When It Comes To Juggling School and Work
In life we all have encountered successes and failures, sooner or later. Although failure is dreadful, I can only learn from it. I have failed multiple times, but I matured and learned from the experience. I, being a teenager, thought a job would make me more efficient; however it was the exact opposite. I anticipated being employed would be beneficial, which in various ways it was, but it also lessened my time to spend focusing on school work. Having to attend school and go to work after, leaving me with little to none time to spend on homework. As a result, my stress level was increased and I obtained lower grades than usual.
My reaction to the failure was unsettling. I became disappointed in myself
My top interests outside of school is soccer. I love to play soccer because when I used to live in Africa that was all we played. I know for sure I will play soccer after I graduate because I want to be a pro and even if that don't work out I will play it for fun. I would like to try Larousse because it looks fun and that would be some thing new to me.
When I look at the word failure I didn’t see success. But that slowly changed as I read the book What the Best College Students Do by Ken Bain Chapter four. Bain, for me and I’m sure many other, have changed our view point on failure being a bad thing. He instead expressed failure as an “opportunity to learn something.” (121) As infants we grow and develop, we learn to walk by falling down a couple hundred times, and we learn to speak by babbling. By trying to walk, and trying to talk, we may fail at first. As an infant, you cannot give up when you are face to face with failure. You must get up and try again to learn. In the book, What the Best College Students Do by Ken Bain he uses people’s experiences and research to explain why failure is an opportunity to learn something new, rather than seeing failure as something bad. He asserts “people who become highly creative and productive learn to acknowledge failures, even to embrace them, and to explore and learn from them.” (100) Failure is important. If we did not get up and try again as infants, we would not be where we are today.
“The soul that knows it not knows no release from the little things: knows not the livid loneliness of fear.” –Amelia Earhart. When trying to accomplish your goals, not everything will go as planned. Very rarely will you just be handed what you want. When you work for something, sometimes you will fail. You will be told you weren’t the best choice or you were good, but just not what they were looking for. And it hurts. It beats you down and steals your confidence. But failure is the best teacher. Failure makes you stronger and builds you up to be the best you can. It can be challenging to try again
The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
Learning from failure is important to having a successful life. You have to figure out what works and what does not which requires some trial and error. Many famous entrepreneurs who have a successful career have experienced many failures in their lifetime. An example of
As a woman and mother balancing work, school, and personal life is difficult. I previous tried online classes before and they didn’t work for me. I was overwhelmed and not satisfied. I decide to leave school and gain some life experience and raise my family. I always wanted to return back to school I just didn’t know where to begin. I have always been a goal getter and determined to finish what I have begun; I started with research. I wanted to make sure that the next school I attended was a perfect fit, accredited, and that was going to try their best to provide me with the materials I need to go into the working world. When came upon UWW I like what was offered and it looked like their main focused were people who are just like me. I then
Throughout my life, I have experienced multiple failures. Putting in countless work towards a goal and not being able to achieve it in the end is a very frustrating experience, but it can also be a lesson for you to learn and become better. A time where I experienced failure was back when I was in middle school. My school will have an assembly at the end of each marking period, and a student from each class would be selected to go on stage and receive an award for their exceptional grades and academic performance. It was my main goal at the time to be chosen for this award, and I would work towards getting straight A's in each class in hopes of achieving this. My efforts were rewarded; my grades were excellent, I was one of the top students
Throughout my life, failure has been a constant reminder of how much I more I have to grow and learn. A time when I have experienced a significant failure was in my Calculus AP class. Before this class I would've thought that math was the easiest subject for me, hover, upon taking this course I've never been more wrong. The failure in this class progressed from a D to and F. I was devastated when I realized how inadequately I was performing, compared to previous successes. I remember studying all night for a test just to receive an F on it anyway. It was then that I realized that I was missing a fundamental step in the problem solving experience. Since I usually make really good grades, the thought of having an F on my progress report was eating
It’s not often that people experience real failure. Failure is defined as the “lack of success,” but even unsuccessful attempts can be informative or enlightening. Therefore if you learn something or you’re informed of something you may not have known, that is a successful attempt. Something is only a failure when you admit it is, or you don’t try to succeed at all. Although many would say I’m a failure at the sport of soccer, it is still my favorite sport to play and I have been playing it my whole life. One of my favorite quotes is; “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” - Thomas A. Edison
Failure, at its core, is a road that leads to success; that leads to achievement. Personally, I never looked at it with that perspective until my second year of high school, where I received my first ever term grade of a C. To me, a C was no better than an F, an absolute failure in every sense of the word. It felt like the end of the world. Even so, within this whirlwind of self-hatred, I learned something that helped me improve little by little: how to make the best of a bad situation.
Although we are pushed towards goals of success, I have come to understand how important failure is. It is only when I failed that I would push myself harder. I realized that through the difficult courses and late nights that it was the times I had failed that had made me a stronger and more diligent worker.

Dyan, I enjoy going to the city of Jenks. I would consider moving to Jenks if I didn’t work for the government in OKC. The commute would be too much for me. Like you I have recently decided to return back to school this will be my third class toward Organizational Leadership degree. It seems we have a few things in common. I as well have two teenagers, so I understand how crazy life can get trying to balance work, life, and school. Good Luck, I hope you succeed in getting your
Failure plays a huge role in shaping who we become, it may hurt when it happens, but in the long run it can help us by teaching us helpful lessons. Everyone experiences failure, but the people who overcome it are the ones who use it as motivation to do better. Personally, off the top of my head I can easily think of a handful of times where I have failed at doing something, but instead of letting the failure destroy me, I used it to motivate me. The first example that I thought of was how I tried for the World Affairs Scholarship through the Experiment in International Living. This scholarship would have allowed me to travel abroad last summer and immerse myself completely into a new culture. My three top choices that I wanted to travel to were Tanzania, South Africa, and Thailand. Most people kept calling me crazy, they did not understand why I wanted to travel to those places
