When you have to make a quick decision on something serious, you go with what your emotions are at that time. For Ponyboy Curtis, his decision was not necessarily the best. He thought by running away after his older brother Darry hit him was the right choice at the time. Ponyboy should have stayed home even after Darry hit him. That does sound weird to even stay in the house after something like that happened. But i’ll explain why that was the right choice and so much would have not happened if he had stayed home. The first reason why Ponyboy should have stayed home even though Darry hit him is the murder that occurred early would not of happened. Because Ponyboy has ran away after that happened, he met Johnny and they went to the park. While
After running for a while they stopped in another parking lot with a fountain in the middle. While in the parking lot a blue mustang that belonged to the Socs that beat up Johnny a long time ago pulled up. They stepped out and started to insult Johnny and Ponyboy, Ponyboy snapped back and they grabbed him and shoved his head in the found as stated, “They grabbed my arm and twisted it behind my back, and shoved my face into the fountain. I fought, but the hand at the back of my neck was strong and I had to hold my breath. I’m dying, I thought, and wondered what was happening to Johnny.” This showed that those Socs were even going to kill them just because they talked back, but they were also drunk which also shows how dangerous drunk Socs are. To save Ponyboy Johnny had to kill the Soc and afterwards they both had to run out of town to avoid being arrested. This changed Ponyboys identity into a outlaw.
Ponyboy is in this state because he is devastated that his two friends, Johnny and Dally died. Johnny was a young nice kid who was the guinea pig of the group and Dally is this real tough boy that has been through a lot of hard times including prison. In the book, Ponyboy says “I had it. I stopped him. He was looking at me strangely. I had the knife. I killed Bob” (Hinton 165) and as the readers know, Ponyboy didn’t kill Bob. This shows that Ponyboy is really confused and is trying to think that Johnny isn’t dead. Then in the movie it didn’t show Ponyboy in this terrible mental state at all. Since the book mentioned Ponyboy in this state, the readers got to see that Ponyboy really cared about Johnny. Then with the movie the audience didn’t get to see how much Ponyboy cared about Johnny, so that could change their perspective on Ponyboy. Therefore this was a good thing that the book mentioned because it showed that Johnny was really important to Ponyboy and Ponyboy didn’t want to think that Johnny was
One moment in the book when Darry lashes out on Ponyboy is when he comes home late one night. A quote I found from that night in the novel is “He didn’t use to be like that… we used to get along okay… before Mom and Dad died. Now he just can’t stand me” (Pg. 51). When Ponyboy says “Now he just can’t stand me,” it shows that he thinks Darry hates him but in reality, Darry has high expectations for Ponyboy because he gets good grades and just wants to keep him safe because their parents died so Darry is the like the parent now. Another quote I found that also shows Ponyboy really doesn’t like Darry is “He thinks I’m a pain in the neck. He likes Soda-everybody likes Soda-but he can't stand me I bet he wishes he could stick me in a home somewhere, and he’d do it, too, if soda’s let him.” (pg. 42). Just so you know, this was after the movies when Two-bit, Johnny, Marcia, and Cherry were walking home. So, I think this quote is also about how Ponyboy thinks Darry doesn’t like him because he says things like he thinks if Soda weren’t alive, Darry would just leave him which shows Ponyboy isn’t very fond of Darry. This evidence shows that Ponyboy has the thought that Darry dislikes him. Therefore, Ponyboy hates him because of the way he is treated.
At the end of the book Ponyboy finally comes to terms with the deaths of Johnny and Dally, and he finally realizes that violence is not the answer when he makes up with Darry. Darry and Ponyboy are shouting at each other, and Ponyboy asks Sodapop to take his side. This causes Sodapop to rush out of the house, and Ponyboy and Darry chase after him. When they finally catch up Sodapop tells them he feels sick of being pulled apart by their fights. Ponyboy sympathizes with Sodapop as he says in the text: “Darry and I did play tug of war with him, with never a thought to how much it was hurting him.” Ponyboy suddenly understands what his fighting with Darry has done to Sodapop, and later in their conversation Ponyboy realizes why he never got along with Darry: “I saw that I had expected Darry to do all the understanding without even trying to
On page 8 it says,” Not unless you’re hurt like Johnny had been that day we found him. Compared to Johnny I wasn’t hurt at all.” This backs up Ponyboy living in a bad neighborhood. With this kind of neighborhood, Darry can’t protect him of every danger that comes his way. On page 131, it says ,’ The rumble was set for seven,...” This shouldn’t be the kind of Neighborhood Ponyboy should be living in. If Darry really cared about Ponyboy, he wouldn’t let Ponyboy be part of the rumble. Ponyboy will end up getting injured if he lives in this
One reason Ponyboy should not be living with his brothers is that he was running away from the police, charged with murder. Ponyboy was with a friend in the park when he gets jumped by Socs, the group of rich kids. When he is getting drowned in a fountain his friend kills the Soc. He then goes on the run where he has to hide in an abandoned church for a long time. Children should not be running away from the police. If he had a responsible parent, was with adults that looked after him and didn't let him get into trouble, it wouldn't have happened.
He made this choice because he knew that he was the one responsible for the fire. Which he started when he forgot to put out a lit cigarette. This caused Dally and Johnny to come in to help him save the little kids with Ponyboy. Johnny and Dally ended up getting injured when flaming boards fell on them. Johnny later died of his wounds while in the hospital and Dally survived. They also were called heroes in the newspaper for saving the little kids. Ponyboy had lost a very close friend which deeply hurt
In the novel “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy and his brothers struggle between fighting too much with them and the socs and this leads Ponyboy to runaway and hide in a abandoned church. The problem is that If Ponyboy doesn’t behave he will go to a system for boys and live over there instead of staying with his big brother Darry .What should happen is Ponyboy should stay with Darry because Darry always works and takes care of him and buys him food and helps Ponyboy with school and cares about his education. He also supports his brother Sodapop at the same time as he is with Ponyboy.
Darry’s choices have affected Pony boy by making him run away. Darry chooses to slap Ponyboy and sacred him, which made him run away. “Darry wheeled around and slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door,” “ I turned and ran down the street as fast as I could,” ( Hinton, 50). Darry slapped Ponyboy because he had been home late
One of the reasons Ponyboy should stay with Darry, is because, for example, when Darry said, “Pony, where have you been all this time?” he meant,”Pony, you had me scared to death.” Please be careful, because I couldn’t stand it if anything happened to you” (Hilton, 98). This shows, that Darry really has feelings for Ponyboy. Also, Darry probably was scared and felt responsible for what had happened. Another reason Pony should be with his brother is because, for example when, “I hate to leave you here by yourself, Ponyboy,”Darry said
Like he’s never hollering at me all the time the way Darry is, or threatening me as if I was six instead of fourteen”, Darry still loves and protects Ponboy in all situations. Darry is honourable because even though Ponyboy runs away from home he still forgave him and was very worried. When Ponyboy and Johnny had ran away because of the murder Johnny had committed, Darry didn’t have the slightest bit of anger and didn’t turn them in which is unlikely for Darry because he usually likes to obey the law and stays out of trouble. The lack of anger from Darry is evident through the letter that Soda pop had written to Pony boy, addressing how Darry was worried sick. “Darry hasn’t got the slightest notation where you are and it’s nearly killing him” page 70.
Ponyboy should be in the system. Don’t you think? This is proof that Ponyboy should be taken away from Darry and put in the system. He would be better off in the system. Darry has shown he’s not a responsible guardian because Ponyboy is not taken care of. In the book Ponyboy gets into trouble as he’s living with Darry that can get him killed. Something he does is he sneaks into a movie theater. Some people would say he’s better of with DArry, but he would be better off in the system. Ponyboy should be put in the system because he won’t go to jail or get diabetes.
Ponyboy end up by staying in the hospital’s hall in daze trying to figure out all these events, he was really in a bad condition and he lost his conscious as he was calling for his two brothers all the time. When Pony wake up from his unconscious, he asked if he called for Darry while he was yelling, and then Soda assure him that he did.
He loves them, he is happy, so why make him move? Even though they have their differences sometimes, that does not mean they do not love each other. All families fight sometimes. Not only does he love his brothers, but they love him even more. He needs them to help him with what he is going through. Losing somebody is not easy to get over and his brothers could help him through that. Ponyboy could get mistreated by going to foster care too. I have listed all my reasons and my last question for you is, do you think Pony should be put in foster care after all
Ponyboy should stay with Darry because he should be with his family. “Listen, kiddo, when Darry hollers
