Experiencing the Good and the Bad in Sports Every once in a while, people will always get their best experience or worst experience playing the sport that they love or have fun playing. I am no different since I experience the best or worse in each sport I play. I play three different sports: stickball, basketball, and soccer. I will explain the best and worst incident that happened in each sport I play, starting with stickball. I was about nine years old when I started playing stickball. My cousin helped me practice and chose the team that I should play with which is Tucker. This is the only team I have played for and I have fun with this team. The position I played for is the center since I am fast and I could get the ball quickly. Unfortunately, every year I played with this team, I have not won a single game yet. I probably …show more content…
I have been wanting to play soccer since seventh grade but I keep missing tryouts. This is my junior year and I finally get to play. It was a slow start for me since I did not understand how to play the game. As the weeks of practice went on, I began to understand it more. I played the defensive wing and my job is to stop the offense from getting behind me on the left side of the field. I also take the throw-ins when the ball goes out of bounds on my side. I started a few games but was benched later on in the season. We won eleven or twelve games and lost about three during the season. The best accomplishment we made was being undefeated in our district, winning six games in our district. On top of that, this is the first time Choctaw Central High School soccer team for boys won district. The downside while playing soccer is I still sprained my ankle a few times in the games, but I ignored it. We also made it to the playoffs, but unfortunately, we lost in the first round, which ended our soccer season. I am looking forward to play next year as this will be my second and final year to play for this
Shifting in my heavy metal cleats, I can feel countless sets of eyes trained on me, observing my every move from their hard stadium seats. Normally when I’m on the mound, I have ice in my veins; the stares of the crowd bounce right off. However, this wasn’t a normal day. Instead of standing on the rubber to fire fastballs at opposing batters, I was there to honor two very special ladies and to raise funds and awareness for a cause that hits very close to home, Multiple Sclerosis. During this part of the ceremony, a fellow teammate and I were supposed to present our mothers, who are fighting the disease, with a gift from the team. Unfortunately, this did not occur as smoothly as one would hope. With slick palms, I calmly approached her with
I believe in sports. I believe that it is capable of changing the world. Sports are a part of our culture that all started with the ancient Greeks. I think sports is a way to unite people as it has throughout the years. Sports can bring people all across the country together. It brings countries together to compete in games and events instead of fighting each other. Sports can not only bring strangers together, but also bring family together. For example, a son can bond with his father through sports. When you play a sport and you lose, your true character shows. Some people are sore losers and jerks after they lose. Then there are some people that congratulate the other team, even though they are upset. I however am a little bit of both. When I play sports, most of the time I show sportsmanship and
What is the only thing harder than disciplining a dozen ten year olds? Disciplining them on ice! All throughout my life I’ve played sports, and no matter what sport it was, there was always one person who seemed to have it out for me…the referee. The referee is one of the most hated people in the world of sports, but is also one of the most crucial. I grew up with the mindset that the referee was the enemy. Whenever they made a call against me or my team, they were always wrong, no matter how obvious the penalty was. But one day, my whole perspective on referees changed---the day I became a referee.
Baseball is the most popular spring sport in the United States. Something I once participated in and now watch. Just weeks before the busy season, Dad and I were working on the beautiful field. We had been impatient, working on the field for weeks now. We worked through the slush, the mud, and now the sandy dirt. Practices started and though I do not play I am at every practice. The ding of the ball colliding with the bat, the smack of the ball hitting the glove, and the players yelling, “nice job!”
I never expected my life to turn out this way!! 2020 Darren Clayton enters the NFL draft to contend against top players most teams wanted. I was surprised that I had made it that far.Now imam take you back to my childhood. I was only 10 years old in 2010 I wasn’t really a football lover, I was mostly a basketball fan. I mainly played basketball and watched it more than football. I never played football in my life the only sports I played was basketball and baseball but I never pursued it to the fullest it was just something I would do in the mean time to kill sometime in elementary school and middle school. In middle school I got curious about football so I joined the flag football team and played at an tournament against other people. At the tournament we played three teams, we only won
After waiting three weeks, I was finally cleared to play basketball again only to suffer another one. I was out after receiving an elbow to the head in a previous game giving me my first concussion. Walking onto the court at Eden Valley High School, I could feel the nerves rush through my veins. The whistle blew and the game started. I was going up to grab a pass when an opponent ran into me. Black. In those moments I was unconscious, I could only remember colliding with my opponent. I woke up in a car, my head aching as I sat up and saw bright beams of light off the street lights. The light stung my eyes and made me feel like the world was spinning a million miles per hour. “Stay awake sweetie we are almost home,” whispered my mom. Every heartbeat thumped in my head like a bass with the music to loud. I was so discombobulated and hurt I just laid there in the back seat
Do you ever wonder how to play a sport called American football. Well if so, then you've come to the right person. On a football team you must give it all and then some, you can never give up/quit. On a team you don't say that they are your team you call them your brothers. You give them your best they’ll give you their absolute best. This is where the quote “ I got your number I got your back” comes in.
Entering that room, nothing could have prepared me for what was to come. As I sat there my heart dropped when I heard the words, "you made the team", "you are not going to play much", and "if you tryout next year you will not make the team". I was in such a daze as I reemerged from the room. It was as if the wind had been knocked out of me and I was having trouble understanding what had just happened. I had never felt disappointment like I did in that moment in my entire life. Soccer had been the only sport I knew for 8 years. Change had always been a struggle for me since I was little so I was aware that trying a new sport was going to be difficult. Field hockey captains practices were held during the summer, so I decided to go to one and
Approximately 2 years ago, in the fall semester of 7th grade year, I was in the football team. It was my first time experiencing and encountering American football, but I got fond of it. It happens to be started by a friend named Chris, introduced and persuaded me into American football, who already experienced in the football team for few years. First I felt scared to play such a treacherous sport but my brother Michael, who was already active in football, asked me to play football also. Because many of my friends and people around me play football, I decided to give it a shot and later the coach was able to give me a position in the game. My position wasn’t fancy or much noticeable in the game compared to other positions such as the quarterback or running back. Even though I was
After playing ball freshman and sophomore year, I began to lose motivation and love for the game. I began receiving less and less playing time and my confidence was being torn by the coaches. Throughout this time however, I had grown a love and appreciation for the sport of soccer. I had been playing informal pickup games on the weekends with friends. My parents encouraged me to try out for the team my sophomore
I just got it last night and I have already gone through it. What am I going to do? I go through all of it like it is candy. I need to start pacing myself or this is going to get out of hand. I get more tomorrow but if anyone found out, it would be bad. I need to make sure no one is around this time. Last time, I almost got caught. Maybe I could get him to give it to me before the football game.
It was a warm summer morning on August 28, 1998 when my mother went into Sioux Valley hospital to give birth to a baby boy. After an agonizing 15 hours in labor, I was born. They named me Bryce meaning “Nobel One.” My full name was Bryce Jay Edberg, I got this middle name after my father, which his middle name was also Jay. Being born at exactly 4:03 a.m., with a staggering 23 inch body and weighing 10 lb 4oz the delivery was nothing less then painful.
There are several reasons why I am athletic. The ways I am athletic and stay athletic is through training and playing football, basketball, and baseball. First off, I train to get into shape. I do push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, and many other exercises like that. Also, I practice all the different sports and do different workouts to get better. The first sport that comes around is football. I play quarterback and linebacker and have been very successful. The past two years the teams I have been on haven’t lost a game! Next, is basketball, and it is my favorite sport. I have played it for all my life and still play it today. I play point guard and I like to shoot. During my basketball years, I have made many buzzer-beaters and
I have never been an athletic person. I was never very fast, or skilled in athletics, and I always preferred reading to running. But during the winter of my seventh grade year, a close friend talked me into joining swim team, and in the spring, several of my other friends talked me into going out for track. As it turned out, I still wasn’t good at athletics, and I still didn’t enjoy most of it, but I think it all ended up being worth it in the end.
The cool thing about humans, is no two are exactly the same, every one is different in their own way. We’re all defined in unique ways, some by their jobs, some by their livelihood, or interests such as basketball. This is one of my favorite things to do in life, there's just nothing better than setting foot on that court. When basketball season starts to roll around, memories from past years come flooding in. Being able to smell the freshly popped popcorn all throughout the gym. Looking up at the crowd and seeing everyone in the stands cheering us on, arguing with refs about a call, or not really paying attention to the game at all. The feeling I get when I’m on the court is second to nothing. This is where I go when I need need to just get away and think.
