A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown.”-Tom Hanks. A hero is a person that helps or has helped someone with something that not a lot of people would do. Johnny can be considered a hero because he saved Ponyboy from being drowned by a Soc. Ponyboy can also be considered a hero because he helped the children in the church. Dally can be considered a hero because he helped Johnny and Ponyboy escape by giving them money and a gun. Yes, Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally can be considered heroes. One reason why Johnny can be considered a hero is because he saved Ponyboy from drowning. That is heroic because there were a lot of other Socs there and he risked getting jumped again. In addition, he was always there for Ponyboy when he needed it. That is heroic because that shows that he really cares about …show more content…
Ponyboy can also be considered a hero because he was gonna take the blame for Johnny killing the Soc. On page 57 it talks about Ponyboy escaping with Johnny when he could have left Johnny alone. That is heroic because he stayed with Johnny even when he was running from the police and he did not leave him alone. Dally can be considered a hero because he helped Johnny and Ponyboy get out of town by giving them money and for their safety he gave them a gun. In addition, he took the blame for something that two-bit did and got arrested to save two-bit from getting into trouble. And finally, he helped Johnny in the burning church by pulling him out to safety. That is heroic because he risked his life for Johnny’s.
People who disagree may claim that Ponyboy can not be considered a hero because he has gone to a rumble against the Socs. People may also claim that Johnny can't be considered a hero because he killed a Soc. And finally, they may claim that Dally can’t be a hero because he gave Ponyboy and Johnny a gun and helped them escape the
Hero. This word is mentioned frequently, but what makes a person a hero? Is heroism only saving the world from villains trying to enslave the human race, or can it be a small act of kindness? Can it be both? Yes, for a hero is someone who is brave, courageous and helps others in need. In the book The Outsiders, by S. E. Hinton, Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally can be described as heroes because they are not afraid to step up, and help people. Ponyboy is a hero because he rescued people and befriended a soc. Similarly Johnny is a hero because he used his heroic qualities to help people. Finally Dally is a hero because of his kind and heroic actions towards Johnny. All three of these Greasers, Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally show that heroism is not only a matter of saving the world, but it is also a matter of doing something for someone else.
As shown from the examples above, Darry is definitely a hero. He takes over as the parents fror his brothers Ponyboy and Sodapop, puts their needs before his own, and loves them unconditionally. Even though sometimes Daarry makes mistakes, and shows tough love, it is clear that he loves his brothers. He is exactly the definition of a hero. There is no other Greaser who shows heroism as much as
Another factor that proves that Ponyboy is a hero is his personality. In the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the definition of being a hero also includes their “fine qualities.” “’What in the world are you doing?’ Two-Bit's voice broke into my
The hero is someone who saves us from something bad. In The Outsiders By S.E Hinton the heros are Dally,Johnny, and Ponyboy. What happened in the book was in the beginning of the book Johnny was Dallyś favorite because Johnny was very nice and also johnny had died a hero because he saved kids from a burning church. Dally showed his anger about johnny dieng check for spelling and Ponyboy was sad but he didn't want to show his anger. At the end Dally dies because he robbed a store and the cops were looking and chasing after him but instead Dally decided to die and kill himself. Johnny,Dally, and Ponyboys are heroes because they did their best to save people.
First, Dally could be considered a hero. There are so many things he has done to prove he is a hero. Some quotes from the book can show ways he plays a hero in the book. “We think the towheaded kid will be okay. He burned his arm trying to get the other kid out.” said the teacher (pg.95). This happened after Dally went into the church to save Johnny. This quote is proof because it shows that Dally is willing to risk his life for
Dally was a hero for his actions and his help. After Johnny killed someone Ponyboy and Johnny went to go see Dally and asked “If he could help them hide so the police wouldn't find us.” Dally told them to “go to the abandoned church up on Jay Mountain.” Before they left he gave Pony a new shirt that was big, a gun to Johnny if he ever needed it, and some cash to buy supplies since they would half to stay there for a while. (Skipping to the part when the church was on fire) Dally also helped Johnny get out of the burning church when the church fell down and heard Johnny's screams. Dally risked his own life for Johnny’s. That's why he’s a
The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton, is a novel which tells the story of two rival gangs from Oklahoma in 1965. The rivalry is between Greasers who are much poorer than their counterparts from the west-side, the Socials. Ponyboy Curtis is the narrator of this story, and it is through his eyes that the events unfold. In this classic, there three characters who stood out from the rest: Darry Curtis, Dally Whinston and of course, Johnny Cade. But, are they heroes? To answer this question, one must first know what a hero is. In my opinion, a hero is a person who, in the face of danger, adversity or from a position of weakness, display courage and self-sacrifice for the greater good.
Some people might think that Ponyboy has the stereotype of a hero and not a greaser, because he, Johnny and Dally saved the kids at the burning church. “I swear, you three are the bravest kids I’ve seen in a long time.”(42), after saving the trapped kids Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally were called the bravest kids the school teacher has ever seen. Another reason that Ponyboy could be considered as a hero is that he tried to save Dally, because when he was in a police chase. Ponyboy tried to make the police not shoot Dally, he was tried trying his life for his friend but he could not complete. The final reason that Ponyboy is a hero is that he helped out Cherry (a girl soc who is a spy, rich, and snobby). What Ponyboy taught her is that the socs and the same it does not depend on the side they live
Everyone in their own unique ways is a hero, some are just more prominent compared to others. Personally, a hero is someone who stops thinking of themselves and ameliorate the world on a small or large scale. Dally was the most prestigious heroic character of the book, he was even described gallant by Johnny and Ponyboy. Immediately after Johnny and Ponyboy are faced with murder, Dallas was the first name that came to mind. As expected, Dally was just what they needed to stay hidden and out of trouble. "Dally," Johnny said with finality. "Dally'll get us outs here.". Similarly, even with a hurt arm, Dally came to the rescue during the rumble. He was extremely loyal to the crew and wanted to be apart of taking down the Soc’s. When Ponyboy was
”There are many reasons why Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally are heroes. Ponyboy is a hero because he went into a burning church and saved the children that were in the the church. Ponyboy is also a hero is because he is a survivor. Ponyboy is a hero because he is not afraid to step up. Ch.8 says a quote from johnny and it says I would, I would help her and
These boys were the last people, people suspected to be a hero. One way Ponyboy is a hero is because after the whole stuff with Johnny went down and Dally and Johnny ended up dieing . Also that him and his older brother Darry (the one who took care of him after his parents died) didn’t get along. One quote from the book that proves that they didn’t get along is. ”Nobody in my family had ever hit me.
Ponyboy might be considered a hero because,he had no hesitation getting out of the car and going into a burning church to save a few kids.He puts others before himself and he cares about other people. He went into a burning church knowing that he could get hurt or even die but he still went anyway ¨Dally was standing there, and when he saw me he screamed,¨For pete's sake, get outa there! That roofs gonna cave in any minute.Forget those blasted kids!¨I didn't pay any attention, although pieces of the old roof were falling to close for comfort.¨ You can see from reading this quote from the book that Ponyboy is considered a hero because he didn't care about what Dally was telling him,he only cared about getting those kids out of the burning church. This is just a few examples of why Ponyboy could be considered a hero.
Ponyboy is a hero to me. In one of the chapters, there is a burning church and kids are stuck inside.“Then pushed open the window and tossed out the nearest kid.”(79)Pony is a hero for obviously saving those kids in the church without any hesitation. He didn’t even think about himself or how he could get hurt, he just ran without even thinking. He helped those kids which were very brave of him. He also cared about his friends after the fire. I let his first remark slide by. "Are Johnny and Dally all right?"(81)
A hero is a person is a person that goes out of their own way for someone else. To me that definition of a hero makes Ponyboy a perfect hero. When the church was on fire he jumped out of the car and ran to check on the people standing by the church, when he heard the yelling coming from the church he did not hesitate to go in the burning church to save the little kids even though he could have easily died in that church. Ponyboy could always find ways to make Johnny feel better and help him even as he was being abused at home, I believe that he shows a lot of loyalty and selflessness in those times. I think that a hero should be liked by lots of people, if that's true then Ponyboy meets the criteria for a hero because even the socs liked him.
A hero can be from the past, from the present, from life, and from literature. The word ‘’hero’’ has many connotations and synonyms as well. However, not everyone gets enough credit for their heroic acts. Throughout unit 1 in springboard it discusses some of the heroic acts that certain characters did. For instance, in the story of the soldier that lost a leg, or the story of one of our presidents and how he became someone that people could look up to. In the story of “The drummer boy of Shiloh ‘’ the hero is a fourteen-year-old. A hero needs to have certain characteristics. For example, they need to be responsible and stay strong throughout their journey.
