Recollection of past experiences has proven to be one of the best teaching tools in existence. It is not just the reminiscing of the past that benefits us; it is the critical thinking that follows said reminiscing that is the most fruitful. Hindsight is 20/20, as they say, and much can be learned when reflecting on past situations. These observations, in turn, have the potential to guide our future decision making as well as our future actions. As I ponder the events and actions that have lead me up to this point, I have found that I have done much better at handling my workload and personal life simultaneously than I previously assumed I would. If all goes marvelous and I continue forward through this semester while maintaining my current work ethic, I postulate that I will finish this semester strong and continue to not only learn, but to fully integrate all of this fresh knowledge into my mind to be readily available for years to come. I am pleased to declare that I have learned much that I did not know prior to taking this course. Throughout my high school years, the standard format of research papers was MLA. Although different classes reiterated how to properly format resources used and in-text citations, I unfortunately cannot seem to remember any of it, albeit the basic font restriction of Times New Roman in 12 point size (of course). What I can recall is the countless hours spent trying to figure out how to properly list my references for research papers, a frequent occurrence that frustrated me to no end. Fortunately, I have found that English Composition I has been the opposite. With the rules and guidelines set forth by the professor, I can foresee no subsequent issues properly executing in-text citations and reference lists necessary in the papers I will surely write in the near future. This new knowledge will undoubtedly calm my stressed mind in the weeks to follow, though I fear that it cannot quiet my qualms with this present piece.
Quite comically (in my opinion), the assignment that I have struggled with the most in this course is this reflective essay. I am no stranger to the standard five-paragraph essay with a strong thesis statement; in fact, I would honestly be perturbed if I came
A reflective essay is essentially an essay designed to emulate past experiences or occurrences in writing form. Most reflective essays are to show the reader changes and evolutions of yourself or certain aspects about yourself, so there is a constant change of tenses during the essay between past and present. During this essay I will be describing the most important parts of writing a reflective essay and all the key elements that should be included.
Reflective Essay of 1101 and 1102 English I originally took English 1101 at Atlanta Technical College and now I am completing my English 1102 at Clayton State University. Before taking English 1101 my writing skills was kind of remediate because I had been out of school for at least ten years. The first thing we learned in English 1101 was understanding the main principles of effective writing, how to engage your audience in your writing and essay development. My assignments covered a variety of writings such as descriptive essays, personal essay, analyzing quotes and narrative essays. We wrote in journals which allowed us to express our personal feelings about a specific topic.
This reflection will discuss personal diffidence and how it has influenced my academic studies, including my practice within placement settings. Gibbs reflective cycle (Gibbs, 1998) has been utilised as it illustrates a clear structure for the process of reflection. To conclude this reflection will draw together the themes which have emerged and highlight a clear action for future learning that will be used in order to enhance my future practice.
In my past writing experience, minimal effort was put into ensuring that my citations were correctly formatted. In Composition II, I learned how to format a citation correctly. With Dr. Rifenburg’s help, I researched and learned how to properly cite a book that contains multiple pieces written by different authors. I now understand how to cite sources properly and why it is important to ensure that citations are correctly formatted.

When I arrived at the agency, the room was crowded and many people were waiting for their turned to be served at one of the several tables. The person that I interviewed for this assignment was Emily Hampshire, the coordinator of one of a program called 180. Emily has been with the agency for over a year and is currently the coordinator of the agency’s newest program. This program is a gang prevention and intervention program and was created for the local at-risk youth in an effort to prevent gang related crimes and help youth “change their life around”, as Emily mentioned. This program was created in collaboration with the local Police Department and the Mount Diablo Unified School District and in
I believe I can have a lot of respect for the players, the server, and its reputation. I try my best to be as respectful to others because I want to be treated with respect. I've always treated people with respect (except for minor toxicity in the past), especially on this server. I've loved this server since the day I joined back in 2014, I don't know what it is but I always wanted to apply for staff, and I think I'm old enough and mature enough to help the server now. When I first joined Arkham I was playing in other communities as well (soup pvp, potpvp, etc.) and I couldn't not only dedicate time to the server, but I was quite toxic then. I've gotten better over time and have learned to control my "toxicity" so that I could be a nice to new players as possible.
For each of us, there comes a time when we can look back and pinpoint the exact day that altered the course of our life, for me, one of those days was April 13, 2010. I was 14 years old when I fell off my bike and broke my elbow. After consulting multiple orthopedics, I was told I would never regain my range of motion, but with the help of a certified hand therapist, I was able to regain full range of motion and prove the doctors wrong. Months later I had surgery to reconstruct my elbow that had not healed properly, but again I was able to regain full range of motion thanks to my therapist. While the doctors were able to fix my arm, it was the therapists who were able to give me my quality of life back. It was at this moment that I knew I wanted to be a therapist. During my freshman year of college, I began to develop an ulnar claw which eventually led me to undergo ulnar nerve transposition surgery. After spending countless hours with a certified hand therapist I knew this was what I wanted to spend my life doing. I had been going to school with plans of applying to physical therapy school, but the experience I had recovering from ulnar nerve transposition led me to alter my course of study and transfer schools. Today no one would ever know that I had something wrong with my arm or hand other than the scars which motivate me and remind me of the impact an occupational therapist had on my life, and my ultimate goal; become an occupational therapist.
From a young age, I knew how I wanted everything that concerned me. When I had to do something, whether it be an assignment, task, or chore, I knew how I wanted it done. It was frustrating as I could not portray what I was thinking to anyone else. Nevertheless, I didn’t stop trying. It became easier when I grew older and I learned how to research, generate lists, and create vision boards. When I found out about this method of communication from my mother, I fell in love with it. She taught me to prepare, and moreover to be proud of productivity. I applied everything I had learned when the “new” iPad 4 came out four years ago. I believe in the power of planning.
My work ethic and my ability to fulfill my commitments shows how much of a dedicated and hard-working person I am, in terms of achieving my goals. Academically, I have been set on a course of facing on challenges to overcome. Since childhood, I have been placed in the Gifted and Talented program where my peers and I took advanced and honors courses, in which we would focus on rigorous and tough tasks; due to my effort, I was consistently one of the top students in my classes. However, when I entered Bronx Science, I realized that I would have to put even more effort in order to stay on top of all my classes and continue to do well. Sophomore had hit me hard, taking two AP classes, one honors, and one biology research class, but receiving relatively well grades by the end of both semesters had shown that I worked hard throughout all year in order to succeed and achieve my goals of being exceptional in my academic career. My extracurricular activities additionally demonstrate my determination, work ethic, and ability to fulfill commitments. Starting in June 2015, I worked as an intern at the Jackson Heights branch of Khan’s Tutorial, a medium-sized tutoring and mentorship academy. I initially planned to only intern for the summer, in which I would aid instructors, grade papers and homework, and do other simple administrative duties. However, I decided to continue interning past the summer because I was determined to continue working and I enjoyed the work environment at Khan’s
Participating in the Sixth Year in Administration course work at Sacred Heart University has allowed me the opportunity to develop myself as a researcher and professional author through writing a thesis. This process took place over three classes with the final class running simultaneously with Internship II. The tertiary course involved conducting the specific research, analyzing the data collected, and writing the analysis and conclusion chapters of the thesis. Creating a useable survey was a more challenging process than I anticipated. With appreciation, I was granted permission to use a survey developed by Wertz, Carpenter, and Fewell as the foundation of my thesis. Items were added or deleted to meet the needs of the North Haven Community. To gain face validity, I reached out to professionals in other districts to review my survey and share suggestions to improve it with me. After the survey was disseminated, the responses trickled in. Upon receipt of responses from various staff members, I realized that I would need to convert some of the verbal answer choices to a numerical code prior to being able to analyze the data. Luckily using software such as an Excel spreadsheet this could be done without much complication.
This MPX years has been very valuable to me as a learner. This year, I have greatly expanded my knowledge and skills as a learner. My Success can be observed in my POL and past projects. I would also like to explain MPX was the right choice for me.
I began my journey at CCRI in the Fall of 2015 after realizing that my life was not progressing in a direction I was comfortable with. I had previously attended three semesters at another community college in my early 20's but did not complete the program due to unexpectedly starting a family (whoops!) and dropping out of school. I had no support network and no money, so I did the only thing that made sense... I got a job. Over the years I worked menial jobs for greedy bozos, eventually acquiring a trade and securing steady reliable income. At first, I felt accomplished to have ascended the ranks and provided for my family, but as time progressed it became apparent that, unless I made a change, I had little room left for career growth.
Developing an awareness that there are layers of meaning to an idea/concept; openness to finding patterns and connections and exploring the multiple possibilities and interpretations.
I am Samantha pressdee and I will self assess myself for this quarter. I will discuss my attendance, my grade, work ethic and my overall attitude in this class.
