Have you ever wondered when and why marijuana was made illegal? The herbal plant, commonly used in medicines, was not considered a drug in the early 1900s. “Weed is addictive and is gateway drug. You shouldn’t smoke it.” This is a common misconception about Marijuana that a variety of people believe. This is because they do not know the history of it and what is in the Marijuana that makes it, what people say is “addictive.” They also probably do not know that there are disadvantages and advantages of using Marijuana. A very common argument is whether or not medical marijuana should be legal throughout our country. As some states choose to be legal, more research is being done to show the impact that it is made. Many worry that it will do more damage than good, giving people to opportunity to abuse it. What we need to be paying attention to is the effect it has on people with diseases, the money involved, and whether or not it is proving itself. I will argue that medical marijuana should become legal in all states of the United States of America.
In a few states including Maine has passed a law making the use of recreational marijuana acceptable. Although marijuana is legal in Maine the use of marijuana is still federally illegal. There already seems like there could be trouble, right? Well this is only one of many problems resulting from the “Yes” vote for the marijuana referendum. Police are servilely impacted when something is legal from a state law but the federal government say it is still not acceptable.

When in reality marijuana is a medicine, which has been proven be doctors and researchers, especially in small countries. Marijuana help those who use it with chronic pains and illnesses. Medical marijuana is helpful to individuals with severe chronic pain and comes from a natural growing plant. Marijuana should be a medical option because the benefits of marijuana greatly overwhelm those that oppose to the drug.
For some medical marijuana looks like a horrible thing, but for people with certain diseases and illness it is a miracle worker. The marijuana has been used since ancient china as a medicine. Not just for medical use but for other uses hemp and marijuana have some key materials and things made from them. Medical marijuana uses the whole plant for different products. In recent years, several states such as California have passed laws that make it legal to use marijuana for medicinal purposes. Legal changes about the medicinal use of marijuana have been accompanied by vigorous debate. Advocates tout that marijuana has allowed new avenues to mitigate medical problems such as anxiety, depression and Alzheimer. However, Opponents argue that marijuana does more harm than good, is mainly used recreationally instead of their intended purposes. Driving home one day Bill, a truck driver and father of four kids got pulled over by the local sheriff. After smelling hints of marijuana escaping his truck the officer asked Bill to step out of the truck for him to search. Five minutes later after tearing thru everything in Bill’s truck, he finally finds trace amount of marijuana left in his ashtray. He immediately gets cuffed and brought into jail only to later find out that he wasn’t going home anytime soon. Because of Bill’s small previous traffic violations that added together with the marijuana charge Bill is sentenced to thirteen years in prison and is forced to miss seeing his kids grow up. “Outrageously long sentences are only part of the story. The hundreds of thousands of people who are arrested each year but do not go to jail also suffer; their arrests stay on their records for years, crippling their prospects for jobs, loans, housing and benefits” (Wegan, par 4). Marijuana should be legalized because the government would increase in tax revenue and job opportunities, focus on more violent crimes, and regulating marijuana would make people more aware of the contents.
