Personal Narrative: Moving To The United States

The plane took off and were in the air leaving the place I had only ever known. I remember when my parents told me and my two brothers that we would be moving to the United states. At the time I didn’t know where we would end up or how we were even getting there. All I knew was I would be in a totally different landscape with a lot of ethnically different people whom I have never met or seen before.

I woke up one morning and went outside to fetch the water from the well in the front yard. It felt like any other regular day in Lagos, Nigeria. Then, my parents called me and my brothers into the living room to discuss something important. My mom broke the news that we would be moving a great distance. I went to school, except this time with a funny feeling, knowing this was the last time I would ever see any of them. All my friends and other family, I wouldn’t be seeing for a long time. Then the day came. We all woke up early that morning. My mom helped me and my brothers pack our bags and get ready for the flight. As a family we made our way to the airport with a drive that felt like it took a million years. Finally, we reached the airports and I was ready to collapse in a seat and go right to sleep.

As we reached the door to get into the plane I noticed there were barely any people on the plane. I now know why this is. We handed off our luggage, showed our tickets, and boarded the plane. All of us sat in one straight row. I had a seat that was in the middle of the plane with my Brother to the left of me. My mom got a window seat and my other brother sat next to her. My dad was on the other side of the plane. With one final glance at the ground the plane took off. A couple of minutes after take off my ears got this popping sound in them.
