Why am I in College?
People ask me why I'm going to college all the time. Or more specifically, why I'm starting so late. Most of my friends are graduating college this year, just as I'm starting my first year. Some tell me they loved it, and others tell me it's a complete waste of time and money. Not going to college has never been an option for me. My goal here is to get a bachelor's degree in computer programming, start my career, and better myself for my kids so they can have a better life and something to look up to. Growing up, there were many things I thought I would want to do when I got older. First it was teaching, then becoming a lawyer, and I considered becoming a music teacher since I played the violin for 8 years during school.
Noted authors, Brandon Chambers, is quoted saying, “If you are going to fear anything fear success. Think about what you are doing and when you succeed what life you will have.” There are several different reasons why I could stay home, work and not go to college; I could go to work every day and make more money for the house, it’s easier, and I would be less stressed. Now, on the other hand there are many reasons why I should go to school; such as further my education, make my family proud, and make myself proud. I am attending college for several different reasons. One reason is to further my education. I hate feeling like I don’t know something, I like being the person everyone comes to for information. Also, because I want to
Good things do not come to those who wait. They happen to people who put in blood, sweat and tears. Good things happen to people with grit, passion and the ability to fight for something better. I am a strong believer that if an opportunity does not find you, you had better get up and chase it. It is much easier to accept the hands dealt to you. However, I do not have time to sit around and wait for the good to happen to me. Change and success wait for nobody, which is why me attending college and, hopefully, having help funding my education is so incredibly important. I am chasing my dreams down, and once I catch them, I do not plan to let them go.
Six years after graduating High School, I have finally decided to pursue a college education. Three, fairly common, factors played in to my decision to go back to school: learning new things, building confidence in myself and pursuing my desired career. I understand that graduating college is a difficult task, which is why I must make a plan for my success and stick to it. I must also rely on my personal strengths and my motivation to guide me through the tough times that I am sure to experience on my road to success to get my degree in Criminal Justice. I have always been a person who is eager to learn new things.
Choosing to attend college was a difficult choice, my mother is the only person in all of my family to ever attend and graduate college. My father and the rest of my family have all gone into trade work, some of them attending a trade school and some not. While all of my family does well and live a comfortable lifestyle. I have noticed through the years that my mother has always been employed even when others in my family have not and she always seems to have an easier time finding work. This is the main reasons I decided to attend college, with higher education often times comes more job security and stability. I decided to attend CU boulder specifically due to the fact that it is very close to home, as well as the fact that it is a very
Why did I decide to attend college? I chose this path for my life when I was very young, both of my parents attended some form of higher education. They both ended up living fairly well, I decided that I wanted to be successful in life as well and that going to college would be an integral part of my future. I want to be able to live in comfort; be able to be a productive member of my community still, become an adult, and be able to understand things in a new light.
I decided to go to college because I believe that education is an important part of life and that being educated has many advantages. Like many, one of the biggest reasons for deciding to attend college is to create a better future for myself. Being a first-generation college student my parents have implanted on me the importance of college education, as it is something they wish they would have done themselves. As the first of four children to go to college, I feel that it is my responsibility to be a good example to my younger siblings, and show them that it is important to have goals in life and to better yourself as a person through education. I understand that an university education may not be for everyone, but it felt like the right choice for me. What I hope to get out of college is a life-changing experience, not only to get a better education, but to find something I am truly passionate about. I think it is important when choosing a career or a major to find something your heart truly wants and not just a career that will make you able to afford expensive things. I also hope that somewhere along the path to graduation and adulthood, I find myself as a person and develop ideas, opinions, and to be able to approach the world with an
You ask, why do I want to attend college? , probably expecting the most common response of a heart to heart sob story coming from a not so fortunate young lady residing in Sanford, Florida. I am not taking that option I like to call the “easy toll” paying everyone a feeling that results in a sign of sympathy. I don’t need sympathy; I wish to just impress anyone just by my intellect ways and showing that I am headstrong. There are a numerous amount of reasons why I would love to attend college but the main three is that it really is the only possible way to become comfortably successful, my ancestors fought for me to even go to school and further my education, and to make the woman that raised me proud.
There might be a time where people ask you, “why are you in college” or “why to decide to go to college.” People might reply by saying that they want a degree, that they want a higher paying job, or they need that for a future career that they are pursuing. Those responses are the most typical reason of why people go to college. Sure you can say that having a degree means that a person can get a better job with better pay rather than working in the manual labor fields with minimum pay. A college degree is the fundamental stepping stone to the future, it lays the foundation of where to start. College is everything to me; I’m in college so I’m able to unlock more potential in myself, to be able to make my mother proud with everything that she has done and hopefully becoming the first.
In the beginning of the term the class had a discussion about why we are attending college and why they choose the major we are in. Many of the students answer that because they wanted to gain knowledge but also other responded because without an education you cannot get a lot of money. In the article “Making college relevant” by Kate Zernike quoted that in a survey done in Los Angeles, California to 400,000 incoming freshmen in 1971 their answers were that only 37 percent went to college to get money and 73 percent to gain knowledge. The same survey was done in 2009 but the percentages flipped 78 percent wanted money and 48 prefered to gain knowledge. Our percentages were very similar to the 2009 ones. We are in a society where you are expected
Education is key. My parents have always taught me that whatever you learn stays with you for the rest of your life. College is my aspiration. I want to attend a four year university to maintain a better lifestyle. I love learning new things; it’s like an addiction and you just want to absorb more knowledge. I witness my parents arrive home everyday tired because all they desire is to give me a better life. They want me to succeed and I have just opened my eyes and realized life is harder than I thought. My parents want the best for me and I want the best for myself which means if I try my best I can achieve my goal into making it into a four year university and graduating.
Throughout my entire life--or, only as much of it as I can remember--my family struggled financially, as we still do. I had become so accustomed to my family’s penny-pinching tendencies that I would constantly compare prices whenever I went to the grocery store to see if I could find a cheaper price.
I am a Hispanic who lives with wonderful parents who unfortunately could not go to college. It was very expensive for them to attend college. I will be a first generation college student seeking to make a statistical change. I want to be one of those few Hispanics that do go to college and end up getting a doctorate degree. I have lived all my life with one goal: to earn my doctorate degree. I am a young adult fully aware of the hard physical labor my parents have to go through each day to provide for our family. By helping them, I am more aware of how difficult it really is for them. I do not want to live in the tradition of most Hispanics: I do not want to end up in a job in construction, or landscaping that will not allow me to develop my
Everyone when they were younger say what they want to be when they older right? My plan was to always go to college after high school. I choice to go to College now because it's at the right time graduating right after high school this year , might as well start college now and take no years off to get things moving quicker and hopefully get my career if I do well in college which I hope . In my opinion it's better to start soon then later. There were a few individuals in my life that continuously tried to influence me to attend college. I had several family members that were attending college, and a couple that had already graduated. Being around my family always made me think about my lifetime goals career and education wise
Why go to college? What is the need to take the SAT’s and fill out and an application and an essay just to get in some place that you have to do more work for two or four years. For a secure future… By secure future I mean making a good amount of money and maybe even more. If you're ever going to have a family don’t you want to make sure that their future is secure as well. But, going to a good college doesn’t just give you materialistic things in life, it gives you a feeling of pride whether you’re the first one to attend college or just like everyone else in your family.
I am in college because of several reasons. Neither of my parents went to college and they constantly remind me of how much they regret it. I would be the first person in my family to receive a college degree and that motivates me to continue my education. My dad is in the United State Air Force and he has transferred his Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits to me. Receiving the benefits gives me a large percentage off of my tuition and it also allows me to receive a check every month to help pay for housing. I have one goal for being in college and that is to finish. I have had many setbacks in my four years of college because of how many times I have transferred, but now all I can do is finish what I started.
