"Too many college graduates enter into post grad on a chaotic job hunt without any advice on how to navigate through it. While in college you hear countless stories of people not finding employment after graduation but never do you actually think it would be you. If you graduated and immediately found your dream job then congratulations!! But this blog isn’t for you. It’s for the reader who has been filling out so many job applications that they aren’t even sure what they want to do anymore. It’s for the readers who disregard what they majored in just so they can enter the workforce. And lastly, it is for the reader who lives in their own disappointment, who have made sure they held internships, kept their grades up, and obtained the necessary skills but still can’t find employment. I am here to tell you that it is okay. Things will fall into place but you must keep your head up and stay on the path that was ordained just for you."
I guess people just forget about MSU Career services, deans of colleges, and graduates at MSU that have experience/knowledge on how to search for a job, etc. From my experience, you don't fill out a job application to get the job, you only fill out the job application once you have it. How do you do that ? Magic ? No building connections. If you do not have a job after graduation you are to blame and pure laziness. Its too many resources and potential connections to build at a University to be unemployed after graduation. Every time I hear a
When you think about a teacher, you automatically think about someone who teaches kids for a living. Being a teacher doesn’t have to be just teaching children on a daily basis. Teachers are the reasons why a lot of children have grown to love learning and appreciate the effort their teacher has put into their education. Teachers are very important in today’s society and they do a lot for everyone. Teachers aren’t just there to make lesson plans, grade papers, and write on black-boards. Teachers are around because they want to give children a proper education.
Have you ever wondered why you couldn’t take a class at school that truly interests you, such as learning about the culinary arts or discovering the ins and outs of being an emergency medical technician? Vocational education is an option that is becoming increasingly popular for students seeking a wider variety of class choices. Sometimes, when people hear the words “vocational education,” a negative image pops into their minds. Many people believe that vocational education is primarily offered to non-college bound students, dropouts, or students with special needs. What people don’t realize is that vocational education can give students the opportunity to improve their employability skills, become informed about different career options, and learn helpful skills they can use throughout the rest of their lives even before going to college and being released into the real world. Therefore, I believe that vocational education should be offered to students.
College is an exciting but confusing time in everyone’s lives. In “Many with New College Degrees Find the Job Market Humbling”, Catherine Rampell explain how even if a student attends college the student is not guaranteed a job. In “Job Outlook for College Graduates is Slowly Improving”, Lacey Johnson talks about how the job market for recent graduates is beginning to repair itself. In “College Majors, Unemployment, and Earnings: Not All College Degrees are Created Equal”, Anthony Carnevale, Ben Cheah, and Jeff Strohl discuss which college majors have the most jobs in the current economy. The three essays answer some important questions that students might have such as: is college worth it, if a student does go to college what type of degree they should get, and what students should major in.
However, I wanted a well paid job as a Business Manager in one of the large research departments at the University of Maryland. This was my dream job. However, a major challenge for me trying to obtain my dream job was that I didn't have yet a College Degree in Business Administration or any related area. I was pursuing a College Degree in Business Administration but I still had many years left to complete my degree. Again, as usual, my beloved mentor Joao came to my rescue. He taught me that even though I did not have a College Degree yet there were unconventional but very effective ways to land my dream job. He told me to apply for jobs before they are ever listed. Thus, I needed to connect with people from all walks of life at University of Maryland to learn about these hidden opportunities. Then, as I developed mastery in business administration and the specific business processes standardized at University of Maryland I would continue to create job opportunities even though I did not have yet a College Degree. He insisted that these large departments will always need people who can deliver strong results. I started to get interviews at the large research departments and I insisted in my interviews, as Joao advised, that I was willing to learn and I was not afraid to constantly educate myself. This way, I landed my dream job as a Business Manager at the Astronomy Department in spite of not having a College Business Degree yet. I have been there for almost 10
In the non-fiction text, McJobs, by Eric Schlosser, it is explained how fast food chains like McDonald’s have changed the country. They have transformed small towns such as Martinsburg, West Virginia, from spacious orchards into busy cities. Because of this, some may argue that fast food has made a negative impact. However, fast food also provides jobs for millions of young, inexperienced workers. A lot of evidence can be found for both sides of the argument, so it is clear that fast food has made many changes for good and for bad. A lot of things that you wouldn't expect have been affected by fast food: the economy, people’s health, population, and more.
On the other hand, there are many problems in college from the starting day until graduate. So, it is the same what author said “graduates unable to find good jobs, or any job at all” that things happened to my cousin, who is a doctor, and my brother, who has a master degree in investment management. Both of them spent over a year to find jobs which were not related to their degrees.
People do not have the time to keep up with what you are doing. Quite honestly, people have difficulty keeping up with themselves much less anyone else. In fact, if you are not in their face on a constant basis, you will be largely forgotten. You complete your work with no problems. Everything gets done, and there are no problems. For this, you need to make sure that you are on their radar.
It is currently the summer before Travis Johnson’s senior year of high school. He has until January to decide where he want to go to college. But he is contemplating not going to college at all. What’s the point, he wonders. Why go to college when he just finished 12 years of school? Travis really doesn’t want to go through years of school all over again. He feels that college would just be a waste of his time and money. In his mind, he believes that he can go ahead and start his career. Travis’ parents believe he would be making a mistake by not going to college. So before he makes a real decision on what he wants to do, his parents want him to do research. Going to college would be a much better option than not going. College can ensure financial stability, provide job security and give better career opportunities
---Michelle Minter says, “ When I graduated, I thought I was going to get this first- class job and be a successful marketing person. But those opportunities come with experience. I just thought I'd be automatically handed this great opportunity, but it wasn’t the case” (133).
On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered one of the most intensely worded speeches ever to be given, “I Have a Dream.” This speech not only touched the hearts of many in his time, but has also shaped a lasting impact on each and everyone today. While we may have come a long way as a nation since Dr. King’s speech, we are certainly far from being the ideal nation he had envisioned. Political battles, wrongful accusations, and racism are still prevalent in today’s society.
One of the things that are expensive but necessary to your job hunt is the internet, but you're unemployed so that eats up the little money you have until you get a job but then so many jobs are posted online... it's a vicious circle.
The United States of America, is known to most as the land of the free and the home of the brave. A place where everyone has the opportunity to be whoever they want to be. President John F. Kennedy once said, “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty”. He is expressing that the freedom and opportunities the citizens have, is what makes people proud to be an American. Because of our founding fathers, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights, every person that lives in the United States has the right to speak freely, the liberty of voting for future leaders, freedom of religion
Let’s get to work. The first thing that needs to happen is the job hunt. Which starts with searching for an opening and researching your company and what their values are. Job hunting will not be easy at all. There will be over a thundered people going out for the same job as you, that have also have graduated. This process could take months until to make it. But never giving up is a big key. When it comes to job hunting you have to make sure that you look and act professionally. To me a think that this means that one needs to dress the right way,
We spend four years of our lives attending high school. Going through high school is supposed to prepare us for college and “the real world.” Throughout these four years we begin to better understand our choices for college majors, but we don’t get presented with the financial and time struggle that we will face. College costs money, along with everyday living. When attending college we become more independent and are faced with the problem of coming up with money and finding a balance between time for work and school. Though it may seem like working through high school is a bad idea, it could better prepare students for “the real world.”
Nine hundred and thirty-seven. That is the number of people assaulted and killed by law enforcement officers, this year alone. Our government is implementing laws and regulations that punish minorities and those without money so they cannot afford to live comfortably in our society. Citizens are being refused the right to serve in our nation’s military strictly because of the fact that they don’t conform to an archaic idea of a two-gender system. We are witnessing the Great Divide. American citizens are disunited based on issues of identity. With this divide, inequality has become an increasing issue, but strong individuals are unifying to fight for racial and gender equality. Many concerned individuals are fighting for equal opportunity in American society because our divided country allows some people to advance while others are held back.
