Buck, a dog from california, is stolen away to the cold and unforgiving wilds of the Klondike. Buck moves from owner to owner throughout the book as he serves as a sled dog shuttling people from place to place. Buck learns the lessons of growing up and being able to take charge of one’s destiny. Cummulating in him joining up with a wolfpack and finally answering the call of the wild.
The Call of the Wild, on the surface, is a story about Buck, a four- year old dog that is part Shepherd and part St. Bernard. More importantly, it is a naturalistic tale about the survival of the fittest in nature. Throughout the novel, Buck proves that he is fit and can endure the law of the club, the law of the fang, and the laws of nature.
I believe that it was very biased and cruel when Buck was taken away and sold. He was basically kidnapped and taken to be a sled dog. I also think that he was a quick learner and I am not sure if he likes it there. An example of his quick learning skills is when he had to bury himself in the snow so he wouldn’t be cold at night, which he observed from the other dogs. The best place for Buck, though, would be back home. That is where he belongs even though he does do a good job as a sled dog, he doesn’t deserve to be out in the cold. When he was a house dog, he was a king and he enjoyed it. He also had a nice time doing whatever he pleased there. He was very much loved, happy, and healthy. Buck was also well behaved and loyal to his owners.
I liked chapter 7 of Call of the wild because,Buck starts to act like a wolf. And Buck is strong as could be. Plus Buck is a very smart animal for a dog. Also I think Buck is a very great dog so far that I have read about him. And that Buck is learning how to be a wolf like he always wanted to be.
In the Call of The Wild a dog named Buck goes through a few owners before joining a wolf pack. The theme in The Call of The Wild is the way you treat animals is the way they will react to you because Buck’s owners treated him differently therefore he responded to them differently.
In the novel Call of the Wild, Buck is a domesticated dog at Judge Miller's house in Santa Clara Valley, California. Buck lived in a large spacious grounds filled with orchards and gardens. Buck was Judges Miller's companion, he took his daughters on walks and hunts with his son’s, he considered himself to be superior than the other dogs living at the house. He was a large built dog, a mix of St. Bernard and Scotch Shepherd, and weighs 140 pounds. During this time period, gold has been discovered in the Yukon and Alaska, there has been big demands for strong built dogs to pull sleds up to the arctic. Manuel, a gardener at Judge Miller's estate has gambling issues and is in need for money, and with the demand for sled dogs for the arctic, he manages to kidnap Buck and sell him to a saloon-keeper and is transported to the north on train. What Buck does not know is what lies ahead of him in this journey, it's the beginning of Buck's survival.
Call of the wild was a very good book. I like how the book described how Buck had changed over the course of the book. I don’t like how Buck always was getting beat in the story. I also like how Buck took lead of the pack when he killed Spitz. It was sad when John Thornton died at the end.
In the novel “Call of the Wild” by Jack London, Buck is the main character. Buck is a strong half St. Bernard and half sheepdog. He was living a comfortable life with his owner Judge Miller in Santa Clara Valley, California but sadly this all came to an end when one of the Judge's servants steals Buck and sells him. Because gold was discovered in the north large dogs like Buck have become suddenly very valuable and are useful to pull heavy sleds. After traveling on boat and train for many days, Buck discovers that he is in the North. Buck does not adapt easily to the situation but eventually conforms and learns how to pull a dog sled, how to burrow into a hole in the snow, how to survive hunger pains, and how to rely on his native intelligence
In The Call of the Wild, one theme could be that only the strongest survive, Buck goes through significant changes in his life and has to learn very quickly how to adapt in order to survive. The connection between this theme and natural selection is that if you are not able to adapt or suited for a certain task, you will fail. If Buck had not adapted and learned how to a sled dog, he would have most likely of died. When it says "only the strongest survive" it means that if you are not prepared or are weak, you will die first. In natural selection, when disasters happen or things in the world change, only the strongest, smartest, and quickest to adapt will survive. Bucks life changed very rapidly, but he was able to adapt very quickly to his
The move from Santa Clara Valley, California, to the Yukon is not to much for the resilient, Buck. After being kidnapped by one of Judge Miller’s hired hands, Buck makes the the journey to the Yukon and learns very important lessons. One included when to obey a master’s command. Buck takes charge of his situation after the death of his leader by showing Perrault and Francois that he knows how to take charge of a dogsled even if he had never been placed in that position before that moment. Buck’s ability to adapt to his surroundings is fun to read. Buck really comes into character after he starts to let loose of all his ways from his past living at Judge Miller’s house. Buck gets into fights with the other dogs on his dogsled team because
While reading The Call of the Wild, I noticed that Buck’s experience with all of his handlers and caregivers impacted him by being kind to others. Buck was willing and open to being kind and helping humans as well as dogs. Buck was able to help by either showing emotions or just by helping them in a physical way.
The story line set during the Yukon Klondike Gold Rush, at this people are searching for big and strong dogs like Buck. In the Call of Wild Buck goes through a lot of changes. He goes from being a domestic dog who is fed and taken care of to becoming a dog of the wild who has to adapt and learn how to survive. He was so used to being in charge where he was that he expect to be in charge at all time.He soon realizes when he gets to camp that all changes.
In the Call of the wild, Buck is a very fulfilled a savage type of personality. As the story went on you would continually learn that he is determined ,and has a good mindset. This shows others that he is a very delighted, also Buck has this inner beast. These two traits blinds him from the fact of him knowing that he is being sold.
He ties him to a sign while Miguel picks up some supplies. Buck is Dognapped and taken on a train to a dog sled camp. He is a pampered dog with little to no skill of survival and is weak from the freezing temperatures. As he grows more accustomed to the location he encounters brutal and violent alpha dogs. Most animals want to be the best
In The Call of the Wild by Jack London men have an important role in this story and have a lasting impact on the dogs that they meet. Many of the men who have passed in and out of Buck's life have played a crucial part in shaping Buck and changing him into the wild dog he has now become. In the beginning of the novel when we are introduced to Judge Miller, we get a glimpse of Buck's lavish life in the South. Buck later describes his relationship with the Judge as no more than a friendship. Buck soon discovers what real love is really like by the end of the novel. One day, Buck is snatched by Manuel who sells him in order to quickly make some money. Buck is sent off to a site where he is beaten by a man in a red sweater who ultimately puts
