Siddhartha Gautama was the first historical Buddha. He was born in Lumbini Nepal, during the 5th century BCE. Mahayana Buddhism started spreading in the 3rd century BCE. Over the years, it has grown to be the fourth largest religion in the world. Buddhism started off in Nepal, which is on the border of India. In 483 BCE, Buddha died at Kushinagar in India. Three months later, the first Buddhist council gathers. In 65 CE, Liu Ying sponsors Buddhism in China. This becomes the first recorded case of Buddhist practice in China. In the 4th century CE, Buddhism makes an entry in the country of Korea. In the 5th Century CE, Buddhism is promoted by the Funan kingdom in Cambodia. Burma, Indonesia and Sri Lanka also have excepted Buddhist beliefs
