History does not change. Malcolm X once said, “I don’t even call it violence when it's in self defense; I call it intelligence. Today you constantly hear about justice for Michael Brown, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner, or Walter Scott just to name a few. In addition, you also may have heard in recent years about the number of mentally ill people that have killed large numbers of innocent people as well. Although I am not saying to shun a specific group of working class people, or even giving the mentally ill stricter restrictions. I believe there should be laws that are more strict that can combat the illegal use of firearms. With all that's been going on, I do not feel safe. So I support the second amendment right, but I also support safety.
We have had several of the worst mass shootings in our nation's history in quick succession over the past few years. Certain legal restrictions and acts from our government could have prevented numerous deaths. Common sense background checks and limitations to cartridge size and assault weapons would surely have saved many lives at the Las Vegas Massacre, but certain men and women claim that these restrictions violate their second amendment right. They claim that guns aren't the problem. That guns don't kill people, people kill people. So limiting access to devastating guns is just avoiding the problem. The Second Amendment right presumably violated by common sense gun control is “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (Second Amendment). The Second Amendment states that for the need of a well regulated militia to protect the security of the free state and the right for the people to keep and bear arms. Militias have been inactive for decades so in a sense the intent of the amendment is no longer relevant. Based on the 2nd Amendment, the Constitution is not still a valuable and viable document in modern America because it stands in the way of thorough background checks, training courses, and its vague wording and absolute intent make it inefficient to maintain peace and order and should be amended “To the People of the United
The Second Amendment gives average citizens the right to keep and bear arms. This has been an occurring issue for a while now but the recent school shooting by Adam Lanza in December of 2012, an unstable man who had access to assault weapons killed 26 people. Do you feel safe under The Second Amendment? Many people think these mass shootings could have been stopped if the government had never repealed the 1994 assault weapon ban or if we had universal background checks, keeping this ban active could have saved 26 adults and kids from their death. Not only do mass shooting occur too often but so do attacks that end in tragedy. Trayvon Martin is just one of many who was killed for being an average teen in the U.S. only his life was cut short because he decided to walk through a very unwelcoming neighborhood. Under the Second Amendment everyday citizens are not protected by the current gun control laws.
We all know our rights. Most of us do paid attend, to them in school. Do you know what is the Fourth Amendment is? If, you have forgotten, it is our right to privacy. Or from the Bill of Right “the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized (Fourth Amendment).” This can be from our homes, people, schools, and our cars. Why is this important to us? What is searches and seizures? What is privacy? What should we know about this amendment? Do we have an expectation
Death, violence, individual rights, crime, and cost are many words that arise when researching the controversial topic of gun control. This issue revolves around the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution and states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Is there a black and white answer or is there a need to find a middle ground? The foundational right must be preserved for an individual to own a gun. However, basic safety measures need to be in place for added protection and security of all Americans. To explore why this balance is the best option, it is necessary to look further into the
Every day in America an average of 93 are killed people due to gun violence. One of the biggest concerns today in American policy is gun control. This is a very controversial and complicated topic for both pro-gun and anti-gun supporters. American policy makers need to make it harder for the wrong people to obtain firearms and the fact that Second Amendment and gun control can co-exist. Mental illness constantly emerges in relation to mass shootings and shooters a like, as well as day to day homicides and suicides. America doesn’t necessarily have more crime then other developed countries the crime is just much more lethal. Right-wing Republicans constantly use the Second Amendment as shield to use firearms, the fact is the document is
Imagine going to school where instead of worrying about a grade you got on a test, you have to worry about your school being the next victim of a mass shooting. The Second Amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (United States Constitution), and yet instead of some people using their guns for self defense, they use it for mass shootings. Some argue that we already have gun control laws that don’t work, but others say if we had better gun laws than it would work. The debate on gun control started in November 22, 1963, when evidence in the assassination of president John F. Kennedy increased public awareness
The second amendment states that right to keep and bear arms. This law has been etched in the United States history for centuries thus creating the highly popularized debate whether they should be gun control laws. Members and advocates of the National Rifle Association would argue against gun control. Their aim is to shift the focus away from guns and their destructive potential but instead have people focus on the criminal and shift the argument to them being mentally incapable or suggest that there is a lack of security within schools (Henigan 2009). Voices of the NRA do make valid points, however it prevents them from seeing the bigger picture. We as a society have drifted from the crux of the issue, which is, when put simply, guns are dangerous. In America, guns are extremely dangerous. Anyone who chooses to Google “gun violence statistics” and find the official research study done by the National Institute of Justice it would show you that 15 of the 25 worst mass shootings in the last 50 years took place in America. It also vividly reminds us of how guns are easily obtained. The mass shootings that took place in America over the last
Attention Getter: During World War 2 Japanese Emperor Isoroku Yamamoto was quoted saying “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass.”
Individuals that are against the second amendment often argue that having ordinary citizens that carry guns and weapons make the environment unsafe. For a lot of those against the right to bear arms, it is hard to fathom that everyone owning a gun will have the best intentions in mind, at all times. The streets have become a battleground because danger can happen at any moment. Women can be viciously attacked and raped and innocent children can be kidnapped in daily. We cannot ignore the damage that these criminals are happening in society, and we must take actions to stop these horrors. On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza killed 26 people — including 20 first grade students at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. He didn't have any prior criminal history nor treatment for mental illness (Vogel, Sari Horwitz, and David A. Fahrenthold 1). Even though, a normal person could carry a gun to massacre first-grade students. How about the people have the criminal history or mental illness? They also could get the gun so easily because of the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is doomed to fail, however, because it isn't the criminal or the psychotic who produces the murder. There is no excuse or reason to kill a
The second amendment allows just about anyone to have a gun. Now a days there are people who reveal all the time they want to kill someone or themselves and no precautions are taken.guns are in the wrong hands all the time and innocent people die everyday from a careless person with a gun. Guns cause collateral damage Adults give their children guns to scare off animals sometimes thinking they removed the bullets and giving their children to play with and they accidentally shot one another. Everyone wants to be able to walk down the street and not having the constant thought in there head that someone other than a police officer having a gun
The ongoing debate about gun control i largely intertwines with the 2nd Amendment. In 1791, our founding fathers ratified the 2nd amendment to the constitution, allowing the “right to bear arms”. As law-abiding citizens, we should exercise our right to carry a gun responsibly. A large portion of the American population feels that any form of gun control enactment would infringe on their rights as a gun holder and eventually eliminate their privilege to possess a firearm. Which could possibly lead to challenging other civil liberties. However, due to the carnage left from mass killings, mentally disturbed attacks, assault weapons, and terrorist, stricter
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution was founded under the philosophy of protecting an individual’s liberties and freedoms. Liberties each person possess and that are guaranteed, not granted by government, framed with in the first ten amendments of the United States Constitution. Individuals have the natural right to defend their freedom, their families, communities and nation from immediate threat and government incursion. In the wake of present day events, mass shootings involving gun violence, supporters of gun control have called for stricter laws restricting legal firearm ownership. They believe there are no individual rights to own firearms, giving complete power to the national government. On the opposing side, gun
The delegates filled Independence Hall with raucous applause. The voiceover of a Fox New pundit began narrating the scene.
Our Second Amendment is near extinction because of a variety of different things.whether it be school shootings or just shootings in general. If you are a liberal you might be offended by this essay because i'm pro Second Amendment. There are many reasons for me to be pro Second Amendment.Like…
The right to free speech is one of the most precious rights an individual has as a citizen of the United States of America. This right gives people the opportunity to speak their mind and give their opinions of what they think should happen. These rights have been questioned and exercised throughout history, and have produced extremely positive things in a lot of cases. In modern times, people are always protesting something and in the colonial times it was the same. People wanted their voice to be heard and as long as it is done in a peaceful manner it is legal now, but it resulted in punishment for the colonists. People have never questioned whether or not these rights should exist, the questions involve whether there should be limits or not. No matter what side the authorities take, there are only two main points to deal with cyberstalking: free speech is an essential right, but it should not be meant to include hate speech.
