Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is 100% wrong and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” These pro-life believers do not support the idea of abortion and believe it should be illegal. Many of these supporters do not know that if abortion were illegal they would still be performed, unfortunately by an uneducated staff. Over 70 thousand maternal deaths occur every year because of unsafe abortions. These women die, so the idea of supporting pro-life is contradictory, this is why the nation should be pro-choice.

Abortion is a very emotional and debatable topic that the general public deals with. It is so debatable because there are so many unanswered questions that surround the subject. When is a baby actually considered to be “born”? Is abortion actually considered to be murder? Should the procedure be legal? At what stage during pregnancy is a fetus considered to be alive? One of the most important questions that relate to the subject is whether or not parents should have the right to consent to whether or not their daughter (who must be a minor) can have an abortion. The two articles, “Parental Consent Laws are Necessary” by Michael New and “Parental Consent Laws Are Unnecessary” by Diana Phillip are identical in topic but also have many distinct differences pertaining to whether or not a parent should consent to the abortion of a minor.

Abortion is a very popular topic; multiple people disagree on things like abortion and whether it should be legal. Many people today get their news and knowledge on today’s problems from social media and because of this, many ideas and facts are changed or different from what was originally said or done. For example, the percent of abortions for different cases can differ from the source, such as websites or news stations. Based on different beliefs and situations some people believe abortion is alright, but it is not and should be illegal or only accessible in extreme scenarios.

One argument against these involvement laws involves a person’s right to choose the fate of their own body. Of course for a minor this right is limited due to the current laws in this country. But parental involvement laws can be used for the basic purpose of forcing a young woman to continue with an unwanted pregnancy.(Net 1) This and other unacceptable outcomes disproves the reasoning that a parent must be aware of their minor’s abortion, if not in complete control of it. Parental knowledge, just as pregnancy, is a choice to be made by the individual who has the most at stake; the young girl who lives in fear and confusion due to the uncertainty of her parents reactions. Also whether or not these reactions compromise her safety mentally, emotionally, and physically.(Net 1) In the event that parental involvement laws are overturned by all courts, both federal and local, young minor’s can safely make their own choices where pregnancy is concerned. In fact studies show that, with or with out these laws, 61% of minors inform their parents of their abortion before the procedure.(Net 3) In the issue of choice, these laws put undue stress and strain on the young woman who’s future is at stake.

Although abortions have been in existence for many years, each culture has its own distinctive views and interpretations regarding abortions. Since the beginning of time, numerous women all around the world have terminated their pregnancy by having a planned induced abortion. Sometimes the execution of abortion procedures is based on ethical decisions, religious views, and at other times, the decisions are solely based on the individual mothers-to-be culture. The United States, however, has numerous views that are completely different from those in other countries. This essay will review the legislative activity regarding abortions from the past forty-two years to the present, more specifically, it will discuss the recent controversies of minors having induced abortions without parental consent.

However, many studies have shown that when abortions become more available, the abortion rate does not necessarily increase. However, for many girls abortion is not even an option. Often abortions go against a girl's religious or personal beliefs, or they do not feel they have the means to pay for an abortion. In these cases, a girl who does not want her baby will give it up for adoption. Although this appears to be a logical choice for a pregnant teen to make, it is one that comes with much suffering and heartache. While teenage mothers are the source of most babies that are adopted, every year out of one-hundred babies they give birth to, less than five are given up for adoption (Guernsey 41). That same night this man rapes and sexually abuses you. Later on, you find out that you are pregnant by this man and you don't want to keep it, but everyone around you is telling you that you shouldn't get an abortion because you would then be labeled as killing your child.
