Hunting is an ecological problem that it is happening in our nature. Countries like South Africa experience this situation because people who hunt do not realized how harmful this activity is for everyone. Many people who practice hunting have to follow the rules about getting a rhino. These people are allowed to do this activity in their country this is the case in South Africa. The people who hunted the rhinos tend to decide how to use this animal resource. The rhinos are used to make a lot stuff, includes some vanity purpose and in the medical field. The rhino in South Africa is an animal that is in a dangerous situation, because people in South Africa hung like sport but also they kill rhino because they are poor and the rhino are …show more content…
The rhinos are part of their ecosystem and protecting them prevents their destruction. This is possible can be seen in the Journal of Ecology, “rhinos maintain the diverse African grasslands on which countless other species depend. Surprisingly, prior to this study, no one had looked closely rhinos ‘roles in shaping the ecosystem” (Rachel Nuwer, 1-2). Basically the ecosystem is depending of the present of the rhinos because they are complementing the nature. Rhinos are a part of their ecosystem and protecting them prevent the destruction the food hierarchy. As is this problem becomes worse in South Africa because people do not respect the limits in their lives when they hunt the rhinos. These people become criminals and they be a part of the crime organization when they sell the rhinos to people how sell this animal outside to Vietnam. Dealing with people who work illegally trade is awful situation that the authorities need to stop to protect and prevent the destruction of these animals. Vietnam is one the place who works with the rhino horn. The South Africa- Vietnam Rhino Horn Trade Nexus cites, “historically, rhino horn
One of the many problems of poaching is that many animal species are being hunted to the point of extinction. For example, thousands of African Elephants are being killed each year. According to (“Poaching”), “In September
To begin with, trophy hunting should not be allowed because trophy hunting can be harmful to endangered species. According to Junior Scholastic it states that “Africa has lost up to 60% of its large wild life.” The text also states that
Trophy hunting is the selective hunting of wild game for human recreation. Every year, thousands of wild animals are killed to be obtained as a prize and to be showcased. Instead of being treated as living beings in nature, they are treated as materialistic objects by humans. Endangered species are the ones who are greatly being affected by those who are trying to obtain them. Trophy hunting is most well known for its practices in African countries and ties to North America. Since the 1800s, trophy hunting has brought about social, political, and economic issues that extend beyond the American borders.
In the nonfiction book Ivory, Horn, and Blood by Ronald Orenstein, the author discusses his opinions on the topic of poaching elephants and rhinos. Orenstein believes that poaching is morally wrong, unnecessary, and should be stopped. He refrains from using emotional words, instead focusing on and providing startling statistics and horrifying facts.
Because of the poaching of game like the elephant, the number of species will start to diminish. What hunters brought to the villages of Botswana was the money and the meat from the animals to feed the many people that go hungry everyday. Hunters that would take animals such as an elephant wouldn’t take any of the meat for themselves but rather they give all of the meat to the villages in the area. However, when poaching starts to take over, there will be zero meat or money that will be put back into the community. Poachers that kill elephants are only after one thing and that is the ivory from the elephant tusks. After taking the tusks, the elephant is left to rot. Another animal that is sought after by poachers in Botswana is the rhino. The rhino is poached for their horns, which are supposedly an aphrodisiac in China so the demand is high. Because of these effects, groups like SCI are so important to different places around the world. The money brought in by the hunters is used to hire conservation officers to protect the rhinos and elephants and to buy land that will be put into game preserves so the numbers of these species will increase because there aren’t any pressures from hunting or
Trophy hunting has always been an issue in our society and still is to this day. Trophy hunting is the hunting of an animal that is usually kept and displayed by the hunter. We cannot blame Africa for the extinction of many of it’s animals, we have to blame the trophy hunters who have massacred these beautiful animals. The reason why trophy hunting should be banned is because of the risk many animals face of going extinct and because of the lack of respect it has towards animals. It is also driving us into our sixth mass extinction.
Whether we like it or not animals really make the world go around. Like cows who just by breathing create oxygen, to other animals who with their migrations that leave paths throughout are foothills. And yes even fertilizing the land with their discharge. Although these creatures who have been roaming the lands long before any of us , have been altered with our interference of hunger and need which has now made hunting a billion dollar company. Like most companies you would expect viewpoints to clash causing controversy. A podcast by the name of the Rhino Hunter brings this up showing how the auctioning off of rare animals is beneficial. They in fact action a “older Black Rhino, that with age was Hurting others”. This idea along with other
And while some try to save these animals from extinction, others only want to kill them for profit. These poachers have wiped all of the Northern White Rhinos in the wild. They sell the ivory from their horn for large sums of money. Now only 3 Northern White Rhinos survive in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, all have passed the age in which they were able to breed naturally, so they will either become
Trophy Hunters don’t always hunt the endangered species; they also hunt species that are overpopulated so the population of that species can stay under control. Dr. Michael H Knight and Dr. Richard Emslie, the chairman and the scientific officer of IUCN SSC African Rhino Specialist Group state “the killing of two old white rhino in 2012 paid for 49% of a $377,000 high-tech security fence”(Knight, Emslie). The hunt helped the reserve pay for a fence that could save the animals on the reserve from many dangers like poachers. Also, the rhinos that were killed were old. Since the rhinos were old, they might not have been able to fend for themselves anymore so killing the old ones were the best choice and because the hunters took two of these rhinos lives, they caused all the other rhinos on the reserve to now have protection. According to Jada F. Smith, a news article writer for the New York Times says “we found many troubling examples of funds’ either being diverted from their purpose or not being dedicated to conservation in the first place”(Smith). This is why we have the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. It makes sure that all the money from trophy hunting gets dedicated to a cause that helps protect endangered animals. Even if we didn’t have that organization and the hunters didn’t pay, then they wouldn’t be able to hunt the species they’re going after. Trophy hunting can help with many things concerning conservation and protection of an endangered species if it’s done the right
“Subsistence poachers are usually from poor communities driven by hunger and poverty” (Rhino Poaching FAQs 1). Usually these poachers are on foot and will shoot the rhino making it unable to move then cruelly they remove the horn with an axe leaving the rhino to bleed out and rot. Subsistence poachers usually make about $350 per horn (Down To The Last Living Rhino 21). The other type is the professional poacher who is a much bigger problem than the subsistence poacher. The professional poachers are highly organized and are funded by Asian syndicates (Rhino Poaching FAQs 1). They use well structured operations and high end technology methods like tranquilizers, veterinary drugs, helicopters, night vision scopes and high caliber weapons (Abbasi 1). Usually attacking in the night to be unseen, the professional poachers will shoot the rhino killing them in one shot, then remove the horns leaving the rest of the rhino's body. Another method they use that creates less commotion but is often more cruel is shooting the rhino with a tranquilizer dart. This makes the rhino unable to move, allowing them to chop off the horns and leave the rhino to bleed to death. The rhinos have no way to defend themselves from the poachers and no way to speak out for help; it’s our duty to step up and put a stop on poaching of
One day, Bobby and Joe had a basketball game. There team was called Avengers, there teammates were Adrien,Shannon, and taesean they were going vs the Gators they had Kevon,Trenton,Jayden,KJ, and Carlton.Bobby played point guard and Joe played shooting guard they was shooting around so they could warm up.They noticed that they was airbaling everyshot they was cursed they couldn’t even make a layup. They were the best players on the team the coach Ben was scared because his two best players were doing bad so he hoped that they would get better.
Also as mentioned in Radiolab, the problem animals are often older males that pick more fights and kill the younger species (“The Rhino Hunter”). The species that are although endangered, removing the specie that is more problematic will benefit the other species more. By targeting only the animals that are problematic, often past reproductive age, it benefits the younger species. For example, the older species are more known for picking fights with other fellow endangered species. This often results in catastrophic, messy fights that can kill or severely injure both of them. By hunting the animal that is more dangerous to a species, will benefit the species more, because it increases their survival without the problematic animal to cause harm. The wildlife conservation’s goal is to preserve wildlife, but if an animal is causing harm to the other animals, it is better for the other animals if the problematic animal were to be hunted, because the money gained would go toward saving the
The article is a contrast of the reasons people claim about trophy hunting’s effect on conservation and the reason that trophy hunting may not be effective, while following a trophy hunt in one of the most successful trophy hunting locations; Nyae Nyae, Namibia. The argument follows the idea that while no other solution has shown to be nearly as practical, trophy hunting has the problem that if done improperly will a very negative impact on the population of endangered species. This problem is further compound by the corruption seen in many of the attempts at trophy hunting often resulting in horrific acts of animal cruelty and massacre of epic proportions.
To begin with trophy hunting should not be allowed. The animals should be protected. In Junior Scholastic it say that “A million people have signed a petition asking Zimbabwe to stop issuing hunting permits to kill animals .” In the Associated Press passage it states that “ Only 20,000 lions are left in the wild.” Animals can’t protect themselves so humans should help protect them.
Poaching is becoming less and less popular with ivory and the elephant tusks and today the elephants are thriving in the 21st century. A man named Desire Dondego was a killing machine, but now helps the elephants live and thrive. Poachers can be hunted illegally or legally and if you hunt somewhere where it is illegal, they can get arrested and go to prison
