For my shadowing day I shadowed Mr. Jay, who works for Big Red Rooster company, however I spent the majority of my time with three of his coworkers. The first part of my day I spent with Mason Miller, a graphic designer, then to Sarah Mape, and environmental designer, and I ended with Brady Schneider, an architect. From talking to the three of them I learned that there is really no typical day at work. Any problem could come up at any moment and one should be ready to tackle the task immediately, however most days are not like that. When work is not time threatening or difficult, day can be more relaxed and chill. The backgrounds from those who work there varied. The designers found themselves in more artistic classes when they were given
On the 27th of January, I had the pleasure of Job Shadowing Billie-Jo Deal at the ODOT (Oregon Department of Transportation) Region Five Office in La Grande. ODOT is responsible for the construction, improvement, maintenance, and safe operation of Oregon’s transportation system. Billie’s official job title is a Region Five Traffic Safety Coordinator and is the only one working as a Coordinator in all of Eastern Oregon. On a normal day, she is typically working on writing grants, coordinating safety and enforcement programs, or giving presentations to schools and workplaces all across Eastern Oregon. I specifically chose Billie for my Job Shadow not only because I already knew her, but I have always been curious about what her job is like. I
I have a petty theft misdemeanor. I was going through a hard time and was trying to get food for my family. I was given a citation and ordered to pay a fine. I am currently in the process of getting my record expunged. I am a honest hard-worker with a strong work ethic. I am a fast learner and very goal oriented. I work well in teams as well as
As I step out onto the field I smack in the face the aroma of the freshly cut grass. I get the sense of being home after a long trip away. It’s great to be home where I know I have fans that will cheer us on. The grounds crew is out working on the field to get it ready for the game later tonight.
This semester I feel I have grown more as an academic student and as a global citizen. I feel that our Job shadow project helped me be a better Academic student, and that the Malala field trip my school went to helped me become a Global Citizen. These two things have helped me become a better student in their own ways.
When arranging my shadow experience, I looked to my supervisor for information regarding who to contact on the outreach team. I was given the name of an Occupational Therapist who could accommodate my learning experience, in which I emailed to set up an appropriate time upon approval from their manager. Due to time constraints, I was given the opportunity to do two home visits in the morning with clients that had been on the seventh-floor as inpatients. This was chosen to give me the experience of transition from the hospital to their home and the gaps within the system. Before going on my shadow experience, I made sure to get best practices and the job description of the individual being shadow’s job to help assist pre-job shadow time. The
I have learnt many skills helping me day with work pouring concrete and laboring for block layers. First let me give you a little background. My dad was worked as a bricklayer since he was sixteen. He has done the same type of work for most of his life, and that's where I come in. My first job was in the summer of 2012 My dad asked me if I wanted to go along and help him with a side job he had going. I said sure and we headed out around nine o'clock. Our first job was to replace a concrete pad and stairs for this house that was up for sale. We had to set up forms for the concrete, and pour it. I learned how to oil up forms so the concrete didn't stick.
On Monday, January 11 2016 my fall break was over and I found myself back in at internship at Leland elementary. After almost three weeks of vacation time I must say I was not ready for the event that was about to take place that day. Around noon in one of the classrooms I was alerted of the disruptive behavior of some of the students in that class. As I walked in the class I noticed to young ladies in each other faces saying vigor language and within seconds they were fighting.
I just got off my shift. Working in a bar means staying out late and being exhausted by the end. I stepped out the front door and into the night. The air was bitterly cold, I huddled myself within my coat as I walked down the street to my car. It was close to December, it would be getting much colder. Up in New Hampshire, winter starts in late early November and just keeps getting colder. I opened the frozen door of my little car and climbed in. The engine sputtered when I turned the key.
When I was 10 years old, I had the fortune of having my mom work in Charlotte. During the summer breaks between school, I would head to work with her and experience what it was like to work in the corporate environment. Honestly, I was amazed by the professionalism and the setting that it was in. So, at the age of 11, I wrote myself a note to myself proclaiming that I will work to someday work in the corporate environment.
Thank you for reading my work - I'm glad you enjoy it and might find it useful.
I interviewed the boss and manager at Arnett Farms. Even though they are father and son I thought they would be two great people to interview. I picked Dylan becuase he is fairly new in the industry but he has a lot of knowledge and knows what it is like to be in my position. He has been farming pigs for about ten years but he is the same age as I am. He did not go to college for pig farming yet, but you do not have to go to college for all parts of animal science. Picking someone new who is young was important to me because I will be new so I can conncet with Dylan in that way and I have not been to college for aninmal science yet either. Gregg has been doing this for a very long time, so I thought I would also have someone who has the expierence and
This week in field was interesting as I experienced a situation I am certain will re-appear after entering the work field. On Monday my field supervisor and I received a phone call from a mother who had been physically abused by her boyfriend. The mother was emotional and admitted to having scares and bruises. Before the client was able to explain the situation, my supervisor informed the client I would be listening to the conversation; receiving consent from the client before allowing me to sit in on the conversation. After receiving consent, my supervisor went on to ask questions in regards about the mother’s safety and her children’s. The questions she asked were, “Is the boyfriend still in the home?” “Were the children around when the abuse
The tolerance of quiet I have while working is little to none, which is strange for such a quiet person. When I’m by myself, music is a must, whether it is instrumental or someone hardcore screaming lyrics at me, or even watching Netflix. Some sort of noise has to be happening, but it absolutely can’t be kids. Kids are a huge distraction for me. My mother runs a daycare, so there is constantly children day and night. If I’m sitting downstairs, the little monsters immediately swarm me for attention. Let’s just say my focus ends up tickling the poor child till they cry. Multiple people around me draws my focus away from what I’m doing too, so I like just having one person around whilst writing to bounce ideas. One person keeps me focused and
A tapering man which is my supervisor with exchange looks, chiseled face, auburn hair, with flamboyant style waiting for me to start working in the backroom. A backroom, an ancient looking place with a lively crowded environment. During winter time this place turns into a cold frosty place because it doesn’t have central heater system. And during summer time people are soaked with sweat, and that place smell like A loading dock with a 18 wheeler truck with a tough look eagerly waiting to get unload. This reminds me of my parents, promptly waiting for me to return home before sun is down.
Its 9 am I should be at work right now. Unfortunately, I lost my job and most of my savings. I only have three hundred dollars right at this moment. Hopefully this lasts me, tough times call for desperate measures, eating less. I have a stock, I can either sell it or keep it. But everyone knows it’s a waste, stock buyers are losing money either way. I talked to my parents and one of their friends offered me a job as a grocery clerk restocking merchandise. Although I’m getting paid less than what I earn in my previous job, it will help myself get around. I also asked my parents if I could go and live with them. Graciously they said yes but, ill be sleeping on the couch. Its satisfying knowing that you still have your family during this horrendous
