A young girl is walking down the street with their little brother, talking about how their day went when a bullet hits him with no warning. Time freezes as her favorite person in the world is laying on the ground in a pool of their own blood. “Everyday 95 people die from this violence and 549,380 acts of gun violence occur each year” (Sandy Hook). Guns in America are easily obtained by those who use them for violence. Therefore, the U.S. should determine a better solution for gun control to provide safety for citizens, whether it be to determine who should be able to own a gun, advance the knowledge on gun safety or increase mental health awareness.
Certain laws need to be introduced in order for gun violence to be prevented. The Second Amendment is a law put into place to provide americans with the right to own a gun but if well regulated. Gopnik in October of 2015 explained, “if the Founders hadn’t wanted guns to be regulated, and thoroughly, they would not have put the phrase “well regulated” in the amendment” (Gopnik). Although, it is our 2nd amendment right to bear arms in the US, the government needs to enforce stricter gun control laws and increase regulation our founding fathers insisted on. While gun control, in moderation, is a step in the right direction, it is not a final answer to the problem and must be expounded upon. More laws need to be put into office in order for safety to be ensured amongst civilians. These laws could be as simple as increased
Gun violence has been a hot topic these past years. Guns are being used for crime rather than for safety. Every person holds a different opinion on how guns should be managed. Some say that gun laws should be stricter: others say that the laws already in place have enough control over the people. With the rise of gun violence people are wondering what the future will hold. On average, 90 people die from gun violence every single day (Brady Campaign). That means that in a year, at least 32,850 people die from acts of gun violence. Whatever our government has done to stop gun violence is not working. Gun related crimes have reached an all- time high. The nation is waiting for a solution to this ongoing phenomenon. Now is the time for new or upgraded gun policies
We all love power don’t we? We love to bring each other down, we love to steal, and most importantly show that we are better than each other. That is why guns were invented in the first place: To show dominance over one and another, to show that I have the right to kill you with this gun because I have the authority, so therefore, I decide when the bullet comes out, I decide who to kill and who to blame it for. Imagine yourself sitting down to a student in your class who brings a gun, which is legalized, because he felt violated by his professor and shoots him right between the eyes. Why? because he was given a grade that he did not expect to receive on the paper he wrote about the legalization of marijuana. The Texas state legislature recently introduced a bill that would allow students to carry concealed firearms on college campuses. With broad support in both the House and the Senate, the bill is soon to become law soon, and Texan students will then be able to bring their guns to class. According to the article, “Gun Control Facts,“ by James D Agresti and Reid K. Smith, based on production data from firearms manufacturers, there are roughly 300 million firearms owned by civilians in the Unites States as of 2010. Of these, about 100 are handguns.” I never personally liked guns; what is so right about this piece of machinery for which people are willing to put their lives in danger? This is a question of rightness, morality, and value that should be essentially addressed today. No matter how popular guns become there is no need for them in our holy learning environments.
In most recent years one of the biggest political arguments has been about firearms. When talking about firearms both sides can get very into the disagreement and emotional on the subject. With the increasing amounts of mass shootings, this topic has been in mainstream media and talked about largely for the better half of the last six years. When it comes to the argument the democratic party stands on stronger gun laws that will lead to more regulations and less gun sales, while the republican party leans the other way with less regulation and more legal gun owners. The democrats say that the less guns on the street, the less gun violent related crimes. On the other hand the republican’s stand for more legal gun owners, the fewer victims there are. One of the topics that gets brushed under the rug is, concealed carry permits, while it is talked about, it does not get near the press the other topics do. With the Untied States having the largest amount concealed permit holders there should be more of a conversation.
In the United States, thirty-three thousand people die each year from gun violence. Roughly two-thirds of those gun deaths are from suicide, and the remaining are from homicides. The vast majority of the country believes in stricter gun control; for a number of reasons, Congress can’t pass gun control laws. Rather than focusing on the weapon and stricter background checks, focus on the ammunition instead. Metal bullets are unnecessary and overpowered – you only need them when you have the intent to kill. We should ban metal ammunition for civilians and move to non-lethal ammunition.
October 1, 2017 marked the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. With almost 500 injured and 58 killed, not only did Las Vegas feel the tragedy of a personal loss, but the incident had rippling effects that shook all of America (Flaherty). With the fresh wounds of the recent Las Vegas shooting, the politician's initial reaction is to implement more strict gun restrictions and "lay down the law" to prevent a similar event from happening again. Due to the drastic laws being carried out, the topic of gun control is a current issue in society. Is the solution to carry out more firm restrictions on gun ownership or can the government allow the people to be their own advocates? While the opposing views of pro-gun restrictions argue that is up to the discretion of the government, they are often narrow-minded resolutions with no hope of finding a real solution. The Las Vegas shooter acquired his guns legally and passed all background checks, going unnoticed until his plan unfolded. Establishing more strict firearm restrictions would not have stopped the Las Vegas shooting from occurring. The number of gun restrictions cannot increase. Instead, the government needs to either fix the existing laws or do away with gun restrictions entirely. Gun restrictions are not the solution because guns are not doing the killing--people are;, the laws only attack the law-abiding citizens and the gun restrictions add another infringed upon right that the government controls. While voting against
In the past 20 years, the number of mass shootings and killings has increased dramatically. The Democratic Party’s proposal of gun control and stricter gun laws is not going to solve any key issues regarding these shootings. They have tried to introduce policies to make the sale of military style weapons, such as the AR-15 and other assault weapons illegal to purchase in some states and harder to obtain in others. Some politicians are going as far as trying to disarm every citizen in America. The proposal of gun control and disarming America will not end the increasing problem of mass shootings and killings in the United States. Getting rid of gun free zones and encouraging citizens to carry firearms is a practical solution to help control mass shootings and reduce the substantial amounts of lives being lost each year.
On December 12, 2012, around 9:45, six adults and twenty children suffered a tragic death when twenty-year-old Adam Lanza killed them. This shooting sparked the debate on the issue of gun control. In current years gun violence has multiplied considerably in various parts of the world. There are greater cases of kids and teens engaging in violence or getting caught in the crossfire. There have been debates over whether gun legal guidelines are strict and what else can be accomplished to lessen such acts from taking place. With greater lives being affected on an ordinary basis, extra concerns stand up as to how human beings can stay secure when weapons are being used in growing numbers. It's far shameful to say that nearly each day you listen to some sort of gun violence affecting humans either in your native land or in any other part of the world.
Guns are the leading cause of death in America and on average, there is more than one mass shooting for each day yet only five states have gun regulations such as assault weapons ban, high-capacity magazines ban, prohibitions for high-risk individuals, prohibitions for individuals with domestic violence convictions and mandatory universal background checks. in America. Gun regulation is a controversial topic in America because it is one of the few countries in the world where the right to bear arms is constitutionally protected. There is a lack of regulation in America is because of the politics that lies underneath all the objections against having reasonable gun regulations. American politics often rely on corporations and when it comes to gun regulations, policies depend on what organizations like the National Firearms Association feel about the policy. In reality, a majority of Americans believe that there should be some form of regulation that will prevent dangerous individuals from purchasing firearms. Despite what conservative media outlets will have you believe, when it comes to firearms, laws, and regulations are there to keep the citizens safe.
Gun control is an important topic of discussion stirring up controversy and debates in the United States of America today. With the increased number of shootings in the U.S, such as the Charleston church shooting in South Carolina and the elementary school shooting in Connecticut, tensions around gun control are heightened. Government officials are split on the issue, with pro-gun control politicians lobbying for legislation on firearm bans and anti-gun control officials fighting for American citizens’ Second Amendment right. The laws surrounding gun control are being taken to new extremes, even violating the Second Amendment which states,”The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (Baltzell). This country was built around freedom and inalienable rights. That is why government officials and the citizens of the United States should work together to fight the enactment of any further gun control laws as they put American citizen’s safety and rights in danger.
As the term, “gun control” is said to be a set of laws or polices that regulates the manufacture sale and transfer of firearms by civilians. With that logic, let’s visit the drawing board for gun control. Law makers continue to argue, daily, in the United States of America and one should always propose the views that the current gun control is indeed getting lot of necessary recognition in this society. Firstly, the effects that gun control has on the firearm industry, secondly the observation of the effectiveness of gun control, finally the impact that gun control has as a policy in the United States of America.
Numerous people in the United States have firearms in or around their homes. Part of these people that do not use firearms believe that there should restrictions. There should be a reduction in the usage of firearms because of the number of suicides, the death rate of children, and the benefits that can come from it.
Imagine a teenage boy named Steven. He is a star basketball player, senior class president, and always has the highest grades in all of his classes. The only fault that he has is that he lives in the absolute worst part of his town. The streets are filthy, it is dangerous to walk alone, and the housing is just barely suitable to live in. All of Steven’s friends are involved in gangs, drugs, and scamming;however,he is different. Steven works hard to pay for his family’s expenses, always does his homework, and never gets into trouble. One would imagine that his parents would be proud, but surprisingly, the reality is the opposite: Steven’s parents hate him. They feel ashamed that they have a son who “thinks he is better than them”.He has no support or backed, yet he continues to work hard. Now, imagine that Steven is about to go off to college and finally get away from the wrong side of the tracks. He has saved up just enough money to attend his local community college and live on campus. Just as he is about to leave, he receives a call from his mother saying that his father has been convicted for possession of an unlicensed firearm. Subsequently, Steven’s mother is left alone with no income and four young children to feed. Therefore, he must stay to take care of them, effectively trapping him in his neighborhood for a minimum of two more years and a thousand dollars in debt. As a result, he ends up joining a gang to earn enough money to pay his father’s debt. Steven’s story is
The number of gun related deaths in the US today is very high. Each day on average 13 children under the age of 19 are killed by gunfire and more are injured. Homicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ranging from 10-19 years in age. This has led some people to argue that gun ownership must be strictly regulated so as to reduce this serious loss of life. On the contrary, some are against this argument saying that people should freely own arms because the second amendment decrees the right to bear arms. For instance, the National Rifle Association (NRA) have argued that guns don't kill. It is people who kill. There will be less violent deaths if people were allowed to own guns to protect themselves. They have proposed a mandatory sentence for those who commit crimes with firearms.
This article was written approximately a week after the tragedy that occurred in Las Vegas. For those who have yet to be informed of what occurred, in short, a believed-to-be-lone gunman opened fire on approximately 22,000 people in attendance of the Route 91 Harvest Music festival, killing 59 individuals and wounding around 530. This act of terrorism, as with most atrocities that include the use of firearms, led to a debate regarding gun control. We now know that the shooter has modified his weapon using a device known as a “Bump Stock” which allows semi-automatic weapons to operate as if fully automatic while still retaining the weapons one bullet per pull operation of the weapon. This modifier was given the ability to be sold under Obama’s administration. The biggest topic of discussion to come from Capitol Hill has been the discussion of regulating these “bump stocks” as currently anyone can purchase them and not need to register them. Senator Dianne Feinstein has pushed for a bill to outright ban them. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, a victim of the attacks on the annual congressional baseball game, has called for legislators to investigate and become informed before simply banning them or placing regulations that would’ve have been founded on close to no evidence. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan seems to support this statement through his quote “So I think we’re quickly coming up to speed with what this is. Fully automatic weapons have been banned for a long time.
Gun control is a very controversial topic especially with all of the violent attacks against people by people who believe they are the dominant over everyone else. Our society is becoming a place where the people feel as if their freedom of the right to bear arms is being threatened. If a person was to set a gun on the table would it kill the other person standing across from them? No. Although guns are a main factor contributing to the most recent deaths by people who are depressed or law biting citizens who are trying to protect themselves, would stricter regulations interfere with everyone’s right to bear arms or would it decrease these deaths?
