Courage is defined as "the quality of mind or spirit enabling one to meet danger or opposition with fearlessness." According to Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird, "Courage is when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." (pg.121). Harper Lee clearly portrays the theme of courage in her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. One likes to think of a hero, as strong, brave, and meeting all challenges head on. All the characters in this book have a different view as to what courage
In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred D Taylor put in a great example of how some people are not brought up knowing about racism when Cassie goes to Strawberry for the first time. She was excited, but it was not all that she hoped because it is there where she learns about racism, because it is all around. Cassie describes her day as cruel she is at the market, the store, or even just walking down the sidewalk.
Courage is shown when a character stands up for what they think and express. In roll of thunder hear my cry, Stacey shows the most courage by going to help T.J, digging the trench, and staying with T.J when he was wanted.

It all starts when he thinks up a very creative plan to stop the bus, then it advances to Stacey fighting T.J., and also as he helped T.J when he was hurt. Courage doesn't rely on the wealthy or the poor, it relies on the brave people's actions of the world. In the book, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred Taylor introduces us to a young girl, named Cassie that wants to stand up for her beliefs even though there were many road blocks throughout this book. There are many ways that Cassie showed courage, but I chose three of her quotes. They were when Cassie stood with Little Man and helped him, she tried to stand up to Mr.Barnette, and she stood up to Lillian Jean Simms. Cassie´s actions proved that she wanted to make the racist part of her world, not really be there anymore, so she could have a fair life. She was sassy and very outspoken because she always stood up to white people and I think
“When the land was up for sell again, Grandpa had bought two hundred acres of it, and in 19I8, after the first two hundred acres had been paid off, he had bought another two hundred, It was goodrich land, much of it still virgin forest, and there was no debt on half of it. In the book Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, I think that the theme is Never give up. A character that I believe shows and displays these characteristics throughout the book is Papa also known as David Logan. One of his character traits that I believe drives the theme is his determination. Papa faces many challenges throughout the book. Some of the challenges took more time to recover from than others.
Courage requires action, not age, strength, or toughness. In Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry Mildred D. Taylor uses Stacy as a symbol of courage during racism. Stacy is a strong, brave, courageous, mentally tough, and loyal young black child. Stacy proves is courage by fighting his rival T.J. Avery, helping T.J., and he stops a hanging with his dad and a friend of his dad’s.
In the novel, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry there are several characters who have demonstrated an enormous amount of courage such as Mr.Morrison. Mr.Morrison has shown many acts of courage such as in the book T.j and Stacey get into a fight because of T.j cheating and passing it to stacey to get rid of them but mama caught them and only stacey got whipped. So they reached the wallace store and fought until Mr. Morrison came in picking them off of eachother with the white men upset. Another act that Mr. Morrison had done was as papa, stacey, and Mr. Morrison where heading back from vicksburg they stopped because a wheel had popped off from the wagon and they would have to fix it and get of the road first. Until a truck came with no noise with
