Personal Narrative: My Freshman Year At Pearl River Community College

Since the start of the semster I have learned many different things about myself and how I can become a better student all around. Summer classes can fly by fast and doesn’t feel like a real semester. That it is just to get credit and move on to the next semester. That was not the case for me this summer semester because I needed to think about the rest of my college career. This summer semester is my first one coming back from academic suspension and I took last semester at South Plains College and Tarrant County College. I did really well making a 3.00 GPA overall and am most likely going to make a 3.5 this semester. This will be a huge boost to my overall GPA. The point is am at the point where I am ready to graduate and will try my hardest to get the best grades I can. I really just changed my mindset towards college and the way I prepare for tests and studying.

I am a high school senior at Fair Park, looking forward to my first year at Jackson State University in the upcoming fall. My cumulative GPA is currently at a 3.6 average and anticipating to increase next semester. I would be considered the best person to receive a scholarship simply because I go the extra mile to assure my success. Although college is an extensive goal, it could be quite expensive. There is no better way to pay for college than by being awarded money for outstanding academic excellence.

My first year at Jamestown Community College as a student, I accomplished making Part-time Dean’s List two semesters back to back. Beginning college that year my personal goal was to strive making new habits to get the best experience out of college, while keeping up with my grades. I took classes to guide me through learning paths, but it they taught me ways of accomplishing what you wanted out of life and other significant information in classes. Prior, to entering to college I received a scholarship called Chautauqua Educational Opportunity to attend Jamestown Community College. It is significant to my study because in high school I constantly strived to push myself to get the grades I wanted to be proud of. I was part of a couple activities

This year, 2016 and 2017, was my first time at Early College High School. I was very worried and scared at the beginning of the year, but now, I am more comfortable at this school. From re-dos to essays, I have learned a lot this year from my English class. There are many things that I will forget, however, there are also memories and actions I will keep. Lastly, there is advice that I will provide for the upcoming sophomores.

I hope this letters finds you well! In May I will complete my first year at Manhattan Christian College. My current major is family and counseling. Being here at MCC has strengthened my faith in so many ways. In high school I was able to participate in five mission trips throughout the United States. I have always had a passion to help people and in 2011 when I went on my first mission trip I had a yearning to go out of the country and help people. Although I was only a freshman in high school I didn’t put that dream on the back burner. I want to share with you a challenging ministry opportunity God has presented to me. During July 2016, I will be going to San Cristobal, Dominican Republic as an internship.

Today I don’t live a life of shame or insecurities. I try to my live life one day at a time and live in the moment. I try to focus on what’s in front of me and not dwell on the past. Enjoying the simple things that life has to offer me and being grateful for what I have, keeps me motivated to set and reach my goals. Remorse and embarrassment is no longer how I choose to describe my existence. I have taken responsibility for all my actions and dealt with all my consequences with integrity and dignity.

Time here at Bridgewater has flown by the past four years and it is crazy to think that in five short months I will be graduating. My time here at Bridgewater College has been the best four years of my life but also some of the most difficult. I never forget the memories I have made here through soccer, Cru, and all of my classes. Bridgewater has helped me get closer to achieving my goals of being a physical therapist and becoming a more well-rounded person. I have grown tremendously in my faith because of adversities in school and also through Cru. During my second semester at Southwest Mississippi Community College, I had finally gotten comfortable at the school: I had made friends, and I was doing well in all of my classes. Well, all except for college algebra. I have never been good at algebra; this class was no exception. I tried my very best to understand the material, but my mind just could not comprehend much of the material that we covered in class. Because of my own inability to understand the material, I never finished any of my homework, and I did not do well on any of the tests that I had taken. I had later come to realize that my inability to understand the material was not the fault of anyone but myself.

I served as an officer for our Campus Christian Club at Lone Star College-North Harris for 3 semesters and I remain a member of the group these last two semester. Prior to attending Lone Star College-North Harris I served as a cook, and fund raiser with the Home-school program affiliated with Lindale Assembly of God. I also cooked for our Wednesday night services, or any special event that was held at the church. I served under the instruction of Pastor Randy and Jana Meeks. I also aided in providing perishable and nonperishable goods to the pantry and for emergencies such as opening the church for those who were fleeing Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Prior to this I served Pastor John and Gladys Greiner in Glorious Way Church. I aided in the children’s

Before joining GCU University, I studied at Suffolk Community College. Then I enrolled in Saint Joseph College where I only studied on weekends throughout the day. I liked the experience at Suffolk Community College because it was the place where I took my first English classes, and I learned the language. I took the academic courses towards to obtain an Associate degree. I did not like the experience at Saint Joseph. The instructors sent tasks and research to be done on week days. It was impossible for me to meet my classmates in the business hours because we all worked. My perception was the program had not been designed for an adult-oriented class because it functioned as a regular class. My favorite teacher was who taught me English Grammar

After graduating high school I began taking classes at Austin Community College. Focusing more on my business and marketing classes, working as a manager at Ashley Furniture Homestore this allowed me to use what I was learning in the classroom and incorporate these skills into the work environment. Over my time at Austin Community College, the classes were becoming harder to fill many of my classes were dropped or the Dean of marketing substituting many of my courses for other courses. I became Frustrated with this process and decided to finish my certification in marketing and return to college at a later time. Hello I know it is early but I was just wondering about how to go about becoming a student here next september. I am going to into my second year of Westchester Community College in Westchester. After my two years I would like to attend John Jay, what would be the steps in attending? Is their a certain grade I need to get in order to get in. Also while I was in high school I never took the SAT/ACT would that be a problem ?

The sound of thunder went through and my house in the middle of the night. Filled with anticipation, I was just waiting for the long rainy days to be over so I could begin to enjoy my summer. The forecast said tomorrow would have low percentages of precipitations. Plenty of events had been planned for that following week with my friend and I. We just wanted the rain to stop. It was the beginning of the summer of 2016 and I had just finished my senior year of high school heading to my Super Senior year as an Early College Student. My freshman year at Community College of Philadelphia was interesting and a great learning experience. Being a criminal justice major we have requirements that is needed to be completed. I tried to take the easy way out and it backfired on me. I took SOC 101 online and the professor taught me a lesson of tough love. He failed me and told me “come back when you’re serious.” I was embarrassed and disappointment in myself. Since that day I took college seriously and every experience been good.

Strolling to the podium, completely unperturbed, I stand there ready to present. My voice powerful, not allowing my words to just flow through the audiences ear and right out the other. But to make my words remain within and to inspire. And go figure? Everyone’s eyes are strictly fixed onto me yet I am still tranquil. I scoffed thinking about my freshman year of high school self. The night prior of my first presentation, tense and uneasy, I was unable to rest. Barely able to attempt a 5 minute presentation, now accomplishing a 45 minute one and feeling self-assured with myself. Syracuse University will bring this persona upon me. Constructing every piece of me, no, not like a puzzle, but like a complicated car in need of a tedious engine part.
