Romeo and Juliet was a classic romance novel about passion, love and tragedy, written and first acted in 1595. According to Alan Durband, many versions of Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet all relate to Shakespeare's understanding of early life in Verona. Romeo, a Montague, falls in love with Juliet, a Capulet, because he is romantically inclined. The Capulets and Montagues are feuding households His impulsivity caused a lot of people to die and experience emotional pain. Falling in love with Juliet was the event that started a chain reaction.
Romeo is a melodramatic 16-year old that lets his downheartedness over Rosaline take over when he sees Juliet. Romeo is unhappy, as Rosaline decided to stay chaste, and then he meets Juliet and he sees that she is looks attractive and wants to make irresponsible decisions. Romeo gives a perfect example of his irresponsible, lustful identity when he says this, “Did my heart love till now? / Forswear it, sight! For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night”(Shakespeare,
“A pair of star-cross'd lovers take their life”. In the play, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, The character Juliet undergoes a big change throughout the story. Juliet is the daughter of the mighty family named the capulets. Romeo is the only son of the feared montagues. Romeo and Juliet met at a party and felt feelings for each other instantly. They have to sneak around so they don't get caught by their parents and are very serious about their relationship. In the william shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet, Juliet goes from a loyal, obedient girl to an independent young woman. Shakespeare portrays these changes in act 1 scene 3, act 2 scene 2, and act 3 scene 5.
The character Romeo is displayed as a loving, kind hearted person and someone who is very emotional. This is shown when he is found crying in the forest at dawn because of Roseline, and he showed his courage when parting away from his friends and going to see Juliet at her house after the party;however, Romeo also has a change of heart later in the work, in which he expresses fury and hatred and makes many choices without thinking about the consequences. When Romeo finds out that his wife Juliet had died, he comes back in a fit of rage and goes to visit a chemist and persuades him to sell him a poison and he goes to visit Juliet (5,1, 61-78). This is an indication that he is expressing
Romeo’s soliloquy about Juliet says, “Juliet is the sun. Arise fair sun and kill the envious moon”(2.2.4). This metaphor exemplifies the beauty that Romeo sees in Juliet. By saying that she is the “sun” he shows how much she stands out to him; shining brighter and higher than all others. This demonstrates Romeo’s deep connection to Juliet and no one else. At the first sight of Juliet, Romeo is very intrigued and he says, “The brightness in her cheeks would shame all those stars” (2.2.19-20). Romeo uses a metaphor to prove that she is shining, bright, high, and beautiful. He feels that she would “shame those stars” with her profound beauty, the thing that stands out most to him. Even when Romeo and Juliet know that things may become difficult between them Romeo says: “For stony limits cannot hold love out”(2.2.72). This personification shows how Romeo's desire for Juliet will not be stopped by anything. If “stoney limits” will not stop Romeo’s love for Juliet, he believes he will never let anything get between them. Through Shakespeare's use of figurative language, Romeo’s feelings for Juliet are
Although the feuding families have a grudge held against each other since ancient times, they are careless and will not allow that to affect their love. Once Juliet learns that Romeo is a Montague she says,
Romeo and Juliet is conflict and love. Conflict and love are both shown through characterization in all of the characters. In the beginning, we see Juliet 's character as a little young child who obeys her family duties. When she meets, Romeo, her character is taken on a rollercoaster of emotions. Juliet 's character is the source of conflict and we see this through her developing actions. Romeo creates Juliet into this powerful young women. Romeo is so important to Juliet that she does not want to loose him. Conflict begins to arise when things actually take off. Once they are together on the balcony, is when they both realize that they are meant for each other. That true love is true and that they are destined for the stars. True love is
Romeo and Juliet is a tale of love, conflict and sorrow, but how have these things changed the character of young Romeo. At the beginning of this tale Romeo was to say a emotional mess over the fair Rosaline who was the love of his life, but she did not feel the same. Now this left Romeo feeling and looking like a emotional adolescent. During this embarrassing time Romeo had one way to describe the situation at hand, “Why then, O brawling love, O loving hate, O anything of nothing first create!”. However towards the end he had matured turning from an emotional adolescent to a mature adult who can make the tough decisions. And this happened thanks to his love for the beautiful Juliet. An example of this level of matureness is what he says to
At the beginning of the story, Romeo was in love with Rosaline. Romeo is still a teen and he is very indecisive about who he likes. But, after Romeo meets Juliet, he instantly falls in love with her and he has no feelings for anyone else. This shows Romeo becoming more mature because Romeo’s actions show that he truly is in love and doesn't have feelings for anyone else. If Romeo was like most teens, he wouldn’t be very serious about this Relationship he has with Juliet, most teens are not very mature and will most likely not stay loyal to their partner. But Romeo does and that shows that he has matured because Romeo can stay loyal to one partner.
To be honest, this video was pretty depressing, even though I don’t really agree with its message fully. The creator of the video defines love in a very harsh way, as some sort of distraction we imagine to be a connection. Near the beginning of the video, the creator says to the viewer, “You are irredeemably alone”. I think what the creator is saying with this is that everyone is looking out for themselves, and you as an individual, are completely on your own. That hints towards what this creator thinks love is, but she truly gives her definition of love when she says “The idea of love distracts us from an existential loneliness”. The creator has already said that everyone is on their own, and she is adding on to that by saying, because of that, humans have come up with the idea of love, to take our minds off the
Romeo compares Juliet to the sun, saying everything revolves around her and that she is the center of all things. Saying that Juliet is the sun is a simile, comparing a woman to the sun. This contributes to the relationship between Romeo and Friar Lawrence because Romeo tells the Friar that he is in love with Juliet and that he wants the Friar to marry the two. Keeping in mind that this is the first day of them being together, Friar
The iconic play of Romeo and Juliet has been widely known for years due to its portrayal of love at its absolute worst. Some may believe that Romeo and Juliet’s unlucky relationship matches closely with modern day love affairs but the opposite is true, the difference between this Shakespearian tragedy and modern day relationships is as clear as day and Romeo and Juliet’s tragic end and age prove this. Even how the star-crossed lovers met set them up for failure.
As Lord Capulet began to trust Romeo more and more, the closer Romeo and Juliet became. As time passed, the two began to ponder upon the thought of marriage. All of nine months had passed, Romeo decided to ask the big question. As they galloped out of the city on horseback, and the breeze played dreamily with her hair, he wondered if this moment was real. For in this moment, the sun slowly setting behind the majestic form of Juliet, spewing out from behind her bright rays of orange and red; the wind softly blowing her luscious silky hair all-around, he beheld her as an angel of light. As they reached their destination, a vineyard on a hill overlooking Verona, Romeo got on a knee and asked his love “Juliet, you have made me the happiest man alive since we’ve met. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” she emphatically replied “My love! Of course! I do!” They returned to Verona the next day and told all who crossed their path the wonderful news of their engagement. They were received with great joy upon their arrival at home; there was great celebration all throughout the whole of
Inevitably, passionate love is woven through “Romeo and Juliet”, declared by speech and insinuated by the couple infatuation with each other. Without a doubt, several scenes were a strong representation of this obsession. Many scenes into the play, the young, lovelorn Romeo is seen in a dismal and in a disconnected state due to his unrequited love for Rosaline. But as his hopeless eyes falls upon Juliet at the Capulet’s ball, Romeo is resurrected from his depression in awe by the mesmerising beauty of Juliet; this was expressed through Romeo’s soliloquy. A little while into the aftermath of the party, Romeo, powered by the newly found momentous love, risks his life climbing the high orchard walls into the deadly grounds of his enemies, the Capulets. Although Juliet fears for Romeo’s life, Romeo fearlessly
