I think Congress shouldn’t make students join the military or public service after high school if they don’t want to. They should not make it mandatory to join after high school because they might want to go to college. If you think Congress shouldn’t make students join the military after high school, listen to this. Congress is trying to pass a law saying that it’s mandatory that students do 1 year of military or public service. Never in the history of our nation has there ever been a mandatory military service requirement and I have to ask why now. Students should have the right to say no, many people volunteer to join and risk their lives. People who don’t want to join won’t do as well as people who wanted to join. Service in the military should be a choice.
Students and their families invest a great deal of money and time while preparing for the transition from high school to college. Many students start to prepare for a future career in high school allowing them to have their college career planned out. Students who work hard have plans after high school and probably don’t want to join the military or, if mandated by Congress, would feel pushed in a direction that they did not want to pursue. Students work hard in high school and plan on doing something in college but they would be forced to miss a year. If all graduating high school students went into the military instead of going straight to college, there probably won’t be any freshman classes as it is today. They
No person in the world should be forced to have to go to the military. It should be his or her decision to fight on behalf of their country. They should not be forced to go because, they are not motivated, are too young, and are leaving their lives behind. When they are forced to go to the military they are probably not motivated towards it.
You as the parent know you cannot afford to send all the children to college. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to secure your children's future? If it were a requirement for men and women to join a branch of the Armed Forces upon graduating from high school, their dreams could become reality! Young people could receive training and money to go to college and fulfill those dreams. If the draft were reinstated there would be more troops to support the current crisis in Iraq. There would also be less turn around of the same troops redeploying to remote parts of the world. Many soldiers are gone from their families for a year, only to return to remote parts of the world after being home for a few months.
Less than one percent of all Americans are enlisted in the military. An even smaller percentage of high school students are enlisted. Students are thought to be incompetent, and not mature enough to decide on enlisting in the military. However, students should be allowed to join the military. The military offers many benefits students can use to help their future. The protection of our country is not overlooked for recruits; they are awarded many personal benefits as well. Tuition assistance, job training, and many benefits that help prepare recruits for occupations while enlisted. Not only are students getting great benefits, but they are also in a small group of professional workers.

For some people that have a reason they do not want to go to college right out of high school is because they may be tired of going school. When people look at the economy today, it is tough to get a job that they would want to make a career of without some kind of college credits or even a degree. That is one thing that the military can offer to anyone that does not necessarily want to take that destination in their life. First, they will go to the branch of their choice and attend their boot camp and learning the foundation of the basic knowledge recruits will need to know. Recruits then go to a school, also called A school, but it is a lot faster than taking the time you would to go to college. It is very similar to fast track classes they offer at college except you will go to school for about a month, learning everything you will need to know about your selected job. Once the recruits graduate from A-School it is time for them to deploy to their first duty station and that is where they begin their career. When the service members reach the end of their contract to the military it is the members decision on whether or not they will extend that contract and continue their work for the military, or end their military career and start back
With an increase in national service that would also increase in a need for civilian service. And with that rise to balance out ratio of civilian service to national service it should be every person upon graduation should be forced to choose one or the other, civilian service, or national service. So the question is not if you think civilian service should be required or not but the question of, upon graduation which would you rather choose? It’s a serious matter that I think should be addressed to the general public. Or instead of volunteering the government should bring the draft back into effect.
You’re sitting in class doing your work when all of a sudden a man in camouflage walks in. He starts a presentation and tries to persuade you and your classmates to join the military. Some of your classmates actually start to consider it because they don’t want to attend college. Two questions cross your mind; should they really consider going to the military over college? Or, more importantly; should the military recruit high school students? As a high school student, I don’t think students should consider going to the military over college. The military also shouldn’t be able to recruit high school students. Military recruiters usually say anything to persuade students to want to join the military. So, they make everything seem like its peaches and cream and mention everything except combat.
The topic of mandatory national service has been around for years now, and there will always be arguments on whether it should be enforced or not. Some may say that it takes away our freedom, but is it not what gives us freedom in the first place? The United States’ military, national service, as well as community service is based on volunteers. That is what makes this country great, but there are less volunteers as years go by. Crime increases, streets are not safe anymore, Americans are oblivious to what is happening around the world. There are so many opportunities to give back to the country, yet, not many care. Today’s generation is based on social trends, and self-gratification. There is also the fact that many young people do not know what to do with their life after high school, some continue to college or focus on work, others do not work nor study. Therefore, all young men and women should be required to give two years to national service because it can help solve problems as well as build the community back together.
High School graduation day is an unforgettable time that is savored in memories for one’s entire life. That day marks the transition from boy to man, girl to woman, and ultimately, student to adult. Friends split paths, families say goodbye, and relationships end, but for every door that closes, a new one opens. The way I look at it, is that there are two options: join the labor force straight out of the gates or attend college to earn a higher-level of education. The latter is the more preferable way because it gives the worker a chance to earn a greater sum of money. For some, attending a well-known university is not a feasible option because of the ludicrous pricing of tuition. The majority of people do not want to start their new life with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, so they choose not to attend. The government should implicate public funding for college education by cutting back spending on federal penitentiaries because it would increase the amount of white-collar workers and trim the amount of debt a college student would have to pay back.
How would you feel if your country made you serve in the military for two years? In some countries as soon as any young person turns eighteen they are required to serve in the military. It does not matter what their gender is. They could be female or male and the rules still apply. I completely disagree with any mandatory service in the armed forces. Some citizens may not like their country. They may not believe in fighting. No matter what juveniles should be able to choose how to live their life. One reason why I disagree with mandatory service is because some people may not like their country.
First, I think that there should not be a mandatory military service here because some people may not want to. The military can not obligate people to serve in the military. People have rights here to choose whether or not they
The transition of soldier’s who serve in our Nation’s honorable military to civilian life can be either a neutral departure, positive or negative experience for the soldier being discharged, as many are unskilled outside of their prior assigned specific military job, however, because of this many decide to attend college to discover more opportunities life has to offer. “Today at many major four-year colleges and universities, there are at least 100 or 200 military service members
Most people have, at one point or another, considered what they were going to do with their lives. Whether a person would like to become an activist, an artisan or a business professional, the military has something for everyone. Finding a path in life is often filled with uncertainty and procrastination. The United States military is a path in itself, should one wish to retire from it; however, should a person wish to make their own path, there are benefits for that as well that can remove all doubt and curb procrastination. Due to these many benefits, I believe that it should be mandatory for all adults to enlist for a minimum of twenty-four months.
a recent cohort of high school graduates from the State of Texas in 2002, when the
Making military service mandatory sound like it would be a good idea. This can give discipline, makes stronger citizens, but the reality is doing this takes away freedom and goes against the very foundations of what America is supposed to be. Mandatory military service should not be required for American citizens.
