Pros And Cons Of Traditional Grading System

Education is without a doubt one of the most significant factors in our society. We spend twelve years of our lives in the schooling system, and our system has been the most accurate technique for assessing students for decades now. Lately, there has been controversy over the traditional grading system that we currently use in our classrooms across the United States. There is a multitude of individuals who believe we should alter our grading system, and begin using a recently developed system which involves working on a long-term assignment throughout the semester to show what students have learned during the length of the course. For example, if a student notices they have a low grade in a class, such as an F, they will want to do better in that class to excel their grade before receiving a report card. It encourages people to be more productive and learn more so they can advance their letter grade. Basically, if we did not have letter grades students would have little or no motivation to do well. Also, if we abolished our traditional grading system students would no longer receive report cards. Report cards are a superior part of our school system . If we were to do long-term assignments there would be nothing to grade until the assignment was completed at the end of the semester, so there would be no grades given to make a report card. They are a necessity in schools because they inform parents of their child's progress and attendance in classes. Since you receive report cards from the time that you are in kindergarten, they are an overall outlook on your whole school career. Some may argue that we should introduce this new system into all of our schools. While there is a slight chance that using this new method in our school system may benefit us, there would be many shortcomings that would outweigh the good things about it. Although I believe that we should be persistent with our current system, there are minimal changes that could be made to enhance it. Any of the alterations that could be done to improve our system would be minor,
