When a disaster, such as a flood or heavy storm, hits it can be devastating. Water can easily damage most of your belongings; but if you are like most people, you probably aren't mourning the loss of your stove. Instead, you are probably mourning the loss of precious memories and family heirlooms. While it may seem like a difficult task, you can save water damaged photos and scrapbooks. Here are four tips for salvaging water-damaged pictures: 1. Move Quickly Time is of the essence when trying to salvage waterlogged pictures. However, you must do this very carefully. Use a gentle stream of water to remove the debris. In addition, try not to touch the surface of the photo with your fingers, as this may cause the colors to bleed or smudge off. You should also be careful to avoid touching the surface of the wet photo to anything, as it may permanently ruin the picture. 3. Let Photos Air Dry When you are ready to dry out your pictures, lay them out on a flat surface to dry. They need to air dry, so do not try to rush the process with a blow dryer—as it may cause additional damage. To dry the pictures, lay them face up on a clean towel or paper towels. If the towels become wet, change them to keep your pictures clean and dry. Also, be sure to avoid drying the photos outside in the sun. While the sun may speed the drying process, it can bleach out the photos. 4. Take Photos Out of Frames If you have any photos in frames that were in the water, make sure you remove the pictures quickly.
