Pros And Cons Of Raising The Minimum Wage

As of today, the current federal minimum wage $7.25, which is just enough to pay some bills and live at the bottom of the social classes. With everything being so much more expensive than what everything used to be, you barely afford to live well off. Single parents have it worse, there is only one income in the house and with children to feed and bills to pay, they are going to have a hard time keeping up with it all. So the question is, should we increase the minimum wage standard? Though there are many pros and cons for increasing the minimum wage, I myself am for increasing it. I believe that raising the minimum wage to between $9-$10 would greatly increase the financial stability of many families and we would begin to see many families come out of poverty and possibly even see some low class families move into the middle class. Of course we can not go overboard with the minimum wage increase. Seattle, Washington’s minimum wage was set to $15 and since then, Seattle has been seeing a number of restaurants and small businesses close down simply because they can’t afford to pay the workers. So research and studies have shown that the best thing to do is bump up the minimum wage to either $9 or $10.10. With either of these options we will see a decrease in unemployment which is to be expected. The $9 option wouldn’t decrease as much as the $10.10 option but regardless, decrease in unemployment is always a good thing to see. More people working means less people being
