Jazz music can be performed in many different venues and setting. It can be performed in public place including indoor jazz clubs and outdoor jazz festival. When people are attending indoor concert setting jazz performance, it is good to expect a western classical because it considered well-mannered cheering after the artist completed improvised solo. Moreover, it is also acceptable among musicians. I attend a live jazz performance in Denver Colorado. This was my second time for live jazz performance. Last year there was a “Taste of Ethiopia” program that prepared by Denver Ethiopians community. I attended live “Bate” jazz by Ethiopian jazz musician Mulatu Astatke. But this year I attended a club setting jazz performance at dazzle @ Baur's
About a century ago jazz was considered as popular music and was considerably the most influential movement at the time. In 1920, jazz had infected Kansas City and it could be heard on every corner of each street. It began around the early 1900s, when African American musicians congregated in the city of New Orleans. In the town of Storyville, musicians would share and improvise their music. Eventually, some musicians would leave New Orleans to share the “New Orleans music.” By the 1920s, after jazz had entered the vocabulary in 1917, indie music companies began recording jazz
Knowledge of jazz has fallen far behind its development. Most people do not know the facts on jazz, only some generalities and stereotypes. Often being called America’s only original art form, jazz began as an ethnic music, but there is much more to jazz than music. It is difficult to think of jazz without thinking of African-American
Jazz is a genre of music, originated in African American communities in late 19th century, is a relaxing music. On March 15, 2015, Vallejo Jazz Society organized Jazz music by Lavay Smith And The Red Hot Skillet Lickers. I went to this concert on the evening of Sunday. I enjoyed the music. It was hard to understand the lyrics, but I like her voice, and the instrument played during concert. It is hard to understand English music for me, First I was looking for Punjabi concert but I was unable to find. Then I decided for jazz music (folk music), I asked some people about jazz music. They said it is nice music and encouraged me to go to the concert. I went to concert in Vallejo by Lavay Smith, who is known as queen of jazz.
Jazz is a music genre that has complex characteristics and history of development and thus many musicians and scholars face troubles in defining what jazz is. In general, jazz is believed to have born in New Orleans. Jazz developed for the pleasure of the social dancers. According to the “Understanding Jazz: What Is Jazz?” of John F. Kennedy center for the Performing Arts, Jazz was created mainly by Afro-Americans, and had elements of European and Afro-American culture. Also, it emphasizes few elements of Jazz, which are swing-feel, syncopation, and improvisation. These different culture and elements of jazz may be explained by how jazz
The marching band has also felt like a home away from home. If I wasn’t at home with my parents, I was on the band field. While being in the marching band at my high school, my long-term goal was to become their drum major for my last two years. I wanted to be the drum major that would cause the band members to put every ounce of passion into performing the show. Once I decided this during my freshman year, I put my heart and soul into my band. I stepped up to any work my band director needed help with. Whether it was fundraising or running OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) events or lining the band field, I was there to show my band director I was ready to be a leader. My setback came when I didn't achieve section leader for the flutes
Have you ever appreciate a really nice sound in your life? This is something funny for me because I love the Jazz music and when I have the opportunity to make my concert review, I thought that the best opinion that I can give you is about the jazz music. I was checking around because I did not have the opportunity to see an event of jazz music here in Reno so I checked in YouTube and I choose one of the most incredible concerts that I have never seen in my life. The international Jazz Day. One of the most important days that many people are joining around the world and they are sharing their experiences and their passion for the music. People do not discriminate that day, people do not see the music as before, people are one and they are sharing together one of the best nights that they will not forget in their life. This day is the International Jazz day and there is no problem because the jazz is spontaneous and share the most beauty thing with you.
Working with music takes a certain type of patients. That’s why when I knew this project was present, I had the perfect person in mind because I worked so close with this person once before. So, I decided to gather my resources and get in contact with our family friend Dr. Snodgrass who is the superintendent of the Fort Osage R-1 School District and ask if I could receive her email so I could set up a facetime call with her and get this interview on the road. Her name Is Erica Gregory and she is a high school band teacher at Fort Osage located in Independence Missouri. The reasons I decided to interview her were simple. First, she was my star time teacher which meant she was my study hall teacher. As a freshman coming into high school and being placed in a study hall class
Over the weekend, I had the unique opportunity to be sponsored by The Lincoln Motor Company to attend the Long Beach Jazz Festival. My first time attending the event, and it came with a world of wonderful perks.
On November 11th 2016, I attended a jazz concert that was held in Stoney’s wine lounge located in Dallas. I went with my best friend and this was my first time attending a jazz concert but defiantly not my last. The place was very elegant and yet it also had a homey feeling to it, which I loved. The band that playing there that night was the “The Mike Drake Trio”. Featuring professor Drake on drums, Floyd Darling on piano and Gavin Kelso on bass. The concert was held from 8 pm to 10:30 pm. Some songs and tunes that were played include just squeeze me and a child is born. The drums were played with different techniques. First they were played with the traditional drum sticks but in some songs or even just a part of a song they were played
During the performance, we countered with professional Jazz artists who had performed in different places on Earth. They dressed professionally and introduced themselves with one of their performance. Their intro-performance was enough for us to believe that we were about to have an amazing Jazz concert.
This concert report will go into great detail regarding the performance that I witnessed, as well as the genre of Jazz that was played, the artist, and the techniques that were used. I will start with my personal experience of the concert that I attended. This will focus on the details of the performance, as well as my mindset before and after the show. Next, this paper will research the origins of the genre of Jazz that was played, which is Funk and has been supported by several scholarly sources. Then I will look at the origin of the Jam Session. Finally I will then end with information regarding the performers themselves as well as the history of the venue.
Often labeled as America’s classical music, jazz has spread like wild fire since it’s origin in the early 20th century. Jazz was birthed by post Civil War African-Americans that finally had the freedom to express their African heritage combined with their new American culture. Initially, jazz was seen as inferior music in America and it was only played and heard in heavily African-American communities. However, the reach of jazz has grown to an international scale. This global outreach has musically connected cultures that now have a common ground where they can allocate ideas and traditions.
My first Jazz concert was a faculty Recital by the members of CCNY. The band that was playing was called the Pittson Family Band. Suzanne Pittson was using her voice, Evan Pittson was on the electric viola, Jeff Pittson was on the piano, Giacomo Tagliavia was on the bass and finally Anthony Pinciotti on the drums. There was a total of six songs and in this essay I plan to discuss what I heard during the concert.
I have never been in a jazz club before. I always wanted to attend a live performance of American jazz musicians and learn more about the history of jazz. It was one of the reasons I chose this class in the first place. From my perspective, I view jazz together with classical instrumental music as elegant and exclusive. I associate it with luxurious restaurants, theaters, places like Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, where people with great taste and deep understanding of music come to enjoy performances and celebrate important moments in their life. For my final paper I had an opportunity to visit the famous Village Vanguard jazz club on January 12th, 2014.
General Music Training: My first instrument was the piano, which I started to play at age six. I continued to play until my early high school years. When I came to Orono for my job as a Research Professor, I took several music classes from the University of Maine, including Music History and Chamber Music. I also took private lessons from Beth Wiemann for Music Theory and from Susan Heath for Rhythm.
