Personal Narrative: Going Into High School

High School has definitely given me many potentials. Transferring from Leuzinger High School to Moreno Valley High School has made me noticed that I’ve learned a lot such as: how to problem solve, how to not give up on myself, and how to accomplish difficult tasks. For example, when I attended Leuzinger High School, I wasn’t open-minded. This is because I didn’t take any useful opportunity for granted such as tutoring or extra credit. Then, when I moved to Moreno Valley High School, I finally took a chance to take any opportunity into consideration because more people influenced me, which made me believe in myself. Throughout middle school and the beginning of high school I faced many challenges with my grades. These challenges made me grow and help shape who I am today. In my early teenage years I would view my school work not important. My perspective on priorities were all wrong. As I became older and matured I realized that. I realized school is the most important thing because my future depends on how I do. I realized if I want to go to a good college and have a successful career I have to work hard in school to get there. As high school went by my grades got better and I saw a better version of myself. My grades went from C’s and D’s to A’s and B’s in all my classes. I began to be attentive in class, and be productive and take notes. I did my school

The summer of 2012 was the start of the downward spiral into my high school career. This ass hole guy decided to dump me and my dumb ass kept going after him when I know I shouldn’t have so I got hella drunk one night (as a 14 year old) and made this hilarious video with my bff that people hated apparently even though we looked hot. And so we got kicked out of cheer lol. Stupid mrs hatfield even had the vid on her phone like wtf lol. So yeah great start to high school.

Coming into high school, I was kind of nervous. I was only nervous because I am so little and I knew there were going to be so many taller and older people here with me. I had my mom go buy me everything new but she did not want to take me to the hair shop to get my hair done. She wanted to do it herself; I was not having that. I felt that since I was in high school my hair should be done by someone at the shop every week.

Back within seventh grade towards the start of the school year I was put into a course called "Advanced Art" and I sat with a friend. My friend, Javier, wasn't suppose to have the class so he was sure to leave within weeks. During the time with him I noticed this big group of friends that seemed quite interesting to me. Around the time when he had his classes changed the song "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus came along and I drew a funny picture about it. I introduced myself into the big group and at first they seemed off about me but then they accepted me, especially this one girl named Tiffany. We had a few classes together so we would sit together and this was a start of a story of best friends.

Life is like an ocean. It ebbs and flows. The only certainty is that there isn't any. {except for death & taxes}.

Continue my story. After my junior high school to continue learning to a higher level that is high school, I also know many more friends, although the majority of women, but I really liked high school. Going into high school it was scary because of the new school. I went to East Moriches and we had a choice between Eastport, Center Moriches, and Westhampton Beach. Westhampton was the right choice for me because the school size was perfect, friends went there and my mom graduated at Westhampton too. The first week was hard to get use because of new classes and different teachers. After the first couple of weeks it was basketball season and my brother and I went to tryouts. After the three days of tryouts there were no cuts and everyone who tried out was on the team. Practice was long and had a lot of conditioning but it was fun and worth it. When I was in eighth grade, I was tentatively excited about moving on to high school. I loved my small Montessori school, and sometimes I still wish that I could slip back into the small group of students and just start my old classes again. Still, I had gone from an average student to an A/B student in my last couple of years, and I was feeling good about a new challenge. I was cagily optimistic about the move away from my small school, which had become a kind of second home for me, to a totally foreign and much more demanding environment.

I went from a middle school mentality to blossoming into a young adult. I massively flunked Algebra back in High School at age 15. This was not my most inferior failure, but was an event that left a pit in my confidence. It wholly changed the way I approached my academics and outlook on life in general. New assignments were given to me left and right. I thought I could hold the information given to me quickly enough. My approach was to wing it and try to cram all the information. The switch from middle school to high school is very difficult for many people. Once it is about one month before the school year begins, most have unfeigned emotions of nervousness and exhilaration because they have no idea what to expect. I am familiar with these emotions because at that time, I could rarely find complete repose and stop thinking about it. What many ponder, before they embark on the long journey through high school, is whether they will make new friends or not. Friends will be made, but diffident people, from my experiences, have had the hardest time because they are more reserved and quiet. Ones who have indomitable courage are not as afraid to approach others, introduce themselves, and find things in common. Additionally, many worry about the difficulty of their classes and what each teacher will be like. Most students hope hope their teachers will be altruistic and be the type of person to always offer help and advice. However, other students enjoy being challenged by having to handle all situations on their own.

While dressing unfashionably, looking both uneasy and clueless, in a class with no more than twenty students, millions of questions suddenly appear in my chaotic head. Questions such as “what will happen to me?,” and “how can I understand this?” built up the doubt in me. However, who would have guessed that six years later, I would become a girl who has adopted a different vibe with more confidence and enthusiasm, which I thought would never be possible, six years ago.

hen I first walked through Old Colony’s doors when I was a freshman I didn't know if my friends from my middle school were going to be there. Luckily a majority of my friends were accepted too but even if they weren't I was ready to make new ones. Freshmen year for me wasn't really nerve racking but I still had nerves because I was use to the middle school environment where I knew everyone but this was a totally different experience. The teachers that I was assigned to really helped with the middle school to high school transition and I am really thankful for that. The first time I ever experienced performing in front of a crowd was when I was nine years old and had begged my mom to let me audition for our town’s production of Scrooge. That was the moment that first began my passion for the fine arts, and as I have grown older that passion has been cultivated and expanded further.
