In addition, using documentation in observing children has spurred me to consider it in classrooms. My mentor and supervisor have supported me in the workplace and reflected how powerful practicum experience can be.
During my time in college, I have volunteered for flag-selling on against child abuse and this year on changing children’s future. After spending ten hours helping and representing myself, I realized that the experience was inspiring because I collected around $400. As, it will be rewarding to see the children (worldwide) can benefit from my help. I have been elected to be a student representative of the academic board as well as a position of general affairs officer in student association of my college. This is an honour for me
I am compassionate, influential, a good listener and a positive role model. I am a hard worker and show strengths when working collaboratively as a team or on my own. I also have the enthusiasm and imagination to make teaching fun and interesting. Furthermore, I am very knowledge in my field and have the confidence to share this with all members of my setting.I am currently working toward my BA in Childhood Practice. I feel this award will provide a solid foundation on which to base a postgraduate study of learning and teaching as it has encouraged me to challenge, develop and reflect on myself as a practitioner and on my values, attitudes and beliefs. It has also encouraged me to take on leadership roles through planned projects and implementing changes. This has developed my professionalism and leadership skills, which has made me a more confident worker. Participating in this course has also broadened my knowledge on local and national policies and important frameworks that underpin Childcare and Education. Whilst working towards my BA I have continually developed my organisational skills, as alongside my course I continued to work full time. In addition, I had the responsibility of running a family and home. I am sure my wealth of experience working with children has given me a positive attitude towards teaching and along with my academic background would make me a compassionate and reliable teacher, and justifies me gaining a place on the PGDE
Over the past two years (2014-2016) I have participated in the National Junior Honors Society. As a member, I commit to completing community service and to learning among my peers in order to develop into a superior leader. I have taken part in activities such as fundraisers, team building activities, and several forms of community services such as working in a soup kitchen, daycares and organizing social events. Recently, I volunteered for a week as a vendor at a temple in Tacoma, raising money for the establishment during the Cambodian New Year festival.
My keen admiration for children became one of my main passions and led me to join Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc., whose philanthropic mission focuses on children's education and literacy. Because this played such an immense factor in molding my adolescent years, I wanted to show and help children understand how essential these concepts are in life. Since August of 2010, I have volunteered countless hours at the Boys and Girls Club in Athens in hopes of reaching out to these children. Furthermore, by being apart of this sorority, I was able to provide funds to improve the instruction of children not only in the Athens community but also in third world countries through book and school supply fundraisers. I became very passionate about this organization and its beneficiaries, the main being CARE India, which focuses on providing access to essential medical and healthcare for underprivileged women and children in India. My passion for children and my country has heightened my ambition of providing reliable healthcare to individuals in
It is a great example of dedication and an exhibition of kindness for others; I feel that it is from my parents that I have learned how to exemplify it in my own life. My parents fled their homeland Nigeria to make a better life for themselves and in turn help their family. This has impacted me in that I hope to also selflessly serve and make improving the lives of others important to me. I have demonstrated this as a mentor in the University of Oklahoma Future Health Scientists Program, and through my involvement in student government, HOSA-Future Health Professionals, Key Club, and as a member of the Oklahoma City Youth Council. As a mentor, I help in the sustainment and empowerment of Oklahoma’s youth by teaching them concepts of science related to health which will in turn prepare them for their future career. Being a part of student government has allowed me to help organize Care Share and HEISMAN Week. During Care Share, I planned what items needed to be donated and delivered those items. During HEISMAN Week, I encouraged my peers to donate money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by leading dares and other events. As a member of the Oklahoma City Youth Council, I attend council meetings and visit with government officials which has also allowed me to serve my peers for I am the connection between them and city officials. As a member of HOSA-Future Health Professionals and Key Club, I notify others of volunteering
Contributing to my school and community is a true passion. I am involved in programs like the Red Cross, Angel Tree created by The Salvation Army, and Olive Garden’s Pasta For Pennies. My school hosted a Red Cross blood drive, and I was responsible for promoting the event to individuals within our school. We had a total of two hundred students donate blood. We helped save a total of six hundred lives! I also assisted the Program Angel Tree by promoting the program among the student organizations within my school. Our involvement has helped hundreds of less fortunate children and seniors receive necessities and gifts! As a team, the student council also collects spare change from students in our school. Our collaboration with Olive Garden has helped fund the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's School & Youth campaign. I am truly glad that my contributions have made an impact within my community and society! My strong involvement in extracurricular activities has helped me become knowledgeable, principled, and a risk-taker. I carry a strong sense of respect and righteousness, and I approach unfamiliar opportunities with a vision and great courage. I seek to set an example for members within my school, community, state, and
Pedagogical documentation is a form of documentation that documents children’s experiences and their view of the world around them. Teachers can use this form of documentation to help in assessing children. This form of assessment allows teachers to look at the dialogue that happened with pictures as more evidence. Pedagogical documentation helps create a shared understanding. This shared understanding helps create future curriculum by seeing what the children did and said during their investigation. It also provides ideas for what can be done in the future. An example of this type of documentation I would use in our current small groups in the lab school. Taking pictures of what the children are discovering and learning and writing down quotes as continue to
My practicum was a good learning experience of practical public health work and exposure to how zoonotic disease is handled by multiple public health departments. I appreciated my experience giving me the knowledge of day-to-day public health work and what it means to be epidemiologist. My classes in epidemiology prepared me well for understanding terminology and the process of outbreak response. Particularly, my Applied Epidemiology course provided me with the critical thinking skills to evaluate published literature. In reviewing my work I used multiple public health competencies including biostatistics, epidemiology, communication and informatics, leadership, professionalism, and program planning.
Observation is something that educators do carefully to gain information about young children. Documentation is the process of collecting evidence that serves as a record. When teachers observe the young children, it provides the information that the teachers need to build relationships with individual children and enable them to be successful learners. The best way the teachers should learn about children by carefully watching them, listening to them and studying their work. When the teachers are watching and listening to children helps us understand what they are feeling, learning and thinking. Observation is an excellent way to track children’s
When I walked into my practicum classroom, I already had a vague idea of what my personal philosophy was. After being in the class my philosophy dramatically changed. As individuals we can read many books about teaching, but can never prepare for what teaching is really like. My philosophy relies heavily on cooperative learning, students learn when they are among their peers. With this being said, how students are grouped is crucial, some students cannot work together because they get off task while others work really well together. Routine is another important factor in the classroom because students like to know what they are going to be doing and what they are expected to learn that day. Before this experience I liked the traditional classrooms
I was raised up believing in the importance of service and community as I saw my family members and neighbors selflessly help and be in community with people in need. It is therefore no surprise that I discovered my passion for service and volunteerism while still young. In my hometown Nairobi, Kenya, I did community service through various ways, including my involvement in the charity walk for Street Children and Orphans in Kenya in 2003 and the 2007 Brookside Freedom from Hunger Campaign. I participated in the charity walk for these causes and helped raise money to support street children, orphans, ending hunger, and was recognized as one of the top three people to raise the most funds. In high school, I volunteered at the St. Nicholas Children's home in Kenya, where I served, played, and was in solidarity with the children. In 2013, I earned the President’s Bronze Standard award given to me by Honorable Mwai Kibaki, the third president of Kenya for being a young person equipped with positive life skills and a change maker in my community, country, and globally.
Evidence based instruction is a collection of practices that have been tested and show a record of success and improvement. Evidence based instruction is based on information that is reliable and with verifiable as well as valid evidence that shows when this practice or program is implemented, there is a moderate to substantial chance that students will make strides in achievement. Research based means that there has been researched, but does not definitely imply success or achievement.
After taking some time to reflect on my practicum I believe I would choose to participate in the experience again. I’ve learned information about myself and the type of work environment I value, as well as information about Student Veteran Services. Going in to the semester, I thought my opportunities to engage with the office would be more abundant then they were, but I still feel as if the overall experience was valuable. It was easy to reach the 100-hour total, however, I’m not sure that I would recommend this as a practicum site in the future. Mainly because Eric is a one-man team and it was hard for him to be completely present and engage in this experience.
The observation’s reflection has already influenced the way I plan and teach. Reflecting on my work helped me improve my teaching strategies and gain the ability to schedule plans that respond to the students’ needs. In my opinion, observation is one of the most successful strategies that are used in the practicum course to support teachers. I believe that AUD has formed an enthusiastic teaching and learning community.
One year ago I joined “Good neighbors” (NGO) a major goal of which was rendering assistance and encouraging to the children from low-income families in our country, as well as in many other countries. I have been helping to implement the very first project by filling out questionnaires of children and other tasks of the employees of the organization that had to be done. I was fortunate to be involved in a noble cause in it. While I was working in this organization, I obtained unforgettable experience. “Good Neighbors” made me feel amenable and responsible for little children which needed our help. The volunteer experience revealed my feelings to the children, which have become like siblings to me. A selfless and free aid to people, especially to the children, is a great matter. I understood that everything we did was for the benefit of children. Even if I do not have enough forces and opportunities to make the world better for everyone, I am realistic about my forces and capabilities and I strive to make this world better for specific
Whilst at school, I was the recipient of two national scholarships in History and I won first place in national essay competition thanks to my innovative ideas for country development. Moreover, I was elected President of the Student Council and as such leased with local administration to voice students’ demands and managed to set up and run a second-hand book shop for students. I also won a trip to the European Commission due to extensive voluntary work. As part of the project EUROSCOLA, by virtue of my outstanding research and debating skills, I was elected for the President of the Democracy and Citizenship Committee thus was responsible for writing and defending Committee’s resolution at the European Parliament. I was eventually awarded the title Symbol of my High School due to unprecedented contribution to the local community throughout my school years.
