A dead man walking, but yet you have to keep on walking till you take your last breathe. Weak, unhealthy, and already a part of the deceased, you can’t end your own life and neither can your physician. My grandfather was recently in the hospital for terminal cancer with multiple lymph nodes in his throat with excruciating pain every time he coughed, I wondered why they couldn't just let him go if he was going to die soon anyways. Already dying soon, unbearable pain, and being bored counting the colorful blocks on the curtain, wouldn’t you want to go to paradise too?
Being brain, dead the doctors can “pull the plug” on the consent of the person's family. So why can’t your doctor help you to your paradise, save you from your pain, and save you the hardship of counting those blocks living off the machine? Brain dead is the same as dead. “While many believe that death does not happen until the heart stops beating and the lungs stop breathing, these functions can be maintained by machines, but the brain will not be able to do that once the machines are turned off’ ( Betancourt). Even if the brain is still active, you're still not fully living if the machine is making you carry on. Why can pulling the plug by family’s consent be legal but not asking to be put out of your misery with a physician-assisted suicide?
It’s your body you can do what you

It is the person's moral right to choose whether they can live being in agony, counting those blocks on the wall or passing on with dignity. Doctors are able to “pull the plug” so why isn't assisted suicide legal as the person is awake to make the life decision instead of the families. As family I would want my dear pop to make his own decision but he still had hope to carry on so, he did.A last resort is what euthanasia should be, not because of a bad day but for the sake of not
Most people should be able to accept that once they get to this point, these people have little to live for. Sometimes, those who are capable of communicating their desires, wish to pass on before the pain from their terminal disease starts to get too unbearable or they lose any sense of dignity they might have had. It is for the rights of those patients, that people within the assisted suicide movement are fighting for (ERGO).
The word suicide gives many people negative feelings and is a socially taboo subject. However, suicide might be beneficial to terminally ill patients. Physician- assisted suicide has been one of the most controversial modern topics. Many wonder if it is morally correct to put a terminally ill patient out of their misery. Physicians should be able to meet the requests of their terminally ill patients. Unfortunately, a physician can be doing more harm by keeping someone alive instead of letting them die peacefully. For example, an assisted suicide can bring comfort to patients. These patients are in excruciating pain and will eventually perish. The government should not be involved in such a personal decision. A physician- assisted suicide comes with many benefits for the patient. If a person is terminally ill and wants a physician assisted suicide, then they should receive one.
A. The problem here is that people are already burdened with an illness and on top of that, it is a long and painful process that they must endure.
B) According to the “ Journal of Medical Ethics” it may not be that simple to assist with
In PAS, the patient must self-administer the medications; the “assisted” portion attributes to a physician providing the medications, but the patient decides whether and when to ingest the lethal medication. Euthanasia occurs when a third party administers medication or acts directly to end the patient’s life. Euthanasia is illegal in every state, including Washington. (CNN).
Assisted Suicide/ Euthanasia is wrong and should not be allowed to be a law. Families shouldn’t have to go through that pain of their family member killing themselves because they hate the pain they are going through. The pain will go away with time and there is medicine for any kind of pain. There are some people who believe that there should be a choice for people who are in pain and they should have that choice because they want what they think is best for themselves. However, there are people who take Assisted Suicide/ Euthanasia to the extreme and people who “have pain” use it and they use it for the wrong reason. Many people don’t think this is a necessary reason for killing yourself. Studies show that there is a great amount of people who suffer from pain or depression that commit suicide(Why Assisted Suicide). Dr. Eli Robbins found that 47% of those committing suicide were diagnosed with schizophrenic panic disorders and
To fully understand the issue at hand, one must understand the various forms of euthanasia. The Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary: Tenth Edition defines euthanasia as “the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals…in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy.” Euthanasia can be either passive or active. Passive euthanasia occurs when a patient is relieved of medical treatment and is allowed to die naturally. Active euthanasia occurs when either a physician or a family member actively takes the life of the patient, perhaps through lethal injection, and eliminates a natural death process. Many people commonly use the word “euthanasia” to refer to assisted suicide. Essentially, assisted suicide is a form of active euthanasia in that a person, usually a physician, aids in the suicide of a patient.
It has been argued that for people on life support systems and people with long standing diseases causing much pain and distress, euthanasia is a better choice. It helps in relieving them from pain and misery. In cases like terminal cancers when the patient is in much pain and when people associated with them also are put through a lot of pain and misery, it is much more practical and humane to grant the person his/her wish to end his/her own life in a relatively painless and merciful way.
Many people in the world are suffering from illness that cannot be cured. They live their last days in pain and suffering wondering when and why it happened to them. Instead of suffering, many people dream of suicide to take their pain away but they know no one would understand. In very few states, it is legal for people to get assistance to put them out of their pain and suffering. It is called assisted suicide. Assisted suicide is the help from a physician to end their patients’ lives with their permission. The patient must have a terminal illness with less than six months to live to qualify. Many people are against assisted suicide because they believe that it is just a cover for murder. People should be thought of as dying with dignity
Physician assisted suicide is an act of compassion that respects patient’s choice and fulfills an obligation of non-abandonment (Sulmasy & Mueller, 2017). Death is the inevitable end of life of a person or organism. As humans, we live the best way we can and with medicine and technology, humans can live a quality and healthy life-style. However, there is no human who is supernaturally immune from diseases and accidents.
Physician-assisted suicide can be the withholding of essential care, but it can also be the administration of lethal drugs either by the patient themselves or by a medical professional to end suffering from incurable diseases (Richmond, 2014). Is it fair to make someone live in chronic pain for the rest of their life when there are options? If someone has tried all options to live and have come to terms with no more options, is it okay to help them end their life? The choices do not come easy and not everyone can make them, there are certain rules and regulations set up by the National Boards and the Supreme Court that must they must follow. These rules are in place to make sure not only the patients are safe, but the healthcare
I was eleven years old when my world crumbled to pieces as a side effect of depression. Although I was able to force myself to look happy on the outside, my depression and thoughts of suicide ate away at all the skills that allowed me to function in life. I was left unmotivated, unenergized, and wanting to disappear. Out of the 180 day school year my freshman year, I attended only 80 of those days. I was unable to live and achieve the future everyone thought I was capable of having. It took countless hours in therapy, support from teachers, counselors, and family, and a will to continue pushing forward when it seemed impossible. Yet like the lotus flower, I bloomed from the bottom of a muddy pool, breaking through the surface ready to take in the sun.
Physician assisted suicide is the humane way to let someone go. Why would anyone want to prolong a slow painful death. Heck, even animals have a form of assisted suicide except we call it “putting them to sleep”. If animals don’t have to suffer through a disease if their owners don’t want them to why can’t humans? Especially since
Attention Getter: Think about yourself or picture the one person you love with all your heart. Now imagine yourself or your love one suffering from unbearable pain or something so fatal that can’t be cured. There is no way that you or your love one could function without assistance. You or your love one feel that life has no meaning. This is real situation for so many people. These people should be able to make their own choices and have control of their own lives.
It’s essential to understand that there are a few forms of euthanasia. The first form would be DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) which translates to letting someone die. Under this circumstance we are no further helping someone who is suffering from a serious illness for the sake of mercy. DNR is mostly legal under many circumstances such as living will. This can also entail a person to refuse any further treatment toward their ailment that keeps them alive. As a result the person will eventually pass away.
