People are adopting pit bulls from Craigslist and Facebook to have them put down or dropped off at a kill shelter because they are trying to eliminate the breed. They are doing this since they believe pit bulls are dangerous naturally, but all dogs have the potential to be dangerous and attack humans, not just pit bulls. How a dog acts depends on how it was treated or trained by the owner, not the breed they are. Pit bulls have a poor reputation which is a result of what people train them for, dog fights. So rather than trying to eliminate the breed, why not deal with the owners of violent pit bulls? The dogs are not to blame, so they shouldn’t be punished for the actions of their owners since there is no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad …show more content…
And if these people try to bring the dog to be put down, the vet should have the ability to remove the dog from their possession if it is in perfect health and if the person who brought it in doesn’t have a liable reason to have it be put down, the vet should also be able to turn them in. Also, if they are dropped off at a kill shelter, the police should start monitoring security footage and ask these people why they dropped the dog off, if they have no believable reason or evidence the dog was ever living there then they should be arrested and the dog removed from the shelter to a better place. Society should treat these people like they do sex offenders, they should receive the same punishment and label as the offenders on their record so they can never come near another animal and if they try they will be punished. The law needs to stop these people before anymore innocent dogs are killed for the actions of humans to others of their
Specific Purpose: I will persuade my audience that pit bulls are not a dangerous breed by nature.
When you see a Pit Bull, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? More times than not, it’s fear. But what comes to my mind is that this is my favorite kind of dog, and that it is very misunderstood and stereotyped by most people thanks to all the negative media. That’s why I’m writing about the truths regarding the American Pit Bull Terrier. They are always talked about as being very aggressive and vicious breed, but in fact they are a gentle companion. I would like to convince the people of Farmers Branch, Texas, that Pit Bull’s deserve to be considered as family pets.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to petition against Maryland’s law to identify “Pit Bulls” as a dangerous breed of dog.
These dogs do not deserve the treatment the are being given. In 1996 the odds of dying in a dog attack was one in 11,534,087 (Delise 100). The latest statics of dying in a dog attack was in 2005 and it was one in 147,717 (Britt). The only reason the odds are up is the increase in population. Another reason is the amount of damage that happens, Dr. Sandi Sawchuk said “...If someone did the same research on Chihuahuas, they would probably find that there are more bites, but they’re less reported due to insignificant damage” (Pisani). Dr. James Serpell and friends did that exact test and found that smaller dogs tend to show more aggression towards humans. Ninety-three percent of Pit Bulls are being euthanized before even being put up for adoption,
Imagine being locked and crammed into a small cage that is never cleaned, with hardly no food and water, little to no attention or exercise, and being outside in the heat all summer and the cold all winter. As awful as this all sounds, these are the horrific conditions puppies experience while at puppy mills. This is why we need to raise awareness to the fact that puppy mills should be banned.
In this collage it hits the heart of a problem that has not really being acknowledge as a problem since the subject is about pit bulls. Which if any one utter the word “pit” and ends in “bull” everyone, has a fear right after, or just anger towards the dog. Many emotions are mixed with the pit bull terrier breed, it is divided 50/50 of good or bad emotions that can effect ones perception of the animal. The college has gripping imagery, and quotes that are to help make the issues aware on what exactly are happening to the dogs. Going deeper into the issues of dog fighting the after effects it has on the pit bulls to the misconceptions opposed to facts, and lastly the breed specific ban of the breed that is are deeming pit bulls not worthy of
Do you think pit bulls should be banned? People seem to think that pit bulls should be banned because of their “violent” nature. However I think otherwise. People should be able to own a pit bull because they are not the only breed that bites, their personality depends on how they were raised, and many innocent pit bulls will be seized and killed.
I’m going to start off with a question: how many of you guys have a dog? Well imagine if one day a dog, the same breed as your dog, attacked and killed a person, and now that breed is banned in your state or city. Well that is what is happening in the U.S and Canada at the moment. There is a legislation called Breed-Specific Legislation, or BSL, that on the federal, state, or municipal level can outright ban or restrict specific named breeds of dog, and currently, this legislation is targeted towards pit bulls. The reason you guys should care is because, every year in the U.S alone, 3.9 million dogs are euthanized, of those 3.9 million, 1 million are pit bulls, that’s roughly 2,800 pit bulls put down per day. If some of you own a pit bull or
More times than not- pit bulls are falsely seen as cruel, ferocious, blood thirsty animals. The media is partially to blame for evoking all of this fear and anxiety. All I can say is, own one before you judge one! I have been a proud owner of two pit bulls for over eight years now and I have nothing but fun, loving times to report about these cuddling beasts.
It is just so disrespectful that people want to ban pit bulls because they can be vicious,at some point the have harmed people, but no they still can be pets. Have you ever heard of pet trainer that help you pet to behave better. Think about losing a man’s,or your best friend. How could people just be like that,”No I don’t want that dog because it bits, harms and maybe can kill people.”My dog bit, scratched me,and even peed on me,maybe you should just ban my dog. Plus maybe the person who gotten attacked before by a pit bull was doing something to it,or maybe it was on an accident.
After evaluating the results from the survey and interview, many things were considered. For example, majority of the results from the survey leaned more in favor of Pit Bulls rather than against. Majority of the respondents believed Pit Bulls should not be banned from communities and the majority of respondents would own Pit Bulls. Majority of adjectives used to describe Pit Bulls were positive. Overall, most of the participants viewed Pit Bulls in a positive light. However, it was assumed that the results would have been skewed in the other direction, mostly negative.
Dogs are often known as “Man's best friend” and come to find out it is true. As my dog who I received as a Christmas presents in 2011 turned out to be my best friend who helped me survive high school and now on to college. Hes name is Beast and he is a very caring, playable, friendly, and most of all loyal dog, and yes he is a bulldog/pitbull mix. I would've loved to bring him here to Tucson with me, but I live in an area where the pitbull breed is prohibited and are labelled as “Dangerous dogs”. Which is understandable as pit bulls are very protective of their owners, yet I do not believe that they are dangerous dogs due to the love that have for their owners. As pit bulls are not so friendly when it comes to their kind, but it is a different story with humans as they display characteristics of being playful, and caring. So although pit bulls can be aggressive they should not be banned from communities In Tucson due to bad stereotypes, bad owners, and the experiences I shared with my pitbulls.
Big. Scary. Mean. Viscious. Aggressive. When adopting a dog, whether it be the first or the tenth time, these are characteristics we, as owners, tend to stray away from. Unfortunately, when thinking of these attributes, one breed in particular comes to mind almost immediately. Pit bulls. The most fearsome dog of them all. According to Lisa M. Gunter et al, “[a]round 83.3 million dogs live in human households in the United States with approximately 20% of these dogs having been adopted from animal shelters” (Gunter et al). Living in a nation that has more animal shelters than shelters for, let’s say, battered women and children, it is clear how much we value canines and their well being. But out of all these dogs that we seem to love and care for, I can’t help but notice the extreme surplus of pit bulls in animal shelters all over the country. So why, I ask myself, are these dogs not being adopted? Why do we deem them unfit to hold a position of a household and family pet?
I myself am a dog lover. I have a dog. I’ve owned one all my life. I understand the attachment that comes with having a pet. I can understand why Pit bull owners feel the need to defend their dogs. They love and trust their dogs because the dog has always been gentle with them. However, they are wrong in believing that their Pit bulls wouldn’t ever turn on them. Every article you read about a Pit bull attack there is sure to be a Pit bull owner ready to shame the media for giving the breed a bad name. Their argument? Blame the owner
By the title you can tell this is a very touchy subject to many people not only in Ottawa but around the globe. I myself do not believe that a dog or any animal should ever be put down due to them biting a human or any other reason. I say this as I don’t believe humans should be put death if they have been convicted of killing another human ( the death penalty ), I’m not saying everyone deserves a full second chance ( a freebie ) or getting off with the punishment due to the crime, But they should be compensated with whether human or animal.
