Kneeling The President tweets; Trump, Donald (realDonaldTrump) “The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race. It is about respect for our Country, Flag and National Anthem. NFL must respect this!” September 17, 2017, 7:39 a.m. This is what most of his followers think as well. For almost all Americans the flag is a representation of freedom and a united country. To some Americans it’s also a representation of what the military has sacrificed for our freedom. When the football players kneel, some Americans believe they are disrespecting the military and the country. To others it the military has very little connection to the flag. Racial injustice has been a very large part of the past 200 years in America. There have been many incidents recently where unarmed black men are being killed by police. Police brutality has become an issue in the inner cities of America and has been coming to the media more recently. The football players want to speak for those who don’t have a large voice. They’re trying to help reduce the amount of racism in this country by bringing awareness. African Americans have had to deal with racism in this country for a long time. After the Civil Rights Act of 1964, African Americans in this country knew they still had to keep fighting. After the Civil Rights act in the 1960s African Americans still were discriminated against in almost every aspect of society. Many were unable to get a job because many businesses would not hire them because of
Police brutality is a very widespread topic through all religions, all kinds of different cultures and all races. People believe that police officers use their powers and their badge to hold them to a higher standard then the average civilian. I belief that its all up to interpretation and the many experiences we go through that define a bad cop from a good one. If we judge all police officers from one bad cop how do we expect to change? Its a never ending cycle that has to change and heres some examples on how we can do so.
The United States of America has many horrible police officers. This has created a stereotype that all police officers are terrible. One of the main reasons police officers have been target lately is, because many innocent people are harassed by them daily. There are multiple ways to classify these police officers as horrible being, but police brutality, corruption, and how they handle violent protest are three of many classifications.
Recently, our country has undergone tremendous suffering due to police brutality. Some police officers are taking the law into their own hands and intertwining their personal views and stereotypes on the black community. They are committing inhumane crimes on African Americans and our justice system is allowing it to continue. Several police officers are noticing that if they commit this crime out of pure hate it is acceptable and the courts will rule in their favor. It continues to happen because there is no punishment for their wrong doing.
Although I should know by now, I cannot help but think that there has been an overwhelming amount of police brutality in recent years. Police brutality can be defined as, when a police officer uses more force than necessary. This issue has spread throughout the United States of America, and is putting the lives of our citizens in great danger. Police brutality is not only physical, but it can also be verbal attacks; and, in most cases, it is caused by false arrest and racial profiling due to police corruption. Police brutality has been and continues to be a major concern in society and it is used very loosely to any and all forms of police misconduct. Whereas, in reality, excessive force of police misconduct is what defines police brutality. The jobs of a police officer are too calmly resolve public disturbance and disputes. Police officers are supposed to protect citizens; instead they are hurting and using excessive force. It is not right and it is unjust for a police officer to hurt a citizen due to an assumption without any actual proof of criminal activity.
This act of kneeling down should be considered as an act of patriotic criticism, rather than a betrayal of the nation. After all, patriotism does not mean that we should love and support everything that the government conducts, but rather we should criticize for the greater good of the government, so that it could improve. Government could only improve, if they can hear the voice from the people. Only after accepting the criticism can one improve. Therefore, the focus of such protest in the NFL should be why they protested, instead of the act of protesting. After all,

Police brutality refers to the intentional use of verbal or physical attacks directed towards individuals by the police force that result in false arrests, sexual abuse, or death. (Dudley, William 13.) Most of these actions are linked to racial profiling: the targeting of individuals for suspicion of crime based solely on the individual’s race, ethnicity, religion, or national origin. Statistics about how often racial profiling and police brutality occurs, movements such as Black Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter, and police reform efforts are just a few points as to why this topic is so controversial today.
Right now in the NFL the football teams are kneeling for the National Anthem. This all started with Colin Kaepernick protesting the police and the inequality that people of color in the United States in August of 2016. The players are protesting the injustices people of color still face in America today. The message that the players are trying to send has been misunderstood. Some have said that the players are attempting to disrespect the country, national anthem, flag, and military by taking a knee this is incorrect. Part of this confusion came from initial misunderstanding, then it grew even greater when Trump spoke at his rally in Alabama. If you ask many of the kneelers why they are kneeling they would tell you its because they believe the flag symbols racial inequality and bigotry and they don’t want to stand for that. However, that is no where close to what the American flag stands for. The flag and Star Spangled Banner symbolize courage, hope, and compassion. Many men and women of all colors have fought to give us our freedoms. And many have died to give me and you the freedoms and lives we have today. The professional athletes that kneel need to think through the fact that our soldiers have fought and some died to give these athletes the ability to play a game and make millions of dollars. And these soldiers have families just like everyone else and these families give up more then we will ever know, many not knowing if their family member will come back alive. Everyone, not just athletes, should be eternally grateful to these men, women, and families who have served our country and the least we can do is stand and respect the flag and national anthem (Deasey). According to the Constitution, Americans have the right to free speech and to protest. Athletes and public figures are not excused just because they have fame. In fact, we should be looking to them to speak out against the negativity in society. A great amount of people are arguing that this act of protesting is disrespectful, not only to those who fought for our country, but they are choosing to ignore the message. Tony Cladwell from New York Times writes, “Every knee on the ground today represents thousands of Black men that are being treated unfairly, discriminated against, beaten, falsely accused, unfairly tried, unfairly sentenced, and murdered by police violence and the systemic abuses of the U.S justice system, not just historically, but also RIGHT NOW.” And he is absolutely right. How can we trust the ones that’s killing us? Law enforcement and police officers play a major role in our community. They help those in need & keep us safe. Nationwide they also kill an average of 3 people every day. I thought whenever you become an officer, you have sworn to protect us. Police brutality is a major issue in our society today. Police work is dangerous. In the past, police officers were considered peacekeepers. Police have been occupied in shootings, severe beatings, and unnecessarily rough treatments to our people instead of focusing on protecting us. Racism has always been the main cause of police brutality. Black men are constantly harassed by the police and routinely brutalized even when they have done nothing wrong.
The United States was founded in 1776 and founded on the fact is was a free nation that welcomed all to come and join the democracy. We know this not to be true. The free nation was more of an idea than a fact. Freedom was for white men who owned land, does not sound very free to me. Slavery was still legal until 1865 with the 13th amendment. Even then it was still legal if it is “a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted” (“13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution”). This mean prisoners can be used as “slaves”. This was famously seen in the film “Shawshank Redemption”. Another example is the mistreatment of minorities by police officers. Whether it is harassment or even murder, minorities are treated much worse by them. “An analysis of public records, local news reports and Guardian reporting found that 32% of black people killed by police in 2015 were unarmed, as were 25% of Hispanic and Latino people, compared with 15% of white people killed.” (Swaine, Jon, Oliver Laughland, and Jamiles Lartey, “Black Americans killed by police twice as likely to be unarmed as white people”). Although the U.S. government is supposed provide freedom, it does oppress certain groups of its citizens.

Police brutality is in many countries all over the world and especially in the news. It is a form of police misconduct which involves sexual abuse, police corruption, false arrests, racial profiling, and political repression.These forms of police brutality are mainly directed towards the groups such as the poor, the weak and the elderly. Most of these police brutality actions are always linked to racism. Police brutality violates the suspect's constitutional rights and it should be stopped.
There have been many debates about police brutality. One argument suggests that the police use appropriate force since they are dealing with criminals, while minorities believe that the police abuse their power. African Americans are portrayed as violent criminals and their criminal backgrounds are used against them, while the police use their position to go around the criminal justice system. We're a nation that heavily believes in the ideals of equality, and by not addressing the issue of police brutality in our government, our government will become disorderly. The 14th Amendment states “...nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” This means that states must apply the law equally to everyone and cannot discriminate against anyone because of their race. The idea of equality, equal protection under the law and equal opportunity, is an ideal solely found in America. However, by having the contradiction of a police force that uses underhanded tactics to suppress another race we don’t live up to our country’s promise.

For personal enjoyment or a personal vendetta. Some states have the “Stand-Your-Ground” laws, which allows innocent citizens the right to use deadly force to defend and protect themselves.
