Persuasive Essay On Global Warming

The increasing severity and frequency of climate change impacts calls for an immediate need to alter the way we conceive and respond to developing issues. Challenges such as war and financial recessions tend to be relatively short, over in less than ten years. Election cycles and national plans are usually over in less than five. By contrast, climate change and its impacts are set to progressively and noticeably worsen over the next twenty years and accelerate catastrophically into the final half of this century and beyond. Unless measures are put in place over the near term. We must pro-actively consider climate change problems in the long-term and find sustainable solutions that will help vulnerable populations adapt to unavoidable impact while advocating for global changes needed to slow climate change’s pace.

One of the most hotly debated topics of the century has without a doubt been global warming. With all the issues going on in the world today one may assume this problem would not be at the forefront of America's mind, but in fact the exact opposite is true. Global warming is such a controversial topic due to many diverse reasons. For one, it is still queried whether or not an earth-wide warming is actually occurring. This is where much of the debate arises from, but individuals also want to know what our effect truly has been on the planet and what can be done pertaining to the issue. If global warming is happening and our earth is winding down, as dwellers on this planet we all desire to find a way to stop such a catastrophic decline.

For hundreds of years, the human race has been polluting the earth with fossil fuels and excess waste. The longer we abuse our planet, the less time we will have on it. Climate change has been identified as a legitimate hindrance to the longevity of the human race. The world's temperature and water levels are rising. The findings about climate change have important implications for the broader domain of the world. If we don't change our ways, the world as we know it will cease to exist.

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), climate change is a change in the usual weather found in a place and is applied to measure each places weather patterns; the combination and average of each individual climate equates to the Earth's climate which is recorded and analyzed to detect notable deviations. Amusingly, when challenged with the discussion of human behavior and activity and climate change, many skeptics will rely on the conventional wisdom that reduces climate change to a an unmeasurable theory or a hoax perpetrated by the elite or better yet, the Chinese, to eliminate competition among the worlds top economic superpowers. In essence, climate change has been researched and peer reviewed by thousands of climate scientists who most certainly carefully conducted their research with methods such as positivism and empiricism which was then followed by the consensus of 97% (or more) of climate scientists that human induced climate change is unmistakably real.

As a child, I always dreamed of living somewhere cold-- somewhere that would snow on Christmas day, allow my family and I to ice skate during the colder season, snuggle deep down in a blanket with hot chocolate and let me live my Hallmark aspirations. However, when I asked my dear friend in Ohio what the weather was like up North several Autumns ago, I received a frightening answer-- the same temperature in Louisiana. In that moment, it hit me: there was a problem halting my pursuit of happiness and it’s infamously known as global warming. So, from that day on, I began to consider how this major problem could easily be fixed.

Society should be educated about the causes of global warming due to the way people are treating the environment. According to a continuous study done by N.A.S.A. the Earth’s global temperature has risen by 0.8 degrees Celsius, 1.4 if converted into degrees Fahrenheit, since the year 1880. Currently sitting at 14.82 degrees Celsius, predicted to rise another 6.4 degrees Celsius during the 21st century, human activities continue to add carbon dioxide into the air. Global energy all depends on how much is radiated from the sun and how much is released back into outer space. When humans over produce CO2 some of the energy is unable to escape, causing a greenhouse effect continually heating the globe. Global Warming, also known as the Greenhouse effect, is a problem everyone will soon have to face.

What is global warming and what is it doing to our planet? One major problem today is global warming and how it will affect our future if we don’t do something but we can start today. Global warming (also known as climate change) is when there is a great increase in temperature. Some activity that can happen if we don’t do something is that sea levels will rise and the chance of coastal flooding will increase. There can also be more destructive hurricanes, more frequent and intense heat waves, greater risk of health, extreme weather like more snow, greater precipitation, more droughts, a decrease in the production of our food, melting ice which will lead to the increase in sea levels, and also the seasons could change. There are many things we can do to prevent this from happening, we just need to act fast.

One of the most heated topics in not only the United States, but the world is whether or not global warming is real or a hoax. You can go out into the world and see some people and companies making an attempt to reduce their global footprints. You can also go out and see people and companies thinking nothing of it and continuing their horrid carbon footprints. The world needs to see the facts behind global warming and how we need to start doing something about it. The facts behind global warming outweigh the opposition’s points. The reasons you should support the belief of global warming are that temperatures are rising, sea levels are rising and glaciers are melting. The opposition believes that this is all the natural process of earth. Well most scientists disagree and so do I.

In the 21st century, we can only see that there are many technological advancements in this world; however, we have neglected that there are many problems which are changing the world eventually. Why do you think that there is melting of Arctic ice at the north pole? Why do you think that you keep blaming that the weather is becoming hotter and hotter every day? This is because of global warming. Global warming is a phenomenon of a gradual increase in the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect. Global warming happens due to the collision between the greenhouse gases and the layer of atmosphere and this collision causes the Earth to heat up drastically. For example, the global average temperature has increased 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit for the past 130 years. Global warming is still happening today and it will become more serious if we do not stop it now.

People are the ultimate problem. There are 7.5 billion people on the planet. As the population increases more and more every day, so does the consumption of natural resources. Ever since the first bacteria that was able to breathe air, no living thing has ever affected Earth as much as humans have. By increasing the carbon in Earth’s atmosphere with pollution and decreasing carbon sinks from deforestation, humanity is changing the climate.Today the Earth has the highest CO2 concentration in the atmosphere.The atmosphere has more CO2 than it has had in the past 800,000 years. Through the burning of fossil fuels, land use, and waste combined humans have released about 2,000 gigatons of CO2 into the atmosphere. Earth is warming ten times faster than at the end of an ice age. In an interview John Farley, he said “quote about making the drain smaller” proving that there are some small things Americans can do to change the drain size. Last time the CO2 levels were this high, the sea level was 20 to 30 feet higher. Despite all the evidence, a large chunk of the U.S. population refuses to accept that global warming is real. Public awareness is an important component of an effective response to climate change. While the world might not be able to pull a complete turnaround any time soon, the human race can work on changing the little things that make a big difference. Certain things released into the atmosphere such as greenhouse gasses are causing fresh water reserves in glaciers to melt, the climate to change and much more. The human race plays a vital factor to the death of this planet everyday due to our thoughtless attitude towards nature. Global warming is a massive problem in our generation and we need to stop contributing to it.

Earth’s climate is always changing but in the past 50 years, it has changed more than ever , having the global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history. Polar bears live on sea ice for survival and hunts on seals. Intense warming of the climate has caused the sea ice to melt, leaving the population without habitats and making them more likely to be hunted.
