I can tell my friends. I hope someday I can come back and rappel here again or try a cliff somewhere else, and have the experience all over again but not be as big of a baby next time. We finished the rest of the rappels from that day and got back to camp and I instantly crashed in the tent from a very exhausting day both mentally and physically. I could not
The thing that I miss most about summer is King's island. I had a pass so I could go when I wanted to and it was always a fun time. It is a good time to hang out with friends and go on rides. My favorite ride there is the beast because it isn’t too bumpy and it has a ton of sharp turns and caves. It also is slightly scary with all of the fake warning signs. The food at Kings Island is also decent so I wouldn’t have to go get lunch. If I get tired of the rides then I can go on the water rides and the wave pool. The water rides don’t usually have the longest of lines if you get there early but if not then they are worth it. My favorite overall is the Tropical Plunge. This ride has the drop shoot, You stand in a vertical tube and you wait for the countdown and the floor drops underneath your feet. You then shoot down the tube and you make it to the end. All of these factors make Kings Island a very fun place, and the thing that I miss the most from summer.
Eventually as I waited, the boys slowly left blackies and headed back to point Walter. Now was my chance to have my own attempt at the cliff. I knew I would most likely fail but I had to give it a go. I got up from my perch overlooking the scene. The edge of the cliff rose at least 10 meters above the river. The water splashing like a washing machine. I knew from watching the boys that as long as I didn’t land on my back or bellyflop,
When I was younger I used to play sports especially football. I remember playing in the championship game for Coral Reef Senior High against American Heritage Senior High. It was my last high school game and for us to remain undefeated throughout the season. I also knew I had to bring my “A” game because of college scouts were going to be at the game. Our game was to be played at Florida International University at 7pm. My team and I went to the FIU stadium two hours before the game started to stretch and loosen up. So as the time was winding down for us to play we step on the field, all I could see was a lot people in the stands cheering us on. I kind of had butterflies in my stomach but I had to put that feeling aside and help my team win.
My best moment was when i went to the Florida Keys over Christmas break in 2015. It was a two week trip just on our way to the Keys. On our way we stopped at the Creation Museum down in Kentucky and we stayed at my grandpa’s house in Maranatha Village down in Sebring Florida. When we finally got down to the Keys i couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. The water was that beautiful blue color and there was nothing but colorful coral and crystal blue water everywhere. When we got to where we were staying it was packed. There were more campers than we could count. The campground was on it’s own little island on the highway. My dad used to work there while my grandpa sang for an audience in the outdoor bar by the pool and hot tub. When i went to
As I road into town, brushing the dust off my Stetson, I sighed in relief. The dusty trails of Texas can really take a tole on a man. I was tired, and made my way straight to the Golden Coral Inn. I hadn’t heard much of the happenings of this town and was curious, but being a man of few words, I decided to just sit back in the lounge and listen to what was to be said. It was interesting, as talk up this way normally is. I heard there was a range war goin’ on a little ways out of town, between an old timer and a stronger, more powerful ranch. The bigger ranch, the Circle J, was wantin’ the land that the little ranch had. The littler ranch, the T Bar, wasn’t sellin’ though. He was gettin’ his cows rustled and every other dirty trick in the book. I was about to head up to my room when I heard a name that stopped me dead in my tracks: Tom Wesley.
I live on Turtle Point Cove in North Ridge, it's just a little bit into Saltillo. I’ve grown up in that house. I live next to my close friends. I live near my cousins, they live just a couple houses down from us. Almost every weekend we all have a cookout and we either go to my friends house or ours, since we are next door neighbors if never matters whose house it’s at.
I’ll do as directed. Though, I still need to see the Dolphin Statue up close. Malcolm and Doris oblige me. While we meander there, I don’t speak about the cyclist with the yellow baseball cap, though I yearn for him and Bobby. I put that aside and continue my journey to reach the bronze sculpture. Where, at last in its magnificence, I find solace. In the belief, that my brother and perhaps his twin have gone to a place like Summerland, to rest in beauty and peace, in a universe where dolphins play and kindness is the norm.
this, this was just the means to an end, nothing more. The dark grey clouds hung
Entering Cal State Channel Islands was a momentous victory when it came to my acceptance. As a matter of fact, I sense I was going to improve my writing skills and be out with the old traditional habits taught to me in high school. My writing experience was identical to a metaphoric quote, “kill two birds with one stone.” The stone symbolize when I abolished the five sentence per paragraph policy. The two birds represented writing techniques and understanding how to express myself onto a paper. Unfortunately, the only English classes I have ever taken in my higher education were English 102 and English 103. Consequently, from what I can recall, I was intellectually and writing constantly about my opinions based on certain topics. When it came
At the end of the day Reef got into Franks truck and head off to the rehab center to say goodbye to Leeza. Leeza hadn’t been the first one Reef had to say goodbye to, Alex left the home to go be with his parents, Scar off to university with the scholar ship she received after graduating high school, Reef had been proud of Scar, she was smarter than the others and proved it,
It was a bright day in Key Largo when I first arrived in Ocean Reef during the summer. Seeing the beige guard gate with green palm trees surrounding it at the entrance of this prestigious club reminded me of all the good times I have had there. My mom swiped our membership card and speeded off into the club with excitement. The car, speeding, turning, and almost crashing had made it to the golf cart rental station in one piece, where we rented a cart. This cart was freedom. Finally, I could embark on my journey and meet up with friends I had not seen in what felt like months. My cart made it to the “Raw Bar,” a restaurant known to all the club members at Ocean Reef. Before I got off my cart, I could already smell the fresh and salty tuna sashimi
One time when I was working as a MA in coral reef medical, I call a patient to take him to a room and this patient was upset because he had being waiting in the waiting room for 40 minutes. First I apologize and said that I understand his point. Then, once he was inside the room I explain him that we had a patient that was having seizure and it took me more time that expected. Then I ask the patient if I can get him some water or coffee.
The area was just on the other side of the Blue River that had a beautiful waterfall of a ten foot tall ledge. The only problem that was quickly noticed was the amount of mosquitoes. After a while we had learned to deal with it. Camping there was nice and quiet with only the sound of falling water and nature. For something to do we played tick-tack-toe on the side of the wagon with a knife. Mosquitoes caused problems many times while we were cooking food and just standing still. When the second day came we were ready to head off once again.
Before we started the hike it rained but that didn’t stop us from an awaiting adventure. This experience is the type that everyone should try at least once in their life, it has its ways of bringing one down based on physique but when traveling in a group none of that matters. The motivation of each other pushes the body and distracts the mind to go harder and further. The rocks were a little slippery so we all had to be very careful but we all managed to get through the trail safely. The best part going up the trail
One day we went we went cycling, and we would get in the cable car with our bikes and head to top of the mountain and cycle our way down. This was done once a week, the first time I did it, I didn’t notice a rock and it shock off my balance and I fell on the road which was full of these tiny rocks that just scraped my face. When I got up my face was bloody because of the rocks. Then I spent the rest of the day at the camp. We also went to the water park every 2 weeks which was the best part because I never went to a water park before, and for me experiencing it for the first time was
