CenterCourt: Losing is good for the Knicks?
It’s been a hectic couple of weeks for the New York Knicks. Since Christmas, the Knicks are 2-11, putting them at 18-24, three games back from the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference. During this stretch we’ve seen Carmelo Anthony come out and say:
“When we lose it’s me, when we win it’s us.”
We’ve even seen Derrick Rose go awol. When I say awol, I mean the guy showed up to shoot around and didn’t show up to the game that later that day. A game in which the Knicks lost at the buzzer to the Philedphia 76ers.
Derrick Rose said him leaving and not contacting team officials was due to a family emergency in which he needed “space,” okay, sure, we’ll go with that for now.
The future of the Knicks,

Well, it’s not if you want the Knicks to be more than they are. What they are is a right around or slightly above .500 level team. They are an on the bubble team, a team I predicted prior to the season being a 7th seed.
Phil Jackson did what most of us realist didn’t want him to do. He went out traded for Rose, then overpaid for an aging Joakim Noah.
Thanks Phil, you made the Knicks look and sound more relevant.
Losing isn’t fun, and when you continue to disappoint, the aging veterans and players who are looking to get paid this summer become expendable. This is good because of what it could finally lead to. A full on rebuild in which this Knicks team is in desperate need of.
Having Rose is fun, it brings in fans, it sells jerseys and tickets. But, if you think Rose is a long term solution for the Knicks, please exit now.
Rose is now a glorified ex-MVP point guard. He’s not top 10, not sure if he’s even top 15 at this point. Yes, he can score still, we’ve seen flashes of that old Rose. Rose is not $150 million max deal player. He doesn’t create for others, his jump shot is inconsistent, he’s walking on two ticking time bombs. To invest the future in him would be classic Knicks, but I think that road has been closed

Derrick Rose, I believe will be traded prior to the deadline this season. The Knicks will see what they can get and ship him off. Of course the list of teams who would want a guy like Rose are small, Orlando, Philly, Sacramento come to mind. Those few teams could look for the scoring Rose can give you at the guard position.
If that fails, Rose won’t be a Knick in the 2017-2018 season as I find it hard to believe the Knicks will offer a max deal.
This is a good thing, there are better free agents available than Rose on max money.
What about Carmelo
There are 491 basketball players in the NBA, they all are very different in where they come from, who they are, and the impact that they are leaving behind. One player in particular is leaving his very own trademarked stamp on the NBA: Derrick Rose. He is the youngest MVP in NBA history. Rose played in the NBA for 10 years after attending the University of Memphis. He was a highly sought after recruit in high school with many scholarships mainly for being a once in a lifetime athlete who was known around the country for how explosive he was. He grew up in the rough parts of Chicago, where gang violence and drugs were always present wherever he went. Rose is an influential role model through his athletic success and perseverance, as well
Have you ever been known to be a “die-hard fan?” Have you ever loved a team so much, that you decorated your room with the team’s logo everywhere, or bought your favorite players jersey for that team? I have, and that team to me was the Los Angeles Lakers. I remember watching some of the most successful seasons the Lakers ever had, either when they were winning championships or breaking NBA records. Slowly I began to see good players leave Los Angeles and their record start to get worse and worse every year. Something needs to get done for the Lakers so they can become a successful team like they once were, and I know exactly how to do it.
National Basketball Association’s Eastern Conference team New York Knicks has given Derek Fisher the sack to vacate the ballclub’s head coach post.
As soon as the clock ticks July 1, the champion forward is going to be a restricted free agent, which means he can accept potential suitors but Golden State still has the chance to retain him by matching any offer sheet he signs with another team.
The New York Knicks have reportedly reached out to the agent of the former Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel to size up the interest of the 2014 NBA All-Star Game bench boss in the team’s vacant coaching post.
Although he is a feisty player, he is also an undersized guard who can’t walk the ball up the court. His lack of court vision limits his ability to get teammates involved. This may be true, but that is not his best suited role on this team. There is no need to handle the ball and attack the rim when you have LeBron and Kyrie Irving on your team. Dellavedova fit into his role perfectly and had success as a three point shooter, finishing the year with a 40.7 shooting percentage.
Will Stay or Go: Jeremy Evans and Trevor Booker could be on the way out, especially if the Jazz decide they want to make a significant move in free agency. It also doesn't help that they drafted Trey Lyles in the first-round. Still, Booker is more likely to be back over Evans, as he was the first big off the bench after Kanter was traded. Ingles on the other hand, will likely be brought back as he showed potential last season and can be a solid role player going forward for the Jazz.
Down one, the Knicks had the ball; Starks initially went up for a shot, but judiciously decided to pass it to Ewing. He drove to the rim, passing it to Charles Smith, before tangling with Stacy King and falling down. Charles Smith a soft player, who Knicks traded Mark Jackson and a first round pick for, halfheartedly attempted four shots at the rim, all which were blocked by Grant, Jordan and Pippen. Just like that, the game was over, as well as the Knicks’ chances for winning the series. In hindsight, the Knicks’ dreadful free throw shooting (20-35) prevented them from winning the game, but at that moment, Smith was lucky he got out of Madison Square Garden alive. Sure, he may or may not have been fouled, but at 6’10, he should have gone up stronger than that. Now, whenever Knicks fans hear the name ‘Charles Smith’, all they think about him getting stuffed at the rim four times, costing the 93 Knicks, possibly the best Knick team of all time, their best shot of beating Jordan, and winning the
The Denver Nuggets is one of the teams who underachieved for the past few season. After being left by their presumed franchise player Carmelo Anthony in 2011 they rebuild their franchise without their main man.
Many say that Noel was placed by the 76ers in the trading block since the start of the offseason due to his frankness with the team's situation and seems to be not mixing well with his other teammates. And with the arrival of a healthy Joel Embiid in the roster, it makes Noel be dispensable to the team and most likely traded anytime soon.
On Pacers point of view, it will also hard for them to give up George who deemed to be the franchise player of the team. Though Cousins, Crowder, and a future first-round pick are enticing, the Pacers are committed to George and believe that he can lead to glory sometime soon. Cousins' attitude could be a consideration too if Pacers president will
People on social media are blaming it on Melo, talking about trade Melo, he is a ball stopper, he does not play defense, and he does not pass. If you really watch the Knicks Melo has made improvements in all these areas but when they start losing it seems as though he loses faith. Everyone forgets the 52 win season, no one complained about Melo’s game then but if you closely examine that season you will see what made a difference. Donnie Walsh great leadership in the front office, Mike Woodson good coaching, Jason and Rasheed Wallace veteran leadership in the locker room and on the court. Chauncey Billups said it best Melo is at his best when playing with other good players. What happen after that 52 win season, Dolan happened, instead of trading for LA Marcus Aldridge like Walsh wanted to, Dolan wants the trade for Andrea Bargnani. And then let Walsh leave. Everyone knows what Melo does and that is get buckets, he shows up every night and gives buckets. People are talking the Knicks won these last few games without Melo, the ball is moving, these are meaningless games, these games did not change
The Nets aren’t going to win a championship this year. I think I can safely say that. They should use this year to build chemistry with their brand new team and use this year to prepare for a bounce back year in
Part of the reason for this is the performance of the centers signed in 2016. Biyombo, Mozgov, and Plumlee underperformed their respective contracts and the latter two were traded. Noah and Mahinmi were frequently injured and eventually dropped out of the rotation. Additionally, traditional back to the basket centers that can't shoot three pointers or defend smaller guards on the perimeter are becoming hard to trade. The "small-ball" era has made the idea of a slow footed 7 footer guarding a point guard like Stephen Curry at the 3 point line seem impossible. Even Tristan Thompson who is one of the Cavaliers best defenders was benched for long stretches of time during the 2017 NBA Finals because the Cavaliers tried to match the Warriors smaller lineups and space the floor. The shift in playing style has made it increasingly difficult to trade centers with big contracts (with the exception of stars like DeMarcus Cousins). The Lakers had to trade the former #2
The Magic needed a wing player who could score and defend. They got that with Hezonja. He is a perfect fit and is a great replacement for Tobias Harris.
