In my opinion, I do not believe they should lower the voting age to 16. I feel this way, because I do not think at the age of 16 they truly understand how politics works.I am gonna be 39 and I still do not understand how it all works. Like the artical states, according to U.S. Cenus Bureau report,"only 38% of voters in the 18 - 24 age group voted in 2012". I do not believe those numbers will increase by allowing 16 year olds to vote.I also agree with the artical, "that we should not add the least engaged part of our population to the electorate". I do however, understand and respect that not everyone feels this way. There are some people that agree that we should lower the voting age.In the artical the people that agree
Another reason I think the voting age should not change is because 16 year olds are not as
Should the voting age be lowered to 16 years old? There's some pretty good reasons to! Sixteen-year-olds should be allowed to vote because it is a better starting age for voting, and it will help to ease the problem of not enough people voting. Plus, they already have plenty of adult-like responsibilities. Why not voting?
In my position I agree to lower the age of voting to 16-17 years old because it can raise up the percentage of voting. Many people are not voting because they don't believe it can help them and their community also with the support from 16-17 years old, it can show a huge difference on how the votes are increasing little by little. Also it can gives them experience on what's the voting like. Once they get older, they will know what to do because they registered the vote in an
We should be focusing more on voter participation rather than the percentage of population registered to vote. There are many factors that would increase voter turnout in America, but lowering the voting age is not one of them. In 2012 the U.S. Census Bureau reported that only 38% of voters age 18-24 actually voted.
I agree that the voting age should be lowerd to the age of 16.Simply because they do have mature 16 year olds.To me it's like the passage says "There is nothing magical about the age 18." In my opinion ,if they are allowing 16 year olds to complete high early, that shows that they have the brains to know who to vote for obviously. I've seen most 16 year olds in this generation willing to want to vote than the older generation. So I think the age should be lowerd to those 16 year olds whom have completed high school though. If many countries have already done so, then I think this is the one time America should also follow.I think the turnout would be more higher if the age was lowered.Another thing I agree with from the passage is that "Lowering
Voting is what allows our governement to make the best decisions for our country. However some people believe that we should allow younger voters (16 years of age) to vote for our country. I would have to disagree with such beliefs for three reasons: the voting rate of young voters is already low as it is, it would decrease the currently low voting rates, and the lack of participation questions the young voters civic responsibility.
I agree, that 16 and 17 year old citizens should have to right to vote. The legal voting age in America is 18 years old, and it has been that way for about 40 years. They were given that right when the the 26th amendment was passed, and ever since it has been passed, there was no real dramatic increase in the voting rate. Young people didn't really pay attention to politics, usually because at that age, 18 year old already had a lot to deal with in their daily lives.
There are many concerns that might be brought upon if Congress chooses to lower the voting age in the U.S from 18 to 16. Many could assume that 16-year-olds are not competent enough to make mature and informed decisions. They could either choose to not vote or vote the way their parents tell them to vote. There have been past issues with lowering the voting age in America from 21 to 18. Dissatisfaction among many people could cause a huge conflict if lowering the voting age to 16. Although, we must weigh out the pros and cons of lowering the voting age. This will possible affect the voter turnout in a positive way. For those who vote earlier in life can possible develop a habit of voting in the near future. As of right now, we have a low
The legal voting age here in the United States, is 18 years old. It's a considerable time for people to start voting around that time, due to the fact that most 18-year-olds will be out of High School and be entering the real world. The problem with lowering it to, "16 years of age" wouldn't be a wise decision. Due to the fact that High Schools at that age would most likely be entering their Junior Year and would have to focus on their own curriculum. Anothering to note: they wouldn't be mentally ready to have that kind of right. Giving them time to know how politics work and how the real world works, gives them the knoledge to who to vote for and what political party preference they would choose based on the canidate.
In the United States the voting age currently is 18 years old and now there are those that wish to lower the age to 16. If the goal is to increase the percentage of the pouplation voting there are better ways of doing so rather than lowering the voting age two years. Doing so would only be waste of time, energy, and resources.
People might suggest that let sixteen and seventeen years olds citizens should vote just so that the teens can go in the habit of voting at an early age and of to show them how the voting system actually works. Teenagers don’t even have the responsibility to clean up for themselves and are being peer pressured by their so called friends to do something dangerous. That doesn’t sound like people that can handle the idea of being able to change the world for the best or the worst with their vote. If even the eighteens years olds that are legal to vote don’t even vote so,what makes you think that by lowering the voting age is going to make such a big impacted on whatever is that they are voting on. So I believe that sixteen and seventeen year olds shouldn’t be allowed to vote for anything.
The controversy over lowering the voting age is a difficult one. While lowering the voting age will increase the number of voters, it is not guaranteed to increase the percentage of participation. We must also consider the fact that younger voters tend not to vote. Another concern is the involvement of young adults ages 16-18 in politics. It is not common that these teens follow politics and think about who would be a good leader for their country. Lowering the voting age most likely will not help to improve voter turnout or participation or turnout. We need to work toward increasing the participation of the existing voters.
Recently, there was an article about decreasing the voting age by 2 years. Lowering the voting age to 16 would be a mistake for maturaty reasons.
The dispute between rather or not the voting age should be lowered to 16 is questionable. On one hand you have veteran voters that believe it should not. With the possibility of it lowering the percentage of voting participation. Also, you have the youth that wants to be included. It may not be benificial to all.
The legal age to vote should be maintained and not lowered below age of 18. Our government should not be decided by the immature youth they are not capable of such a important dession that will effect the entire country. People below the legal age of 18 are restricted from doing many things because they are still developing and immature. The voting age should not change to attemp to increase voting numbers.
