I watched the movie seven pounds with Will Smith starring as the main character. The movie presents a phenomenal message and enables the audience to decide what is their purpose in life, and how it could change if their life suddenly changed drastically. In the movie seven pounds Will Smith, the character Ben Thomas was in a tragic accident, he caused while texting and driving that took seven lives, one in particular so happen to be his wife. Furthermore Ben's perspective on life changed. Three ethics portrayed in the movie kindness, justice, and compassion which Ben blessed upon seven people he encountered to overcome his guilt. Although Ben ignored the laws of man, and risked getting into trouble, he realized the lives of others were important and they needed help. The first ethic kindness was shown, Ben decides to donate critical organs to people to change their lives. When a social worker illegally gives Ben contact information for an abused wife so Ben could help her. The …show more content…
Ben exemplified compassion in many cases, were he would sacrifice himself or his personal trails for someone else troubles. In reality this scene can compare with real life cases in the world today how compassion can be shared with people to impact others. In the movie Ben finds himself falling in love with a girl name Emily, who has an enlarged heart that he later gave his life for her to survive. Ben shared compassion with 6 other people, but given the most compassion to Emily. The third ethic Justice came towards the end of the movie, sadly Ben committed suicide at a great cost. Accepting, the guilt he faced physically, mentally, and emotionally after killing seven people, including his wife he love the most. Ben could not forgive himself, because he was the cause of lost lives. So he decided that he would find seven lives to change to deal with his agony for his
The author gives humanistic reasons on why people are compassionate. For example, a poor man was in the way of a mother and her baby so the mother scrambled around her purse to find change to give him. After the money was given to him, he stood there not knowing that taking the money and saying thank you was the end of that situation so he just stares at the baby, until the mother gets impatient and scrolls away. “Was it fear or compassion that motivated the gift?” In the passage she explains to the audience of a fresh bread shop and an old man. Entering
Examples of compassion run deep through the pages of this novel. It all begins with the acceptance of Leisel, the foster child. Hans and his wife Rosa, are expecting two children. To Rosa’s disappointment, not only is there only one child but a female named Lesell when she would have preferred a male. Though Rosa wants a male foster child, Hans as nice as he is devotes his life to take care of this girl with no other family. Even with struggles Hans Hubermann had putting food on his own family's plates, he took two unknown people into his life and showed them compassion through sacrifice, one was Liesel and a Jewish boy named Max. Hans couldn't afford to give his family the basic necessities, so he had to give up a lot more to care for two more people. A habit that Hans enjoyed, smoking, was something he had to give up in order to nurture Liesel's love for reading. Confirmation to his character of sacrifice was demonstrated when Hans said “Eight cigarettes per book… praise the lord for cigarettes.”(89-90). Hans was so relieved that he could take from himself and not put any extra strain or sacrifice of the family and give to Liesel. He found
Ben shows in both texts that instead of hurting others with “tart words”, that we should instead love everyone, and to make no enemies. Life is too short to be bitter all the time and create unneeded grudges between others. Life is to make the best of it, not to spend it alone.
Compassion allows humans to grow and have a hopeful future. In Hiroshima, Mr. Tanimoto showed compassion by urging people to get on a boat to safety. The victims were too weak to get on the boat. However, being selfless, Mr. Tanimoto helped the injured people get on it. This is significant because Mr. Tanimoto assisted the weak people to get on the boat to safety so they’d heal. Thus, through Mr. Tanimoto’s compassion the victims had a hope they’d survive. Furthermore,
Compassion has little to no boundries. In almost every great story there is a specific character or a group of characters that help the protagonist because they feel bad for them. Compassion is the most important aspect of a functioning society; therefore, Elie Wiesel’s Night, 12 Angry Men by Reginald Rose, and the generosity of spirit shown by the average citizen after the recent shooting in Las Vegas are all perfect examples.
Elie Wiesel talks about compassion because the lack of it caused the Holocaust. Compassion was needed during that event because no one felt for the Jews. If the Germans showed sincerity and empathy, the killing wouldn't have happened. Also, he talks about compassion because he wants the new generation to know about it. That is because the new generation will be the next generation of people in the world. So they must know to care for others during dark times. Finally, he talks about compassion because it is an important part of humanity. For us humans to live peacefully, we must show compassion.
The theme is that people should never give up hope. Cam was scared about Ben, but he never gave up on him. He never gave up on the unlikely task of riding Ugly, all for the sake of Ben.
Ben had to deal with a kinds of shame, he had his family ashamed of him and he was ashamed of himself. His whole family was disgraced the way he look and
Compassion is a valuable human trait because it helps build relationships, shows your willingness to help others, and eliminates evils like biases based on appearances or culture. When we show compassion to others, it contributes to making us feel great about what we did. Victor was willing to dedicate his life to avenge his family because of his compassion for them (177). Victor spent countless hours and sleepless nights on trying to find a way of bringing the dead back to life.
“Plus, he had an aunt on the outside. None of her neighbors knew she was Jewish, and she managed to help Ben without attracting suspicion.” (8). This example shows courage because, his aunt wanted to make sure she could put in an effort to help, even if it wasn’t much. In this time, being Jewish was something to be ashamed of, and if Ben’s aunt was caught she would be persecuted or
Benjamin was compassion. He thought about other people before him one example that Benjamin stated was “I gave the other two rolls to a woman and her child that came down the river in the boat.” While he could've ate all of the rolls he had he was kind to give his rolls away to a family, because he knew that the mom couldn’t afford to buy any food so he was nice to help them out.
During Ben's ophthalmology appointment Judah asks Ben If he can confide in him about a personal matter, confesses his infidelity and ask for direction. Ben replies by describing their two opposing moral pathways “It’s a fundamental difference in the way we view the world. You see it as harsh and empty of values and pitiless. And I couldn’t go on living if I didn’t feel it with all my heart a moral structure, with real meaning, and forgiveness, and a higher power, otherwise there’s no basis to live.” Even though Judah thinks of himself as a good moral person he believes it is a natural weakness in life. Albeit he feels remorse for the affair he doesn’t believe that outweighs the righteous things he has accomplished and he doesn’t feel that he
The film pointed out a lot of subject matter that greatly affects our lives and these are as follows being a Good Samaritan, determination in reaching our goals and dreams, expression of once self, making decisions in the path we take, the different perception of different individuals to a certain subject, our judgement in the life of others, the impact of different exercises/evaluation concerning a person’s multiple intelligence to how he copes with life, and so much more. The Good Samaritan in the film was depicted by Leigh Anne. She portrayed that even in her elite kind of living, she still managed to offer a home for a young man who she had not known except for the fact that she was a friend of her son SJ, although she was a
In the movie Tim Thomas who is really Ben is an all around good person who used bad qualities to help people in need. He impersonated his brother the real Tim Thomas to get close to a woman who was in need of a heart. He was dealing with the death of his wife, which I believe he blamed himself for the accident. He took the life of 6 other people in the car including his wife, but he survived. He wanted to repay his debt to society by donating his organs to those who needed them, and his ultimate sacrifice ws his heart he gave to Emily. His character changed, because of he used being an IRS agent to get close to the people he wanted to help.
Directed by Gabriele Muccino, Seven Pounds recounts Tim Thomas’ journey of redemption as he transforms the lives of seven strangers. In the 2008 drama film, Thomas carelessly texts while driving, causing a fatal car accident that took the lives of his fiancée and six others. He says, “In seven days, God created the world. And in seven seconds, I shattered mine.” The number seven is a recurring theme, but after further analyzing the film, its title alludes to The Merchant of Venice. In this Shakespearean play, when a loan goes unpaid, a moneylender is entitled to a pound of the debtor’s flesh as payment. To atone for the deaths in the tragic car crash, Thomas repays his debts, with his actual flesh, in the form of seven pounds worth of vital
