Rough Draft Like the quote says “Love make people do crazy things.” In this play by William Shakespeare it tells the story of teens who fall in love on a sunday, get married the next day and unintentionally cause the deaths of six family members including them by thursday. The non-sense of these teens could however be logically explained by, Sarah-Jayne Blakemore a cognitive neuroscientist who uses advanced technology like MRI research to further understand the brain. Sarah-Jayne Blakemore’s research suggest that during teenage years the brain is still developing including the prefrontal cortex this growth leads to risk taking, difficult to control emotions and impulsive decisions which romeo and juliet show these signs.Sarah-Jayne Blakemore’s thesis on adolescent development sheds light on some of the nonsensical decision making in William Shakespeare’s romeo and juliet as characters certainly face the impulsive behavior, mood swings, and risk taking she describes. …show more content…
Here is an example of how romeo can't control his emotions “An if a man did need a poison now.” In that quote it shows how he isn't thinking clearly and his emotions are controlling him romeo one second is happy then he is saying he needs poison to kill himself just because he heard that juliet was supposedly dead. Another time when he couldnt control his emotions was when mercutio died and he was so mad that when he saw tybalt he killed him.If romeo would have controlled his emotions and thought tybalt is gonna get punished by the law anyway he wouldn't be in this
Throughout the play, “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet”, many different types of love are shown, however, I believe loyal, parental love, and romantic love are the most popular and influential types of love throughout the story. The Capulets and Montagues show loyalty for their house, the friar shows parental love for Romeo as the nurse shows parental love for Juliet, and Romeo and Juliet show romantic love for each other. These three types of love, loyal love, parental love, and romantic love, show many similarities to one another as they do differences.
Juliet expressed her love for Romeo by stating “My only love sprung from my only hate.” In Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, there are many examples in which the main characters show lack of common sense. Romeo and Juliet were from two houses that had a fued, yet they managed to find love in the desperate of times. The play was based around the tragic, yet romantic, story of the forbidden star-crossed lover. However, some of the impulsive choices made throughout the play question whether what Romeo and Juliet had was love or lust. Many studies although have proved that the lack of common knowledge is because of the undeveloped brain. With this, scientists have dug deeper and found out that the reward system for adolescents is highly superior to the risk factor. Knowing this valuable information, some may conclude that the decisions made in the play might have
Quotation 6: “Evermore weeping for your cousin's death?/ What, wilt thou wash him from his grave with tears?/ An if thou couldst, thou couldst not make him live;/ Therefore have done. Some grief shows much of love,/ But much of grief shows still some want of wit.” (Rom. 3. 5. 71-76)
Tybalt, a committed Capulet, always showing superior towards Montagues, is the perfect example of personification of hate in Romeo and Juliet. Tybalt plays an important character in Romeo and Juliet because of his aggressive and arrogant personality which causes major conflicts and catastrophes.
The parents sadly watch their children being carried into the family tomb. The play, by William Shakespeare, displays the relationships of Romeo and Juliet. This drama takes place in Verona, Italy, where the Capulets and Montagues are feuding. Poor relationships, deceit, and poor advice leads to tragedy. The teenagers relationships with their families are soon tested.
To begin with, teenagers, like Romeo and Juliet, don’t yet have a fully mature brain to make wise and reasonable decisions. In particular, the region of Romeo and Juliet’s brain that assists in making knowledgeable decisions, the prefrontal cortex, also recognized as the frontal lobes, are not completely connected until the mid 20’s. Dr. Adriana Galaván, a Director and Principal Investigator of the Developmental Neuroscience Laboratory, with an expertise in adolescent brain development, commented in her Ted Talk that “the prefrontal cortex is the part of your brain that helps you think of the consequences or potential consequences of your actions before you do them, it helps you regulate your behavior and your emotions”. Throughout the book, Romeo and Juliet have
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. Both Romeo and Juliet are young and sprightly teenagers, Romeo being 15-16 and Juliet with the age of 13. They are teens that make impulsive decisions without thinking about the consequences. David Dobbs the author of the article “Beautiful Brains” explains why teenagers act the way they do throughout scientific research and studies. This article helps to understand Romeos and Juliets actions which led to their deaths.
As Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “The old law of ‘an eye for an eye’ leaves everybody blind.” By this, King is implying that revenge does not solve any issues, but instead affects multiple people who are involved in a conflict. Revenge is defined as the act of harming someone for any aggression towards another. “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet,” written by William Shakespeare, gives an excellent example that the thirst for vengeance can ruin everyone who is connected. Some examples of the play are Romeo and Tybalt, whose actions caused them to meet an unfaithful end. Their actions, which were guided by hatred, not only affected them, but both of their families. Romeo and Tybalt’s actions show that revenge itself can lead to great losses,
“The devil takes a hand in what is done in haste”. Haste is a major theme shown throughout William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet. Many of the characters were impetuous in their actions and as a result, the consequences were tragic. The play itself unfolds throughout 4 short days. Lord Capulet was too eager in his desire for Juliet’s marriage to Paris, which ultimately led to her betrayal. Romeo’s rash decision to fall in love with Juliet soon became fatal. Juliet’s impulsive decision to avoid marriage ended her own life.
I think this quote is important because this is when the nurse found Juliet after she faked her death to be with Romeo, and because of that she will never see her family again. When Juliet took the potion she knew she was risking everything, and knew she might not see her family again. Her parents and the nurse are now filled with grief from her death that will stay with them throughout the rest of the story. Overall, this quote was the first to announced Juliet's plan to fake her death worked, and now the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is even closer.
In a cold winter night snow is falling, the trees blowing, the feeling of being followed, That is the feeling of fear. Fear is a common feeling that all people have. In Romeo and Juliet fear is shown on every turn. In Shakespeare’s plays he shows examples of fear, when Romeo and Juliet get married, when Juliet drinks the potion, and when Romeo gets banished
“O, I am fortune’s fool!” (Rom. 3.1.14). Romeo says this line in shock as he realizes that he killed Tybalt. In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, star crossed lovers are faced with the hardest challenge in life, and fate is not on their side. Fate is most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
“Let me die.”Juliet spoke these last words in the play “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare. This play is a tradictic love story of two people that were forbidden to be with each other. Gender, age, and family affiliation all play an important role when it comes to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
Romeo and Juliet versus the Teenage Brain “Impulsive action led to trouble, and trouble could have unpleasant consequences”- Stieg Larsson. “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” is a famous play by William Shakespeare and focuses on the relationship of two teenagers, Romeo and Juliet. This play is littered with their impulsive and hasty decisions which ultimately leads to their deaths. Their impulsive behavior can be explained by the psychology of the teenage brain and its quirks. During the second scene of Act II, Romeo and Juliet decide to get married after having met hours before at the Capulet party.
As soon as Juliet becomes introduced into the play, it is evident that Juliet treasures her family’s thoughts and opinions. Juliet’s parents see and highlight her different character traits in the opening acts of the play. Her father believes Juliet’s innocence will be forever, where as her mother’s actions emphasize her obedience and loyalty to her family. Juliet’s obedience and loyalty towards her mother demonstrates she has great respect for her elders. Juliet, her mother and Nurse have an in depth conversion regarding marriage before the masquerade ball.
