Pros And Cons Of The Removal Of Confederate Statues

The Removal of the Confederate Statues On August 12, 2017, a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, VA turned into a violent and brought renewed attention to dozens of Confederate monuments from around the country. The removal of the confederate statues has its pros and cons as to why they should take them down. My opinion to this debate is that they shouldn’t take the statues down. There are three reasons why I would not want them removed. The first is that what we should see in the statues is a ghost, a remainder from the past that nobody could banish. It is important to remember that we live in a country built by strife and bloodshed, as well as hope and posterity. The statues are to remember they existed, remember their mistakes and accomplishments and learn from them to not have to remember that detestable past with some of them when they were alive. Another reason to not remove them is because people that grow up throughout the years should have the opportunity to learn about what happened years ago so they could have an idea of how people treated each other and how equality wasn’t the same back then. The last reason is to prevent more fights than there are already. Remembering forces us to become wiser. Remembering and getting to know history is one of the most important things that people should get to learn about by the simple fact to get to know the world and how throughout the years its become better and worse in a few ways.
