Personal Narrative: Moving To Texas

I believe that the situations I’ve been put through hold full responsibility for shaping me into the young, responsible, independent woman I have become. Going through my father’s deportation and having to depend on myself since I was only eight years old has had the biggest impact in my life.

Do you remember when you were a kid, there was that one place that always seemed so amazing, but once you got there you were so disappointed? When you are a kid, a disappointment like that seems to be a big deal. Well when I moved to Texas, it was just that. The worst place I have ever tried living, was in Bethel, Texas. There are numerous reasons that make me say this including, the excessive oil drilling, how spread out each town is, and how god awfully ugly it was. I would never recommend going there. I moved there, and within a month, I came back home. Even if I think of it as a Vacation, it still was a horrible experience.

When I arrived in Dallas, I was legitimately surprised to see that people in Texas were normal. They were not all wearing cowboy hats and boots with pistols tucked into their belts. I was ten years old, and I had just become accustomed to life in Missouri, right after leaving to Texas. Previously, I had moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Missouri when my dad’s job relocated us. Then, my dad quit his job and decided to pursue his dreams of owning a cattle ranch because his job had asked he relocate us to White Plains, New York. While his worst nightmare was being forced to live in a crowded, bustling urban municipality, mine included simply moving again.Visions of tumbleweed and desert haunted me the days following his announcement. Texas born and raised means a lot of things, but for me it means diverse. As a child, I grew up in the southside of San Antonio and attended a Catholic school which contributed majorly to how I act now and has impacted how I view others. However, in the 7th grade, I moved to the Texas Hill Country and learned a plethora of contradictory views. This has led me to form my own opinions on what is right and wrong and meshed city and country life to create a well-rounded, diverse Texan.

I did not know anybody. The closest person that I knew was a six hour drive away, not even in the same state as me. The day that I moved to Texas was the day that I left my sense of security behind – everything I had ever known was taken from me, and having no say in this discouraged and frustrated me. Being part of an expat family accustomed me to moving, but this time it was different. The transition from living in Qatar to living in Texas physically and mentally exhausted me, but, with the right skills and resources, I was eventually able to overcome it.

My mind will often wander to all the places I've lived in and all those I would love to travel to, or visit again. I think of the streets of Santa Fe, how fresh it would be compared to the over 100 degree temperature of were I am now, the hot dry heat of El Paso, Texas, a place I often come back to, the soil were my roots are permanently ingrained. El Paso has grown significantly in the past 10 years alone and is now the sixth most populous city in Texas (World Population Reviw). It's far from it's days when it was widely known as “El Chuco,” or “ChucoTown,” nicknames whose origins and meaning have long been debated, but no matter how much of the new generation is unfamiliar with these terms the history lives on through the streets and current

The company I work for is First Texas Homes, which is a private owned new home builder exclusively in the North Texas and Houston area. I office out of a model home inside one of the communities that I work in. The model home office includes myself, a new assistant and our manager who is the community sales consultant, Mr. Evans. Mr. Evans is the community manager so his responsibilities include, selling lots to clients for our company to build them a home, start a home to sell while it’s in the construction process, manage the community, manager the buyers who are on a contract, develop strategy to get new buyers in the door and problem solving, among many other things. I am Mr. Evans community coordinator and designer and some of my responsibilities

One day my friend and I was playing outside in my yard and then her mom called her in so I went with her.When we got in the house her mom said that they were moving to texas I was very mad because she was my best friend.But I knew I could not tell them that she could not move to texas.

I stared blankly out the window, then to my family, then the box that sat right in front of me. “Aren’t you going to open your present?” Usually I’d tear into the paper and reveal the item that I longed for, but I honestly could care less what I got. This family Christmas celebration was a little different, and I really had to make it count. This was just days before we had to make our trek to the great state of Texas. Thoughts about the move raced through my mind, going from California to Texas would definitely be a big change.

Longview, Texas is a unique hometown for many reasons. First of all because, more than likely, any given person who attends Texas A&M and did not play football in high school has never heard of it. When meeting new people in college, I’m always asked where I’m from and 90% of the time the response I hear is “Oh I’ve never heard of that”, 9.5% of the time I hear “Is that kinda by Houston?” (a question that, after hearing for several semesters, I’ll just respond yes), and finally .5% of people I meet know where Longview actually is. Living in a small town—not in the suburbs to any city—offered a unique perspective on life going into college. There are 4 high schools in town. Having lived in the southern coastal region of Texas I have seen many of the beauties that nature offers, but many of these beauties also bring complicated needs to those they effect. I've discovered the power and magnitude of lightning storms I've been entranced by the soft crashing of the waves on the coast but the most beautiful and perhaps the most devastating phenomena I have ever viewed are hurricanes. Hurricanes have swept through my home front on many occasions, these powerful giants drift through towns decimating all in their paths breaking trees, ripping roofs off houses, and bringing with them a flood like no other. The high water and gale force winds that comprise these natural wrecking balls can cripple families and in my community

My family moved to Texas changed how I viewed or felt about my how much family is important to me. When we first started packing for them to go to Texas they helped us pack to move too.We all had to do a lot because we had to do theirs and ours.

Growing up, majority of the time I was the youngest and shortest out of everyone else, so it was really hard to do things I wanted to do. I didn’t always live in Texas either. Before I moved here a lot happened. My mom was married to my biological father for a little then they got a divorce so he really wasn’t there to see me grow up only when I and my brother got to visit him. A little while later my mom was getting remarried and I didn’t really like the guy at first, but that’s like most little kids trying to adjust to new surroundings. Whenever my mom got remarried we became a military family and I didn’t know until I was older so it really didn’t affect me at the time. A couple of weeks later we moved to Germany. Here’s really when I really got sneaky.

Personally, I live in a state that has little wilderness, mountaintown's, forest, etc., therefore, it has been a lifelong dream of mine to have the availability to not only visit the three states that I have chosen but to also take my children to experience this with me. Due to having family who lives in Wyoming and Montana luckily they are so kind to share photos of both states with my children and me. However, I do not have family living in New Mexico, although I was lucky enough in high school to have a friend move from New Mexico and allowed me to see many pictures, nonetheless, this has been a dream of mine to someday make it to New Mexico.

It is normal for people have a special day when they come to new place. I came to USA since 2014 that was first place Dallas Texas.
