Fall of The Roman Empire Have you ever heard the phrase,”Rome wasn’t built in a day?” Just as Rome wasn’t built in a day, it took quite a bit for it to come crashing down. The Roman Empire took years to fall and it fell for a very large amount of reasons. The 3 main causes for the fall of Rome were poor military decisions, foreign invasions, as well as natural disasters. The first influential reason for the fall of Rome was their poor military decisions. The Romans made a series of poor decisions for their military as well as their enforcement of draft laws that contributed greatly towards their downfall. In the text, it is stated that,”The exempted categories were… numerous. Hosts of senators, bureaucrats, and clergymen were entitled to avoid the draft”(Document B). This is in reference to the Roman military draft. It shows how men were escaping the draft, thus lowering the mancount of the army. Another piece of the passage states,”So our soldiers fought the Goths without any protection for chest and head…” (Document B). This fact is talking about how the soldiers decided that the armour was too heavy for them in an act of negligence. This again weakened the military further as they were easily defeated by archers and very susceptible during battle. This in turn caused soldiers to become frightened and more likely to run away. The weakened army then contributed to the next point, poor military leaders. Between the years 235 CE and 285 CE, 4 emperors died in battle
