The United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom were alive with economic growth and widespread prosperity in the 1920’s. Know as the “Roaring Twenties,” because of its distinctive cultural edge and industrial growth. This era has many new inventions and scientific advancements; making it a truly unique time period especially in medical practices. Life expectancy was greatly improved and the 20’s contributed many breakthroughs in medicine that we take for granted today. The Roaring Twenties has brilliant advancements such as penicillin, insulin, and the iron lung. Penicillin is an antibiotic used in fighting infections. A Scottish scientist named Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin in 1928. One of the first examples of the power
The 1920s was a decade of many inventions after WWI when soldiers had returned home. People were able to enjoy themselves more from making more money and new technologies. This era was also a time where medicine advanced more, due to that less people were getting sick and more people were staying healthy. This decade of change allowed many Americans to own new technologies and different inventions they never had or thought about before.
After World War 1, America had to demobilize and revert back to a peace time economy. During the 1920’s, it was viewed as a prosperous economy since there was a new labor force due to demobilization, new inventions, and a new infrastructure. Also moral spirits were high since America along with the Allied Powers defeated Germany and the Great War was finally over. However, America began making many economic policies and decisions that will eventually lead up to the Great Depression.
One of the most interesting and influential time frames in the history of America was the 1920’s, or the Roaring Twenties. The Roaring Twenties was in the decade of the 20’s (1920 to 1929) and was called the “Roaring Twenties” because people in America just boomed. World War I just ended and people prospered because of it. The society was like a well-oiled machine, with everyone dancing and using similar slang, and a lot of people enjoyed it. Not everything was great, because this was also the time where prohibition of alcohol came into play, and the Ku Klux Klan gained popularity as a result. Even though all of these were prevalent at the time, how did the Twenties affect history as a whole?

Economic conditions gave people a feeling of economic prosperity. They also allowed people to buy a lot of things on credit. Developments in the arts and entertainment created a culture of free expression by granting women the ability to express their opinions more clearly than they were able to in years prior and encouraging jazz and dancing.

The 1920s often referred to as “roaring twenties” is one of the most remarkable periods because of technological advances, and scientific discoveries. Many of the inventions made during the 20s such as Insulin, Penicillin and Traffic Signals have saved numerous lives. With the invention of Vacuum Cleaner, Washing Machine, Electric Dishwasher and Refrigerator household chores have gotten much easier. Due to the advances in technology and scientific discoveries made in the 1920s, inventors and scientists today are able to study the previous work and take the invention one step farther (Inventions in the 1920s).
The Roaring Twenties of America, which was from 1920-1929, saw a great social and economic prosperity. People were happy, and were celebrating the victory of World War 1. The gasoline price was lowered, right to vote for women was granted, and America was climbing towards a great success. In 1929, Herbert Hoover became the president of the United States of America, and he said, “ Given a chance to go forward with the policies of the last eight years, we shall soon with the help of God be in sight of the day when poverty will be banished from this nation”(Roark, Pg. 703). After few months of his inauguration, his words contradicted, the Roaring Twenties halted. During the Roaring Twenties, the stock market prices increased steeply. The rapid
The 1920s, or better known as the roaring twenties changed the lives of women in America politically, physically and mentally. Women were granted more freedom, the right to vote, changed their physical appearance, and focused on materialistic goals instead of moral values. Before World War I, women would wear a high collar, long straight skirts below the knee and long hair that was tied loosely. The roaring twenties brought along swing dancing and jazz which changed the way women dressed and danced. Not only did the roaring twenties bring along flourishing taste in music, but flappers came into play. Flappers were women who wore short sparkly dresses, cut their hair into a bob, wore heavy make-up, drank alcohol, smoked cigarettes and partied all night.
Henry Ford once said, “If everything is moving forward together then success takes care of itself”. Society has been revising how we live for centuries and still continues to do so. Naturally, we look for ways to improve humanity and make the world a better place to live. One critical contributor to the success of society in the 1920s was Henry Ford. Henry Ford’s ingenuity gave birth to something that would revolutionize society for years to come. This was the beginning of a new era. Henry Ford’s automobiles revolutionized civilization in many aspects. Innovations in technology and how it’s made impacted people’s lives in the 1920s and modern-day life.
The 1920’s were a time of change. New ideas were becoming more readily experimented with and even accepted by large portions of the population. Some of these included jazz music and the fight against the alcoholic prohibition. The radical idea I will focus on in this paper, however, is Evolution. It is a theory that had been around for over half a century before the 20’s but had only more recently caught on in the US. It contradicted the Christian theory of Divine Creation as described in the Bible. This caused many religious fundamentalists to fight against it. They took their battle to the law books, and they were challenged by pro-evolution modernists in the Scopes "Monkey Trial" of 1925.
The Roaring Twenties brought many cultural changes to the United States and Europe, which have had many lasting effects. The roles of women changed tremendously and alcohol became banned, but people found many loopholes, also many new inventions and ways of life came about.

During the 1920s, there occur several social and political changes occurred. For the first time, Americans began to step out of their comfort circles. Nicknames for the decade, such as “the Jazz Age” or “the Roaring Twenties,” in a way express all of the excitement it was like to have lived through out such a time.
