When Romeo took his own life with the apothecary's poison, Juliet wakes up. Friar comes in and tells her Romeo is dead. Juliet then tells him to leave and kisses Romeo's lips, hoping there would still be some poison to kill her. She hears noise and says "Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief. O happy dagger, This is thy sheath. There rust and let me die." (V.iii.183-184) then stabs herself. Juliet could have left with Friar, but she had a deep passion of love for Romeo. She takes her own life because of her love for Romeo, just like Romeo took his own because of his love for Juliet. It would be way different if Juliet did not actually truly love Romeo. Everything would have changed if Juliet just had a short romance with
Romeo and Juliet both suicide after seeing each other dead. After Romeo hears about Juliet’s death, he goes to her tomb to see her one last time and kiss her before he suicides. “Here’s to my love. O true apothecary,/Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die”(V.iii.119-120). Romeo should have overlooked his quick thoughts of suicide, and should have realized how much he still had to live for. The aftermath of this action was that both Romeo and Juliet both end up dead in the final tragedy. After Juliet sees Romeo dead, she decides to kill herself with a dagger. “Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief. O, happy dagger,/This is thy sheath. There rust, and let me die”(V.iii.174-175). This evidence is an example of the consequences that can occur after a hasty, sad-driven decision. If Romeo did not suicide while under the influence of his emotions, both Romeo and Juliet would have lived, and the ultimate, final tragedy of the play would have been avoided, but instead, Romeo’s emotions misguided him to choose the awful decision of suicide. These actions reveal how quickly sadness leads to horrendous repercussions due to the actions that it
When someone loses or doesn’t get the affection from the person they love, they often take extreme measure. In the text as Benedict states, “And when rejected, some people contemplate stalking, homicide, suicide. This drive for romantic love can be stronger than the will to live.”In act 5, scene 3 of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo gets the news of Juliet being dead, so his plan is to join her in death. He tells the apothecary to break the law because it doesn’t help with anything. To relate to his situation, the law cares nothing about his love, and so he’s breaking it. Romeo buys poison because he knows he wouldn’t be able to survive without her. When we have lost the person we love there is a feeling of emptiness and a person feels as though they
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare was a tragedy. Romeo and Juliet face many conflicts such as their families absolutely hating each other. If anyone in either of the families finds quite a few of them will die. Romeo is very sensitive and impulsive during this time in his life. Romeo is going through a lot and needs to make tough decisions. Juliet acts childish and stubborn during this section of her life. Juliet also needs to make some life changing decisions during this part of her life. Neither of them know what they’re doing, and all they know is that they love each other. You can characterize both the characters Romeo and Juliet as rash, since they don’t do a lot of thinking before making a lot of decisions. Romeo and Juliet don’t
In the final scene, Romeo’s thoughts and actions are very rash when he decides to kill himself. When Romeo is told that Juliet has died, he immediately decides to kill himself. Romeo does not think of the pain and suffering that will come to his family and friends if he kills himself. Again, Romeo acts without thinking of the consequences of his actions. He has done without thought a sin that is not necessary and that could be avoided. Once again Romeo’s rashness brings causes problems and brings sadness to people that he loves.
As the play starts to end Friar says “A thing like death to, chide away this shame, that cop’st with death himself to scape from it; and if thou darest, I’ll give there remedy.” (Act 4 scene 1 page 65). As friar said this, he was basically telling Juliet he has a way out of this marriage with Paris, but they are too hasty with death, they could've thought of another idea like running away and not having a big trouble at the end. As Romeo sees Juliet in the ending act he does “Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on The dashing rocks thy sea-sick weary bark! Here’s to my love [Drinks] O true apothec’ry, Thy drugs are quick. [kisses her] Thus with a kiss I die. [Dies]” (Act 5 scene 3 Page 80). This reveals that Romeo found Juliet dead and kills himself her his love for her, it also shows that Romeo made a decision way too fast and put no thought in it. But as the play ended Romeo and Juliet kill themselves for each other and ends up to be a really bad
Juliet chooses to fake her, and one of Romeo’s men catch word of it and deliver the news to Romeo. As Romeo races back to Verona, Friar John was on his way to deliver the truth to Romeo but couldn’t make it to him in time. Romeo breaks into the Capulet tomb to see Juliet for himself. When he does see that Juliet is “dead” he does not choose to live any longer and decides to end his life by drinking a poison. When Juliet awakes and sees Romeo dead next to her she cries and tries to drink from the bottle the poison was in so she could die as well since there was nothing left in the bottle she decided to grab Romeo’s dagger and stab herself, and so she
As the story of Romeo and Juliet further progresses, Romeo’s true character becomes more and more apparent; he seems to act solely by impulse. Romeo acts moreso with his emotions, and sudden thoughts than his brain which stores reason and logic. This causes for tragedy and unfortunate circumstance by the end of the poem. This shows how impulsive he is in most of his decisions and how he tends to be very dramatic in everything that he does. When Romeo discovers that Juliet is dead, he almost immediately dramatically decides to drink poison, to kill himself. “Here’s to love, O true apothecary, thy drugs are quick - thus with a kiss I die.” Which shows how quickly he makes wrash and dramatic decisions without thinking it through. If Romeo had not been so careless and impulsive in his decision, Juliet would have awoken and they would both still be alive.
As Shakespeare writes in Romeo and Juliet, “There is thy gold, worse poison to men’s souls”(5.2.84). This shows Romeo buying poison which he will use later to kill him self. When Romeo arrives to the fake grave of Juliet he takes the poison and kills himself. As Shakespeare writes in Romeo and Juliet, “Here’s to my love. O true apothecary, thy drugs are quick. Thou with a kiss I die”(5.3.119-120). After Romeo killing himself Juliet awakes from her sleep and see’s Romeo is dead and kills herself to. As Shakespeare writes in Romeo and Juliet, Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief. O, happy dragger, this is thy sheath, there rust, and let me die. This shows Juliet killing herself after seeing Romeo
Romeo and Juliet is known as one of the most popular love stories ever written. However, the play is not about love, but about death. William Shakespeare wrote this play to warn readers about the danger of hatred and impulsive actions. Romeo’s love for Juliet and his impulsive nature contributed to the deaths of Tybalt, Mercutio, Juliet, Paris, Lady Montague , and Romeo himself.
Famous singer-songwriter, Sinéad O’Connor once said “When you’re young, you don’t really know quite what you’re aiming at. You’re very impulsive and acting on impulse, which is very important and valuable. But you’re kind of swimming in a blind sea. When you get older, you have more of a sense of direction”(BrainyQuote). Adolescents typically make impulsive decisions when influenced by something important to them. Romeo and Juliet’s families are enemies, yet they fall in love in the matter of five days and make a impulsive decision to get married which end up costing them their lives. Romeo gets exiled and says he would rather die than be without Juliet and when Romeo does end up killing himself Juliet does the same because she will not live without Romeo. In Romeo and Juliet, William
Romeo and Juliet is a renowned play by the widely known, William Shakespeare. However, I will only be talking about act II, scene III of this play. In this part of the story, the relationship between Friar Lawrence and Romeo is shown. Although they are years apart in age, they seem to have a brotherly relationship. In this act and scene, the reader, or actor, has a chance to understand the characters better. You are able to find character traits. For instance, Romeo is impulsive, dramatic, and reckless. Also, Friar Lawrence is attentive, hopeful, and very trustworthy.
The ending of Shakespeare’s famous play Romeo & Juliet, is devastating yet expected, as the “pair of star-cross’d lovers” (Prologue.9) dramatically kill themselves, leaving their friends and family in pure shock and sadness. In the play, the situations leading up to this dreadful incident should be blamed on the lovers themselves, as well as their secrecy with the absurd relationship that was caused by the couple’s family feud which definitely takes the blame for the double suicide. A long string of events that happened which lead to these deaths, were triggered by these three situations.
In the play Romeo and Juliet, the character Juliet acts impulsively on decisions which eventually leads to her death. To be impulsive means to do things suddenly without careful thought. Juliet’s flaw is revealed in the story when she meets Romeo at her balcony in the middle of the night. Juliet tells Romeo, “ If that thy bent of love be honorable, thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow” (2.2.150-151). Juliet has only known Romeo for a few hours, since meeting at the party Romeo crashed.
Finally, Romeo demonstrates himself as a Tragic hero through his impulsiveness and impatience because his quick reaction results in the demise of other characters in the story. When Juliet awakes from her rest to find Romeo had killed himself just seconds before she reacts the same. Juliet picks up romeo's dagger and says “O happy dagger is thy sheath let me rust and die. (5.3 169-170)” Then stabs herself in the cheats ending her life. Along with their two star crossed lovers Lady Montague met her demise. At a meeting with the Prince of Verona and the Capulets Montague explains “ Alas, my liege, my wife is dead tonight! Grief of my son’s exile stopped her breath.” In this quote Romeo’s father explains that his wife killed
O, happy dagger, / This is thy sheath. There rust, and let me die.” (5.3.174-175) Juliet's actions work to prove how her burning love for Romeo has given her tunnel vision that is just as destructive as Romeo’s. Her tunnel vision has made it impossible for her to see any other option and so she decides to kill herself.
