Music to me is passion; it is what I enjoy the most be it any time of the day, no matter where I am and what I am doing. It is a universal language that brings about feelings, emotions and thoughts of musicians to people. Music to different people can mean a lot of different things.
The first video, ‘Music to Me’ shows us just that. We see young boys and girls doing what they enjoy the most too, that is to play music. As they speak of their passion, we find out that some of them hated to learn to play music in the beginning. They found it boring and frustrating because they did not know how to play the musical instrument they started on. One of the musicians even says that the learning process was torture for him. However, we find out that the phrase ‘if you don’t succeed, try, try again’ is obviously true. The musicians in the video prove that after practice, they play very well and that they find it very enjoyable and interesting. Jose, a conductor, musician and activist in Venezuela started this program 40 years ago, with the intention of providing a free musical education to the youth of Venezuela. The main aim of this project is to keep the youth of Venezuela off the streets, where crime and drug abuse is the easiest thing to do, and to enroll them in a learning center where they may select a musical instrument of their choice and spend their free time practicing to play. Jose believes that music has the ability to unite communities, which is very
This speech is Karl Paulnack’s welcoming address for incoming freshman students. He addresses that music isn’t apart of arts and entertainment rather music is an invisible force that helps us piece ourselves together. Paulnack believes that music is an essential part of life and goes to prove it by telling his experiences with it. He describes the first moment he truly understood music and the impact it has on people. Paulnack portrays the day after 9/11 after he struggles to find any meaning in being a pianist. After a long time of questioning himself he observes the city and notices something. He sees that in this time of grief and sadness people are singing. From this he learned that music is a form of expression, it allows people to express their feelings when they have no other words to describe them. Paulnack goes on to describe what he says was the most important concert of his life. He and a friend were playing a concert at a nursing home. During their performance, one man began to cry, it was at that time Paulnack knew the man was a veteran. After Paulnack and his friend finished the piece, they announced that the piece they were playing was Aaron Copland's Sonata, which was a work

Most instructors didn’t bother using music in order to help retain information. It was almost as if it was forgotten about. But, if music is so important why isn’t it allowed in most classrooms today? Many teachers are not fond of music in the classroom. To many, it is seen as a distraction. The literal meaning of the word 'music' according to any dictionary is: 'art of combining vocal or instrumental sounds in a harmonious or expressive way.' But music has a meaning which is far broader than this. Music is life. Music means Self-expansion and oneness. It is an art by itself.
