The Louvre, located in the famous Paris, France, is home to the world’s most historic and famous pieces of art. It is a destination that I hope to experience before my life is over and I’m sure a large majority of people feel the same way. For this assignment, I choose the most famous and remembered pieces of art known to mankind. Those would be the Mona Lisa, painted by the one and only Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci a.k.a Leonardo Da Vinci, and the sculpture of Aphrodite, sculpted by Praxiteles. The Mona Lisa started in Florence roughly around 1503 and is thought to be a portrait of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine cloth merchant named Francesco del Giocondo, hence the alternative and less known title, La Gioconda. However, Da …show more content…
The statue reflects the sculptural research of the late Hellenistic Period: classical in essence, with innovatory features such as the spiral composition, the positioning in space, and the fall of the drapery over the hips. Aphrodite, or also known as The Venus de Milo was discovered not too long ago in 1820 on the island of Melos, Milo in modern Greek, located in the south-western Cyclades. The Marquis de Rivière presented it to Louis XVIII, who donated it to the Louvre the following year and the statue won instant and lasting fame. “Essentially two blocks of marble, it is comprised of several parts which were sculpted separately, bust, legs, left arm and foot, then fixed with vertical pegs, a technique which was fairly common in the Greek world, especially in the Cyclades, where this work was produced around 100 BC (Louvre).” The goddess originally wore metal jewelry, a bracelet, a pair of earrings, and a headband, of which only the fixation holes remain and the marble may have been embellished with, obviously now faded, polychromy. Sadly, the arms were never found, leaving her in her iconic fashion, a figure with broken
In 1911, his Mona Lisa was stolen from a museum in Italy. It was kept in a house hidden in the bottom of a suitcase. It was offered back for money, but they did not take it back for money. The person that stole it got arrested in 1913. The Mona Lisa was more popular than ever after it was stolen.
Sunsets are the most beautiful, magical, mesmerizing phenomenon that occurs every day. Sunsets never miss a beat and always put on such a wonderful show to whoever stops to appreciate it. I'm sure everyone has the same question, where do sunsets come from? who makes the vibrant colors of pink, purple, deep orange, and different shades of red?
This article writes at length about the discovery of the statue/sculpture of Venus de Milo of Aphrodite from Melos. Three perspectives are presented in the article firstly on how the statue was discovered and the speculations made by the experts and other artists about the sculpture and the other structures unearthed with or near the sculpture. Another perspective presented by Kousser is how the sculpture does not necessarily epitomize female beauty, but it represents Hellenistic classical art. The author highlights how the sculpture was actually setup at the
Well you want to know about Leonardo da vinci. Let’s talk about him. Leonardo da vinci was born April 15, 1452. He then died on May 2, 1519 at the age of 67. Leonardo da vinci was known for his art and science smartness. It was honestly insane how smart he was by the time he was 18. When he was 18 he was doing all kind of sorts of stuff that was almost impossible. When Leonardo da vinci was 5 years old he was taken from his mom. He had very very little education but when he was 14 he was interested in anatomy which is the study of the human body. He was studying bones and all that is in the body and how it functions. When he saw what the human body looked like he then drew very detailed drawing in his notebooks. When he would them though he would draw them backwards. With all of the objects that he had seen with exploring a lot he found objects to make different machines or vehicles. When he would draw in the notebooks he would draw so many things that it kind got overwhelming. When he would draw some of the drawing he got so many ideas he couldn’t remember some of them because there were so many. When he would draw in his notebook he would just draw those things he would also do his sculptings and his weapons of war. He was also the one who painted one of the most famous paintings. The mona lisa. Around 1495, Ludovico Sforza, then the Duke of Milan, commissioned to leonardo da Vinci to paint ‘the last supper’ on the back wall of the dining hall inside the building of
The Mona Lisa has been one of the most debated paintings of all time. The look on the face of the women in this painting leaves a person’s mind wondering. No one really seems to know what this mysterious woman is thinking or feeling. The questions that cannot seem to be answered are what make this painting so famous. The reason for that is because it is raveled in mystery and secrets. All of the small details make the painting stand out by being different from others and the details also make it far more remarkable as well. And surely, the smirk on the face of the Mona Lisa is the major key factor to the painting being so interesting. “Leonardo da Vinci was one of the
Da Vinci’ s the “Mona Lisa”(c.1519) holds Miss. Zirpolo’s statement to be true. When viewing the piece, one can see the exquisite line work and Foreshortening, to linear perspective. This art form shows his attention to detail and his passion for his work. The “Mona Lisa” (c.1519) is a small piece of artwork that became very popular. To this day the “Mona Lisa”(c.1519) still triumphs over Michelangelo’s “Creation Of Adam” (c.1511), which became a part of the “Sistine Chapel.”(C.1512) When one views “The Mona Lisa” they can see the dark color scale that is used, perhaps to depict an unhappy time. Da Vinci through out this piece is able to use an aerial perspective within the background of this portrait. Da Vinci was the first
The Mona Lisa is a very popular, and well known oil painting, painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. The painting is quite simple, it presents a portrait of a woman sitting in front of a distant landscape. Her face is expressionless; she is looking off to the side with a faint smirk. Similar to other Renaissance paintings, Mona is drawn with almost no personality or thought. The influence of the Mona Lisa on the Renaissance, and even modern day, has been enormous. This is because of the expression of realism. Mona’s smile represents more of a human-like expression rather than supernatural.
Leonardo Da Vinci is my hero because he was a one of the greatest military engineers, Inventors, and architects during the Renaissance. Being As Military Engineer, Leonardo Da Vinci created the first machine gun, bombs, an armored car which is presently known as the tank. As An Inventor, he built the first helicopter, parachute, pulleys, and other mechanisms to understand motion and force. Leonardo Da Vinci was also an architect; when he designed the first dome on top of buildings, and created the first modern bridge in 1503. When Leonardo Da Vinci always wondered how birds flew, he would researched and dissected dead birds wings and learned about flying, then he designed pedal power wind which he called "the air screw".
Aphrodite is the Olympian Greek Goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. She is identified with the planet Venus and her Roman equivalent is the Goddess Venus. She is depicted as a beautiful women. Aphrodite was born out of the sea foam and then went on to land on an island. Her parents became Zeus and Dione.
Known as the founder of the Renaissance, Leonardo De Vinci was an astonishing man. Born on April 15th, 1452, he later died in 1519. Leonardo left behind beautiful art, wonderful ideas and eccentric concepts of science and nature. His art focused on realizing contrast, he focused on the understanding of where peace resides, so does destruction. He introduced many ideas to art that were new for his time, for example, his technique of smoky backgrounds brought life to his paintings. By the age of twenty, he was a master artist. As he included mathematics to his art, he precisely incorporated his beliefs about nature. His most known pieces include The Last Supper and The Mona Lisa. Leonardo De Vinci is considered to be one of the greatest artists and naturalists to ever live.
Mona Lisa is famous for many reasons one because most of the artwork during the Renaissance period were of biblical events and scenes. Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa stood out among those artworks because it was not of a religious text or martyr. The painting is an introduction to sfumato which is a technique Da Vinci used at the corners of Mona Lisa’s lips and the corners of her eyes exploring natural emotion along with detailed realness of her hands. Mona Lisa is an excellent example of created illusions of space and depth within its beautiful landscape muted in the background (Totally History, 2012).
On behalf of the Brisbane Museum, I welcome you to the exhibition of Renaissance Change Maker Leonardo da Vinci’s renowned painting, the Mona Lisa. Today, I will prove that Leonardo da Vinci significantly influenced the Italian Renaissance through his world famous painting the Mona Lisa. Created around 1503, he changed the art world through his new techniques, attention to detail and the appreciation for beauty portrayed through his works.
Aphrodite is a deity that was known as an Olympian goddess of several things like beauty, pleasure, and procreation. Aphrodite's main role was to assure no women died a virgin. In order for her to do so she helped men charm women with love spells. Aphrodite was known as “the most beautiful of all goddesses in terms of appearance” (“Aphrodite”). But she was also flawed personality wise, she “was rather damaged because she is described as weak and frightened as well as ill-tempered and easily offended” (“Aphrodite”).
This role play will take place thousands of years in the future aboard the Aphrodite. The Aphrodite is a very advanced luxury space craft, with a crew of highly trained individuals that treat the Aphrodite’s guests to all the pleasures of the mind and body. After hundreds of years of smooth sailing across the galaxy the Aphrodite has become the most popular get away in the galaxy, that was until the ship took on an uninvited guest.
The two portraits are associated with mysteries that have baffled analysts and historians for many years. First, the identity of the women was vastly unknown. The exact identity of the woman in the Mona Lisa has remained a mystery. While searching for answers, historians sought to know the time when the portrait was created. According to them, the portrait must have been created when Francesco Del Giocondo and his wife purchased a house in 1503 or during the birth of their son in 1502. Thus, some analysts conclude that the portrait was dedicated to the wife of Francesco Del Giocondo. The nature of clothing often backs the argument. The gown and scarf represented an aristocratic status. The
