Assistant Navy Secretary Theodore Roosevelt joined the cavalry as a volunteer. He became Commander of this Cavalry Regiment. The regiment that was knows as the Rough Riders brought together volunteers from all over the nation. When Roosevelt and the other men landed in Cuba, they came into intense enemy fire, they faced ambushes and they were very outnumbered. The Rough Riders were very courageous men that stood up for what they believed in and didn’t give up without a fight. The men fought in the Spanish- American War in 1898. One of the things in the movie that happened in the movie
Stagecoach is a western movie that has several features to it. People do things for pride and protection. People can come together at the end and work together. In this film, these two features are portrayed in various parts of the movie. This film touches upon pride. People are prideful of what they do or have done. A shotgun person was needed and Curly took the job. He is a prideful sheriff that decided to take shotgun when no one else wanted to. His role in the film can be portrayed bigger. He represents what the law stands for. People like Curly have great pride for what they stand for. This film also shows how someone stays and protects the people in need. Ringo could have escaped and be free. He noticed that the rest of the group were
American ships were sent over to Cuba, where they blockaded the Spanish fleet. American soldiers would have to be sent in behind the Spanish to flank them and force them out. 17,000 American soldiers were landed near Santiago, and the fighting commenced from there. Colonel Roosevelt and his Rough Riders fiercely attacked the enemies, pushing them back. They were closing in on Santiago, which forced Santiago and his fleet to flee the harbor and into the Blockade of superior American warships that were waiting for them. Santiago surrendered shortly after.
The Hawaii island fought back and it took the u.s four times more troops to fight them then in Cuba. T. Roosevelt came home from Cuba and got nominated a Governor and some people there didn't like him so they had him run for vice president. McKinley and Roosevelt were easily elected. No one knew that there was an assassin ready
This power struggle, between the forces of Castro and those of the United States, for control of the island of Cuba, began during the night of April 17, 1961, when landing boats containing members of Brigade 2506 landed on the beaches at the Bahia de Cochinos on the island of Cuba, also known as the Bay of Pigs. According to Dr. Mario Lazo (1968), an eye witness to the invasion and is a lawyer with experience in US government affairs, in his book Dagger in the Heart: American Policy Failures in Cuba, upon landing, the invaders, Cuban exiles, were at first successful in pushing the defenders of the beachheads back, but the going was slow (p. 295-296). These defenders were local
The differences which indicate a film 's story and a film 's plot are the “what and the how”.
When the exiles landed on the beach they were destroyed by Cuban combatants, led by Castro himself, in the space of twenty four hours. Despite US efforts to hide their involvement it was soon discovered that they had hired the
On February 4, 1974, a director by the name of Mel Brooks produce a very entertaining Western film “Blazing Saddles”, starring Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder. The movie took place in a town from the Old West scenery in a town called Rock Ridge. In the town a man by the Hedley Lamarr a shady land speculator need to have a railroad that runs through the town of Rock Ridge, but to have the railroad run through the town he need to figure out a way to get the, residents out of the town.
America in the 1960’s was a time of turbulence and chaos. A nation divided in the midst of the counterculture movement that was sparked by a generational split and fueled by the Vietnam War, America was struggling for change. The New Hollywood took these issues into account and translated them onscreen. Films of the New Hollywood centered around the protagonist, often depicting them as an anti-hero, who suffered from alienation and conflict within society. In the film ‘Easy Rider’ these themes are exemplified through its reinvention of the Western genre. Dennis Hopper uses this film as a way to convey ideas of the Western by placing into a modern setting that embodies the feeling of 1960’s America.
Still no Blaxploitation film can ever reach the success as seen in Mel Brooks’s masterpiece Blazing Saddles. Cleavon Little and even Gene Wilder give an epic performance that most likely would have never been made today era. Cleavon Little stars as Sheriff Bart who was a former railroad work who was about to be hanged, when he is appointed to the town of Rock Ridge. The main villain believed that the town would leave, and his plan to build a railroad through there would work. The opening scene in the film, where Sheriff Bart comes ever so closer to the townspeople is funny. The townspeople have made welcome signs, the band playing, and that guy on the tower is trying to tell the folks he is black is a very classic scene, but still would be
Although Eisenhower, Kennedy and other high ranking U.S. officials denied any plans to attack Cuba, on October 31, 1960, Cuban Foreign Minister Raul Roa, in a session at the U.N. General Assembly, provided details on the recruitment and training of the Cuban exiles, whom he referred to as mercenaries and counterrevolutionaries. It was clear to Kennedy that Cuba knew an invasion was coming. Therefore, he changed the original plan, which called for a daytime landing at Trinidad, as well as extensive air strikes to weaken Castro’s counteroffensive. Kennedy thought the plan exposed the role of the United States too openly, and favored a nighttime landing at Bay of Pigs, which offered a suitable airstrip on the beach from which bombing raids could be operated. Once the bay was secured, the provisional Cuban government-in-arms set up by the CIA would be landed and immediately recognized by the U.S. The new government would request military support and a new “intervention” would take place.
So, when word gets back to America “that Cuba slaughtered rebels and were feeding them to the dogs and that Spanish children were using Cuban ears as plaything” pressure came down on President McKinley to find a quick resolution because he knew that Cuban rebellion was a threat American

True Grit is an excellent example of a Western in respect to its setting. As we learned in the book this week, a traditional western is commonly set between the years “1865 and 1900” and takes place in the Southwest or West United States (page 407). This story takes place in Fort Smith, Arkansas and the Indian territory, which are in Southwest United States, thus fulfilling the traditional Western location setting. Although we don’t know specifically what year this movie takes place, we can assume from the culture that it was between 1865 and 1900. People in the movie act as people would have in that time and have the technology for that time period.
There are many ways to review this movie. One is by looking at it objectively, examining how the film is put together, analyzing the script by pointing out every logical gap that is present in the film and also by analyzing the characters in it. The other way to write a review about this movie is to not dig deep and just by stating the obvious mistake about it. I'll be using the first way to write a review about this movie.
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of ‘Rocky’, it’s not only required viewing for every boxer to ever step foot in the ring, but it’s also the kind of film that needs to be shown in schools. Motivation is difficult to come by these days, in a climate fundamentally riddled with people and companies prying for your attention, it can be difficult to find a moment of peace and solitude. That first ‘Rocky’ is a film that can get you out of any sort of slump, be it emotional or physical. Southpaw’ is eyeing the champ, this film is looking to go toe to toe with ‘Rocky’, and it’s not one that should be easily written off.
