Description: When I first drove onto Folkways I was amazed by the amount of land the property laid on. There were trails intertwined between individual houses, apartment buildings, and three story buildings that had common areas. The landscape was gorgeous; with beautiful flowers that were well maintained. When I met bob, the man who gave us a tour, he was very welcoming. He said “you are not a student when you come to folkways; you are apart of our family.” In our tour around the property Bob showed his love for Folkways through the interaction with the other residents. He knew the majority of the residents by name, and even the ones he didn’t know he was sure to introduce us. Both the residents and the staff were all delightful, making sure …show more content…
I was able to see many different levels of care being provided in one living space. I was able to encounter people from all different backgrounds, and many different stages of life. I found myself frequently thinking how I would enjoy living in a facility like Folkways in my later years of life. This experience allowed me to appreciate older adult facilities. If opened my eyes to how every facility is different and has different perks. All the resident were very content where they lived and I think that is very important in a community. Also each resident was at different stages in their life and needed different levels of care, and I thought it was amazing how one facility can meet the needs of each individual. This study placed cameras throughout the long-term care facility with permission from the residents and provided 24-hour surveillance. What was found by this study was that residents displayed behavior changes and sleeping patterns 24 hours prior to their fall. Their fall was associated with unsteady balance or changes in balance, which lead to the fall. The video surveillance provided staff members with patterns a resident might partake in prior to a fall. It provided a teaching tool for staff members as well as a look at the layout of the facility, which may be contributing to the
Those 3-4 days we were there, I had a lot of exposure to older people and it just opened my mind to what was like to interact with seniors who were experiencing mental or physical disabilities, illnesses, etc. The whole experience change my attitude towards the elderly because I realized that their capacities/health start to deteriorate due to illness or aging, and that only a few of them remain in “good shape”. So, I started to be more attentive and careful around them. I also felt sad and intimidated around them due to the conditions they were in and their reactions they had toward the staff, other residents, or us. I will say that not all the residents were mean or anything because some of them were friendly, talkative, and had a good sense of
Falls are highly common amongst the elderly, particularly those who lack mobility, are in hospital, or are living in a nursing home. When an elderly person falls, their activities of daily living may be impacted due to injuries sustained from the fall. It is essential that precautions are put in place to prevent falls in all settings. This essay will discuss the statistics surrounding falls, prevention strategies, and the impacts of a fall on a patient’s ability to complete activities of daily living.
To begin with, the very common case in most of care homes, especially residential care homes where residents are more independent compare to other nursing home, residents are tend to be high risk of falling. As health professional we have duty to put risk control measures in to place once resident has bee identified to have high risk of falling. Because if we failed to provide methods to prevent the risk of falling, the resident could end up
After a supper of fried fish, grits, and biscuits, the children’s bellies were full and their imaginations were running wild- they hadn’t completely forgotten living on the trail- The same as when they were younger, they wanted Charity to tell them a story before they went to sleep. She smiled at their eagerness, remembering all the stories she had told them at night while they were on the trail from Sandersville to Canton. It seemed that once they were settled in a house and not camping under the stars, the need for her bedtime stories were no longer necessary. Living on the trail seemed to bring her children much closer to her; she missed living that way…
Life in the town of Stoneshade was fairly simple. The weather is always warm, although the sun never seems to shine. The Stoneshade river brings us fresh water from Marianne's glacier, just north of us in the mountains. The people here are mainly happy, but I can’t be one voice for everyone, since the town is too big to know every person in it. In fact, it’s more like a city than a town, but since everyone lives so far away from each other, it doesn’t have the city feel to it. In between the many houses are a vast range of trees, which is where most of us spend our time. Even though our town has the high technology of any other place, the residents prefer to stay outside, and for a good reason, too.
Falls and Fall related hospitalization and injury will increase as the population over age 65 increases. Falls impact not only seniors quality of life, as well as have repercussions in the lives of family and friends, the health care system and nursing home occupancy. This is an issue that should be addressed prior to the large fluctuation in population to set adequate services and programming in place for prevention and supporting the inevitable increase of hospitalizations and nursing home occupancies. The next obstacle in prevention & intervention is to gain entry into the community.
Ever since I was born, I always lived on Chapell Hill Road. I lived on a quiet road, embraced by trees. My house sat on a large property. In the front, there was wide open space to play. However, woods consumed the backyard. I shared a room with my twin brother, Dominick. My brother Anthony had his own room to himself.
The purpose of this research paper is to find evidence-base data to improve the quality and safety of patient care and to prevent patient falls in the hospitals. It will include three evidence-based research reports related to fall preventions and patient safety, examine a national initiative to support my topic of falls in the hospital, and discuss Orlando’s Nursing home testing Process Theory. The Joint Commission, TJC (2013) requires accredited hospitals to conduct fall risk assessments for hospitalized patients in order to identify fall risks in each patient, so prevention measures can be implemented into their plan of care. TJC began to monitor sentinel events in 1995. Through the end of 2012, there have been 659 fall-related events which resulted in death or permanent loss of function. This number reflects voluntary reporting and represents only a small portion of actual events. The actual number is unknown, but is most likely much greater, demonstrating the importance of fall prevention intervention (The Joint Commission, 2013). The TJC requires every accredited organization to define what they consider to be a patient fall but there is no universally accepted definition of a patient fall. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) define a fall as, “loss of upright position that results in landing on the floor, ground or an object or furniture or a sudden, uncontrolled, unintentional, non-purposeful, downward displacement of the body to the floor/ground or hitting
The health promotion issue in my community is fall prevention among the elderly who are cognitively impaired and others with physical limitations from the disease processes like MS, Parkinson, and vertigo. "Elderly individuals in nursing homes are especially prone to falling and the ensuing complications. Consequences of falling are numerous and include fractures and/or soft tissue injury, death, and the fear of falling again" (Schoenfelder, 2000, p.
Talk about a small world. The visit was an uplifting and enlightening moment for students and adults alike. The experience is truly a testament to the fact that the Leland and Gray and Townshend communities may be small in size, but their reach is truly
In the article “The Effectiveness of a Fall Prevention/Management Program In Reducing Patient Falls: A Retrospective Study,” Urquhart Wilbert (2013) discussed the problem of increased falls among the elderly population while they are in the hospital or a long term care setting. She discussed that falls are associated with risk factors that are recognizable and if they get attention then the risk
The world and its great variety of places have had an impact on my life, but only one has turned me into the person I am today. My home, Zapzalka Farms, is the foundation of my life. Who would have thought a small farm just four miles north of the little town called Bowlus would teach a young man so many valuable lessons about working hard and strong moral values? Looking in from the driveway, I see the house where I grew up, the two story structure composed of 115 year old crusty yellow concrete brick surrounded by flower beds and 50 foot cedar trees. This house has helped me through everything, from birthday parties as a child, to writing Comp papers as a student, I do not know where I would be without it. As I make my way down the driveway surrounded by seven foot cornfields like a mouse searching its
The outside of town was empty, just fields and old railroad tracks. I come out here every day to take pictures and write. I love capturing a moment that will never come again; sure the sun always sets and rises in the same place but not in the same way. I always wonder what moments I miss, that I couldn’t catch on camera. Sometimes I think it’s a good thing, because not everything needs to be recorded. Mystery of nature and wildlife can be refreshing when you are the person experiencing it. Walking up and down the tracks and sometimes laying down on them to get the perfect shot. My favorite part of the outside of town is the railroad tracks and the fact that no one else comes up here. Other than Violet, but unfortunately she does not count.
Warrenton is a tiny “town” where everyone waves at each other. It consists of Warrenton Road, Old State Road, and its home base, Log Inn, is at the intersection. Straight down Warrenton road, past the truck stops and the expanding subdivisions, but before the campground, lies my humble abode. My house is a peninsula in a sea of fields. Our only neighbors are across the road, but we’ve always been friendly and stop to talk frequently.
A peaceful, flourishing town with less crime than ever seen before. Unique shops, stunning well-kept nature, and a hearty, boisterous town center where street performers and artists entertain visitors and residents alike. They call it paradise, a dream that every human being would want. There's no drama, there are no accidents, and the town is economical and very environmental. The people of Serenity Hills enjoy a simple life with simple houses and gadgets. There aren't many apartments or skyscrapers, nor any complex machinery.
