Brightpoint from my personal perspective is a very successful non-profit organization. They have been around for at least 50 years, so they must have had worked very well good to be able to survive all that time. We were so lucky as a team to have an organization that wants to go from good to great and not from bad to good. That made our work with them easier in terms of their readiness to collaborate with us, and being open to share any information we needed. Although they had already identified their needs, we aware that we should test out these needs by ourselves. Just as we learned in every OLS class, that consultants should do their own investigations and to be able to differentiate between subjective and objective evidence. I think that would provide more integration among the sections. For instance, Vicky and I worked together in analyzing the data, which provided me more insights when I wrote the methodology section and provided Vicky good start to interpret the results. I believe that the more we worked together, the better our final paper would be. Other than that, I think we have collaborated very well as a team and we were always ready to help and support each other.
I am so glad that I had to work with a non-profit organization, since this is the sector that I had experience with and where I want to be in the future. I learn a lot about non-profit organizations here. There were a lot of differences between this sector here and in my country in terms of funding sources, organizational culture, and employees characteristics. Unlike many non-profit organizations in my country, Brightpoint has a very good financial management and they are making enough profit that enables them to continue performing very well. Moreover, the organizational culture in many non-profit organizations in Saudi Arabia are mainly dependent on charity and volunteering; in contrast Brightpoint, it seems almost independent entity with some help from community and government. Furthermore, employees in Brightpoint are very well educated; mostly have post high school degrees and their passion is the motivation to be a part of Brightpoint. However, in the organization I worked for in my country, employees had low-level education and they had to work in this sector because it is the only sector where low-education is accepted. Recognizing these differences would help me to implement some of what I learned here in my
The diversity of nonprofit organizations, services provided and the problems faced shows that nonprofits require leadership with an in-depth understanding of the multifaceted nonprofit landscape. Understanding the culture of nonprofit work is also crucial and much easier to understand once you have been through a nonprofit management program. My career interests lead me towards an avocation of a deeper knowledge of strategic management/planning, legal structure and standards, increase my skills in quantitative analysis of policy, financial governance and developing fundraising strategies. These areas allow for macro management within the nonprofit
I would like to focus on one non-profit organization that has been doing very well in the recent years. The name of the organization is St Jude Research Hospital, which deals with the cure and treatment of children suffering from catastrophic diseases. In the five decades, it has been operational, the mortality rate has gradually reduced therefore saving lots of lives. St Jude started its operations in 1962. Danny Thomas was the one who started the organization and was helped by two other close friends (Pui, Pei, Pappo, Howard, Cheng, Sandlund and Gajjar, 2012).
A semi-detailed business overview of the non-profit organization known as the YMCA or Young Men’s Christian Association is discussed. A brief history of the origins of the company is detailed along with the definition or explanation of the company’s mission statement. The organization’s basic legal, social, and economic environment is described. Likewise the YMCA’s management structure, operational issues, as well as financial issues are discussed. Lastly, the possible impact that potential change factors, which includes the role of technology, can present to the YMCA business organization are discussed.
Being that my nonprofit organization is a dog and cat rescue in Visalia, California, it is important that I develop a plan for organizing and staffing for my organization along with developing the board. As mentioned previously, we are located in the Central Valley in the city of Visalia, California. Now that we have assessed our needs and objectives for the organization, we must now focus on developing a plan for organizing, staffing our organization, and working on the development of our board in order to help the organization be more successful in the future. A big responsibility of being on a board is raising awareness and funds for the organization (Blakemore, 2013).
Throughout my college career, nonprofit organizations have a played a huge part in shaping me into the person I am today. Serving others has always been a passion of mine, one of which I constantly sought to fulfill these past four years. Upon entering the University of Georgia, I immediately became involved in an organization on campus called UGA Miracle, which raises money for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. During my four years, I have become more and more involved, leading to me being given a position this year on their Executive Board as Media Co-Chair. Through this position, I get the opportunity to design graphics, websites, and flyers, as well as make videos, that all help portray our organization in the best
What I learned from this experience with helping non- profits is that there are a lot of things that they do in the background that I feel most people aren’t aware of. Most of the places we volunteered I have never heard of much or less knew they existed, which surprised me the most. It showed me that there is a lot that goes into making the nonprofits run smoothly, and more importantly people need to speak up about them so others can come help for a greater cause. Just because you helped doesn’t mean that you changed things forever, you must be willing to put yourself out there to spread the word about nonprofits and the good they do in the community. Even in our little perfect suburb of Sugar Land there is still much work to be done regarding
When I first started in the non-profit sector I had a positive experience; however, it was a challenging time. Dynamic determination was evident; I made a choice to have self-development by taking a position that felt "too big" for me. I was young and I was offered the opportunity to manage all the business aspects of a foster care facility. In order to be successful in that position, intellectual flexibility was a must. Admitting
Ideally, a nonprofit should never have to compete for clients or funds. Therefore, in my 20 years of experience in Human Services, I have experienced agencies that were not able to survive for at major challenges as they were not aware of strategies to grow and develop their vision. Knowledgeable leadership is most vital to the foundation to the elements of success. Leadership and a vision has to exist.
My experience in developing and executing strategic plans to drive a non-profit agenda, as well as my passion for all things Texas, makes me a good fit for the Executive Director of the Alamo Endowment position. I am looking for an opportunity to showcase my non-profit management, fundraising, and leadership skills.
The program is able to fund itself but it is actually funded through grants from the state and government. The board members break down the budget and distribute it to each department of employee salary, different programs and material, speakers, conference, software and training. The program recently been awarded a grant of 80 million dollars to fund the program. It’s a non-for-profit. Since the program is still in development it is understaffed. Myranda feels a sense of joy with her job because she feels like she is doing her part by protecting the patients’ safety and information. She said her job is stressful but benefiting because she is fighting hackers against fraud. She said she had to learn a lot with
A-1. Mission, vision and qualities are key components of a non-organization’s vital arranging process, and will control the advancement and conveyance of project administrations and exercises. They must be endorsed by the board of directors and ought to be conveyed to staff, volunteers, individuals and different partners.
Any facility or organization needs to have a structure in order to function effectively. I found two nonprofit hospitals just an hour apart from each other. The first hospital is Brattleboro Memorial Hospital (BMH) a 61-bed not-for-profit community hospital located in southeastern Vermont with a mission to provide community-based quality health services delivered with compassion and respect (BMH, n.d., para. 1-2). I have not found an organizational chart in their website, however, BMH is governed by bylaws and a volunteer board of directors in which according to Yoder-Wise (2015) coincides with the definition for private non-profit organizations. That said, the board of directors provides their expertise to make decisions on the overall governance
There are tons of non-profit organizations that have made tremendous changes in our world but are these organizations providing the essentials people need? The Human Rights Watch Organization is a coordination that was made to make the international world a more efficient place it was created by Helsinki Watch to help defend and protect human rights as well as give voice to the oppressed and hold oppressors accountable for their crimes. According to their website (hrw.org) this organization has helped strengthened the rights of children, women, refugees and migrant workers as well as bring up topics such as domestic violence, rape, war crime and many more to help people know more about what rights they attain. It is wise to contribute time or money to this nonprofit organization because as a human being that loves freedom and equality this organization provides the essentials needed to help people attain their rights internationally and it’s great that it was developed by people who voluntarily signed up to help achieve change for
I’ve had the privilege of working with many nonprofits during my career, from the smallest human services agencies to large colleges and universities. It has been a great pleasure to watch some of them start as fledgling nonprofits and grow into highly successful organizations that meet important needs in the communities they serve.
A non-profit organization cannot be effectively managed if it is not effectively planned. One of the challenges facing non-profit organizations has been long range, strategic planning. Long range, strategic planning in the non-profit sector is essential to the success of an organization. Long range, strategic planning encompasses broad policy and direction setting, internal and external assessments, attention to key stakeholders, the identification of key issues, development of strategies to deal with each issue, decision making, action and the continuous monitoring of results. (Herman, The Jossey-Bass Handbook of Nonprofit Leadership and Management, 154) While it is important to deal with the short term planning and activities of non-profits, managers or directors must consider the future of their organizations. Successful planning should be comprehensive, integrating all areas of responsibility of an organization.
