A muddy road stretched in front of me, cold rain spattering on my skin. I pushed myself up, watching the blood roll off my arm. Dripping from my fingertips, it seemed like paint was being poured onto my hand. It fell into the puddles of rain, turning them a deep crimson red. Raising my arms above my head, I imagined flying over a sea of red. My hair whipped my face as I spun in the pools of tears, rain, and blood. A smile crept onto my lips, for the first time in ages, I was alive again.
I waded through the puddles, taking in the beauty around me. Dark trees grew wildly on the roadside, their jagged branches folding out into the sky. Wild grasses sprouting along the road; untamed. No sound other than that of droplets slapping the surface of

My skin was pale, bleeding and scarred. My ebony hair dripping wet. My clothes ripped and burnt. I slowly raised my hand to touch the cold surface of the towering building, and felt a sensation of being pulled and sucked through.I was standing in a room made of black stone. Glistening red rubies embedded in the walls glowed with light. An indigo velvet carpet lead to a silver podium, jagged rocks forming a barrier.
"Welcome home", it's voice was deep and full of power. A shadow emerged from the wall, as the shadow materialized into someone emitting so much power, I could feel my skin tingle.
I responded immediately, the first time I have spoken in such a long time "Time is an illusion isn't it?" My voice was dark as the night itself, creating its own kind of black energy. So different than how it was the last time I heard it.
"This is the time when darkness will be light. When the bitterness of the world revealed. Do you understand the truth now?" He stalked towards me, resembling a jaguar ready to attack. As if he was anticipating my answer to be no.
"More than understand, I am the truth".
I remember how I used to think that light will always be stronger. How I thought that things like happiness and true love existed. How
As my car climbed the hill, my heart sunk into my stomach. I parked as far away from my friends as I could and quickly exited the car, not once looking at them. Now it was every man for himself. Emerging into the open air, I suddenly became aware of myself. I could feel my puffy, blood-shot eyes. My palms became slimy. My fingers clinched into a fist and my nails dug into my skin. My sight blurred and my tunnel of vision tried to focus on the front door. Every step seemed more awkward than the last. Eyes pierced me from all sides. I felt naked. My body trembled like a sheep in the midst of wolves.
I awoke to a cacophony of screams, both of excitement and of pain. I jolted up quickly, unable to control my own muscles or vocal chords, as if a spectre was holding me back with airy fingers of death.
The fainted as usual, then I saw the creature walk near me. I felt a weird feeling, something I've never felt before. It was horrible, I couldn't breathe and I felt
I was surrounded by the sound of graphite moving anxiously over paper. The clamor filled my ears and collided with the dull ticking of the clock that hung over the SAT proctor’s disorderly, graying hair. There were only eighteen minutes left and I still had not written a single word. The prompt reverberated in my head like a ringing bell, but I could not form cohesive thoughts. My heart raced and my fingernails dug into the curve of my palm in panic, leaving small, pallid impressions in their wake. Pleading with myself, I considered the page that lay askew on the on the chipped desk in front of me. I wrote a desperate and painfully arbitrary sentence that I quickly erased. Nothing sounded right. I had studied and prepared for this moment with
“You wanted a clue, so here you are,” said a disembodied voice, somewhere amongst the shadows.
“I 'm dead, you hear me! All the evidence burns with me!” There was a loud thud on the other end of the line before the call ended. Fear 's cold fingers crept up my spine as his words rang through my core.
people to stand up and come forward I started to hear another voice. That voice became louder
It was like a furry, agile Dracula, its breathing very loud and deep. I froze. My mind froze. My entire body refused to co-operate. In less than half a second, it pounced onto me.
was lost for words, the creature creeping closer by the second. My mouth was gaped open like a fish, the animal directly above me, so close that I could hear the humming breaths of the animal.
I was in a dark, moss-ridden dungeon where the air vigorously hung with the scent of death and suffering. Chains lay on the cobblestone walls, with hammered metal shackles on the cracked stone floor. My lab coat collected dust like a dead old skeleton six feet under. The gun felt gelid on my temple, my scrawny legs were shaking extremely fast, I thought they would run away but I knew I could escape.
It was a bleak summer’s evening with the shadows deepening on a path that ambled down between bitternut hickory trees and then cut sideways across a field of tiny green grapevines. There was a wind beginning, small gusts that rattled the fence posts and set the dandelions dancing in unison on the broad expanse of lawn. Rain spotted our shirts and glistened on our nylon backpacks.
"I am Quanta, and you will obey me!", its voice erupted from its innards shaking the my room with its
I stared in horror – that wall was stained with gruesome blood stains. What the smell was became all too obvious and I felt the need to vomit… that motion put away and forgotten in an instant when the shuffling of feet rustled behind me. Panic. I turned around in a blur, my eyes huge and watering. My stomach stirred in the slightest. A lamp? Indeed, a tall standing lamp radiated a warm light only a few metres in front of me. Was it real or a figment of my abused mind? Curiosity would get the best of me, lending me a tiny spurt of energy to boost me on my feet. Teetering footsteps led me forward cautiously, random tremors reminding me of my weakness. The lamp was close enough to touch, its friendly warmth the only hope in the world to me. Basking in it for some slow seconds, I wondered, maybe there were more things in the room that hadn’t been revealed to the naked eye? Turning sharp on my heel, I let out a blood curdling screech as I came face to face with the most horrific thing I had ever seen. Huge fly-like eyes took in my paling complexion, and a lopsided smile of stinking razor sharp teeth mocked me. Rancid skin that looked like the algae layer that sat upon a swamp bubbled and oozed, trickling down a sharply shaped ‘face’. Flight or fight reaction chose the obvious option and I turned back again to run. Where, I did not
As I left behind the somber forest, I now recognized an appreciation for nature that I did not realize I had. I now knew there was more to nature than just trees and animals, but also I found the
The grass was soft and green, reserved for those who wanted to lie down or sit. A sweet aroma of flowers overflowed near by like s shinning light, but was hidden by the untrimmed bushes and wildly growing trees. Up above me was the beautiful, high noon blue sky spotted with fluffy, white clouds and airplanes flying by. I emerged into the parking lot and stopped happily as a squirrel under a tree. Hesitating to proceed anywhere further I took a few
