Historic social activist, humanitarian, and Baptist minister, Martin Luther King Jr., prepared a speech, “I Have a Dream”, to advocate his beliefs on what was occurring during the Civil Rights Movement. King’s purpose is to change the beliefs of the American people who are part of the civil rights movement and to get them all on the same page of equality and freedom. He supported the civil rights movement and wanted to end the segregation of blacks and whites all throughout the nation. Although the African-Americans were considered free at this time, they were discriminated and victimized ruthlessly. This outraged people from all around, they believed that they were being treated unfairly and wanted to see change once and for all. King states, “Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children” (King Jr.). The burning passion caused King to create this whole movement. He alludes to the bible in hope of reaching out to the religious aspect of the nation, and hit them right in the part of their life that affects them all. It would affect them all in the sense that due to the fact that the majority of the nation were religious in a sense, they all would feel as if King’s arguments were supported from the church and his facts that were being presented are, in fact, true and that this could change their perspective of the civil rights movement.
